      @Claudia Macias I've lived here 20 years, you'll be fine. Especially in a place like Burlington which is slightly more diverse than the rest of the state. People don't use the term "flatlander" maliciously, it's kind of a joke tbh. The only place I'd consider avoiding is Rutland area since the heroin epidemic is still big over there (and some of the poor rural places in general). It's unfortunate but as the video said, violent crime is almost non-existent so no need to worry about that, just some druggies.

    Just moved away from Vermont (I moved there for school in 2020, then back to Washington a month ago). I can definitely back up what others are saying: Vermont has a shortage of decent, available homes right now, and people moving from out of state or rich people buying up houses for winter homes aren't helping. An interesting note though: Vermont was very affordable for me, and rent seemed very cheap everywhere, but that's because I'm from Seattle. I wouldn't be able to get an apartment here for what my apartment in southern VT was. However, wages are also more where I am, and so even though it might be cheap for you to move out of state, it isn't cheap for native Vermonters.
    Personally, I couldn't stand the cold or isolation. But that's my personal thing.

    Yes please, move to Vermont! Our housing crisis would love to be exacerbated by out of staters driving up housing prices (and sucking up all the overpriced apartments) so natives have to continue to leave the state. Ahh yes, everyone is moving to Vermont. No wonder the population is decreasing every year. Vermont features a high cost of living, high taxes, high winter costs, and limited job opportunities, not to mention an egregiously overbearing vehicle inspection that occurs yearly which if you're broke you are flat out screwed. This state I once called home for so long is a beautiful place to visit but a horrendous place to live and this video creator clearly does not understand the underlying problems with trying to make a life work in it. This video comes off as stock footage and wikipedia statistics rather than a firsthand account of life in Vermont.
    Now this won't be the case for everyone, especially if you managed to land what few career jobs there are or are retiring. However, if this is not you, then please save yourself from the trouble. All of the positives of Vermont will amount to absolutely nothing unless you're well enough off. Please heed my warning.

    The only reason for the influx in 2020 was that Vermont had the highest vaccination rate and lowest covid infections. Vermont is anything but affordable, let alone buying local which is much more expensive. State tax, housing crisis, and laughable to say that most Vermonters are making "more than enough" to sustain living here. In fact, all I keep reading about in the local articles is the struggle to attract and retain young people and families and the crisis it poses for the retired and aging population (oldest state here) as in median age. From someone who lives in this god forsaken hell. Don’t do it. Unless you like driving in 10 feet of snow, 2 days of summer, every paved road is filled with potholes and every other road is dirt. Cool thing is you get to smoke weed. Snowboarding is a plus as well. Other than that nothing good to do here.

    Having lived here for half a decade, I can say that Vermont is a lot more complicated than this video makes it seem. VT is crazy expensive to try to buy a home or rent an apartment right now. When I was living in St. Albans (City, not Town - although the Bay is nice when it’s not overrun with gnats), my rent was on par with NYC prices. No hyperbole.
    The jobs are also not so lucrative on average, which makes the 802 even more cost-prohibitive.
    Lovely place, but certainly not everybody’s cup of tea.

    • @_KITE
      @_KITE Рік тому +2

      @@calvinjohn26 Winters are generally cold, but it really varies year to year. It tends to fall below zero in some parts of the state. I remember experiencing blizzards in Vermont; six years ago, for example, the visibility got so low that I struggled to see my own hands. However, this year, hardly any snow has fallen by comparison. The weather is spring-like, by our standards.
      As for how much a chef can make, I am not sure. I think it depends on where you work and what you cook. I do not know much about the business side of the culinary world, but I would imagine that a very skilled chef, the sort that does catering for events and such, would make more than a chef at a diner with low foot-traffic.

They both have about the same population, 10,000 or less.. Anyone 21 or older may posses 1 oz & grow a small amount of pot plants. In true VT Legislative fashion, there are still arguments and no resolution to allow the legal purchase of pot. You can be charged if you buy it illegally. Now does that make any sense????? With VT vying with Alaska for top weed consumption in the US, people moving here may be caught up in the ongoing VT stoner apocalypse. Many are walking and DRIVING around intoxicated on weed and/or alcohol. They may be unable to find their way to the border if they want to leave, provided they don't kill someone first. This goes double for the large number of boozers AND those who consume both substances. Let's not even talk about the ongoing opioid epidemic...
