I Might Regret This. |THE POWER POST|

- Like my title says, did i just figure it out?!. I see peoples wood shops in videos and pictures, and I've always wonder how they ran the power to their larger tools more central in their shops. No one ever talks about it! Except for the people who ran conduit through their floors when building their shops, and although I thought about that when building my shop at the time I had no clue where my tools would ultimately end up. Well I made a leap in this video, and came up with a plan to figure out what worked best for me, and these power columns made the most sense for me. Along with helping eliminate the use of extension cords and making it more convenient to power these tools up, it also will give me a good way to mount the vertical 6" ducting for the dust collector I'll be installing (coming real soon!)
Most of this was built out of materials I already had laying around in my shop. ie 4x4 posts, osb, receptacles, and boxes, 3/4' plywood.
Anyways I hope this helped, and or gave you some ideas or inspiration.

Thanks for watching everyone! These power columns were a great addition to my shop.
I'm planning exactly this. I haven't poured the concrete in my shop yet. I was thinking of burying conduit in the concrete, but doing a faux post and dropping a line allows for flexibility down the road.
I was in he same boat when I built this shop, but I knew things would change once I started getting my equipment and I couldn’t commit to it. These columns have been great, and if things change down the road they are by no means permanent. I’m glad I built these.👍🏻 Thanks for watching and commenting. Let me know how your shop turns out. 🤘🏻
First of all, your solution was successful, but I think it is incomplete.
What I understood when I first read the video title; he will also place the battery stations of the rechargeable tools on the columns.🤨
After watching the video, I was wondering why you didn't put the pipe inside the column. 🤔
Instead of 3x3, you could put the 2x4 in the corners and run the pipe in the middle.
Maybe the columns would get 2 inches larger, but the vertical downpipes would disappear.
That way you could put pipe in thickness and planner.
Anyway, thanks for sharing, you have given a different idea. 🙂
Putting the pipe in the columns was a thought I had, but it wouldn’t be worth it, too many variables for little to no payout.
I'm binging your stuff- you rule, and you can say you have girthy power columns.
Heck ya! Theses power columns were a solid choice, and they worked out great for supporting my dust collection duct.
Hey, are you in Ohio? My shop collapsed in 2020 and I built a new shop, I had the same issue in my old shop so I made conduit runs where my tools would be placed. I really love not having to step over cords. Also, I made my my plugs fit below my tools so nothing interferes when using my my tablesaw. I like your shop and subscribed. Have a great day!
Nope, I’m in Washington. I’m definitely glad I built these, I did the same thing with my table saw receptacle and placed it below the work surface. Thanks for watching and commenting. 🤘🏻
Nice build! I sort of inclined to suggest covering the OSB isn't necessary and is a waste - but I'm quite sure my wife would disagree so, BRILLIANT!
I know what you mean, like I mentioned my original plan was just to paint them, but I have a plan on how I want my shop to look when it’s finished.
Looks awesome! After putting in all that labor, why not at least use a 2-gang receptacle or put in boxes on more than one side so you always have a spare outlet.
Thank you. It definitely crossed my mind, and could still happen. At the time I was just focusing on taking care of the tools in need. As things evolve that is a very easy fix that would only take a couple min. Thanks for watching and commenting. 🤘🏻
Great vid man! Girthy is definitely a word.
Thanks dude!
I wouldn’t know anything about that. 🤣
Slightly (ok, severely) over done. Looks good.
Thank you? 😂😂
You just made my day! Moved my old General table saw to rebuilt shop and was looking at a 220 dropdown reel, but your idea of the columns is a better way to go. Thanks for the idea and love how your shop is turning out.
I'm so glad you liked it! I had been sitting on this idea for awhile, and finally did it. I wish I would have built them sooner. Thank you for watching, and taking the time to comment.
Nice vid man... 👊
Thanks buddy!
Like what you did
Thank you, and thanks for watching and commenting. 🤘🏻
AWESOME!
Thank you Gregory. 🤘🏻
