Dunno. For me it bounces between a decent little comedy and a bit of a drag during some scenes. Siobhan Finneran does an absolutely brilliant job playing Janice. No surprise. The woman is excellent in so many things she has done.

'Cloppa Castle', was one of many lunchtime TV shows on ITV for us kids in the 70's who went home for lunch from school. Like many others, it was well remembered and has, for the most part, stood the test of time. There's many others, of course, such as, 'Chorlton and the Wheelies', 'Jamie and the Magic Torch', 'Issi Noho', 'The Adventures of Rupert Bear', 'Paper Play', 'A Handful of Songs', and a few more besides. These were all 10 minutes in length and shown at 12 noon. They were followed by one of 5 longer 20 minute shows that included, 'Rainbow', 'Mr. Trimble', 'Hickory House', and, 'Pipkins.' This was usually followed by a show for grown-ups between 12.30 and 1pm, 'Paint Along with Nancy', being one I particularly remember. Then, once 1 o'clock arrived and you heard the theme tune to, 'News at One', you knew it was time to head off back to school!

What about 'Doctor Terrible's House of Horrible'? A Horror Comedy Staring Steeve Cogan, playing a kind of Crypt Keeper role, as well as Staring In the Episodes themselves. Homages a lot of old British Horror Movies (think Hammer or Amicus).
Also, Early Doors with Craig Cash, just because no one ever seems to mention it.

Early Doors is brilliant. I had both series on DVD after watching it when it first came out. A mate of mine is a fan too and he went to a stage show version of it they did a couple of years ago. I wish I was there!
It came out around the same time as Catterick with Reeves & Mortimer, which was also fantastic. BBC3 was a really good proving ground, at that time, for several very funny, underrated comedies that weren't necessarily mainstream. Monkey Dust is another one that was brilliant but definitely not one you could show at 7pm on BBC 1...

How about a show called Soap. It is a sitcom that spoofed soap operas from the late 70's to early 80's much like Police Squad makes fun of police shows of the time. It starred a young Billy Crystal and had Richard Mulligan in it. It was very funny and very well made.

Excellent - Fawlty Towers, low hanging fruit I know but this is simply a classic. Couldn’t make it nowadays mind.
Underrated - Stella, Brilliant show especially for those in Wales, filmed around where I live so probably why it holds a special place. Always overshadowed by Gavin & Stacey though.

I remember watching that Marblehead Manor, the one bit of it I particularly remember is there was a party and the butler was announcing the guests. At one point an Indian man enters and his name is Singh and the butler introduces him as Mister Singe. The Indian man corrects him saying “no, no, Singh, Singh”. Then the butler starts singing “Introducing Mister Singe”. A really silly bit but it has stuck in my head for over 30 years.

Here's a suggestion for a forgotten series: Brothers & Sisters. Not the 2006 American series starring Calista Flockhart and Sally Field, but the BBC show of the same name that aired a decade earlier.
Series One aired as part of BBC2's late night programming block The A Force, then it was commissioned for a second standalone series in 1998. It was set in and around a baptist church, and the storylines were centred around various scandals within the church community. It starred Joseph Marcel (Geoffrey from The Fresh Prince of Bel Air), Mona Hammond, and Patti Boulaye. Although the show is long forgotten, some of the actors went on to become big names including David Harewood, Stephen Graham, and David Oyelowo.

Another forgotten one is 'No Problem'. Aired on Channel Four, it revolves around five young black siblings whose parents have gone to Jamaica for several weeks, so they have to fend for themselves, resulting in them getting into various scrapes and brushed with the law. It received some criticism for emphasis on comedy rather than racial issues. However, it is fondly remembered by those who watched it.
Yet another forgotten gem is ITV's 'The Boy Who Won The Pools'. As its name suggests, it revolves around a young lad who wins the jackpot on the football pools and has a grand old time with his pals which includes buying a mansion and a Ferrari!

Would have been a kid when Lavender Castle was on bit probably too busy seeing how much trouble my older cousin and I could get into to notice it (it was the 90s, getting into trouble was a hobby in those days)
Good. Budgie. Adam Faith and Ian Cuthbertson. Got into it during lockdown. Now Budgie is kind of lovable...well more lovable than Jim in Up the Elephant imho.
Bad. Oh god so damn many to choose from but I'd have to punt for Surgical Spirit. How in the nameof sanity it got 7 seasons is well beyond me.

One utterly brilliant series to include is Channel Four's 'Prospects'. Think of Minder but with two Terry's as best friends and no Arthur. It starred Brian Bovell and the late Gary Olsen as a couple of East End geezers forever looking for their big break. The opening title song was great also. Only a dozen episodes were made. ITV sadly dropped the idea of taking the series on and developing it into a longer running series.

I vaguely remember seeing Lavender Castle but it has been so long I had forgotten about it. Here are some more shows from the USA that recently came back into my mind that I had forgot about:
    California Dreams (September 12, 1992 - December 14, 1996)
    USA High (August 4, 1997 - June 10, 1999)
Hangin' With Mr Cooper (September 22, 1992 - August 30, 1997) - I don't remember much about it as I haven't seen it since the 90s but I remember liking it at the time.
My Wife and Kids (March 28, 2001 - May 17, 2005) - I haven't seen this in years but again, I remember liking it.
One more I liked which might be underrated is Early Edition (September 28, 1996 -May 27, 2000). It is about a man in Chicago who gets the Chicago Sun-Times newspaper the day before it is actually published and he uses what he reads in the paper to prevent terrible events mentioned in the paper from happening.

Twiss was kidnapped by the IRA and left for dead in a field with a bomb. A bomb disposal robot is sent in. You see it going painfully into action. About to reach the bomb...then it cuts to the other characters all standing around the bomb controller nearby. And you hear an explosion. All are silent as the implications sink in. Twiss's best mate says 'see ya Twissy. One day.' The fact that scene stays with me after so long gives measure to the quality of it.

    Excellent
Victor and Hugo, Bunglers in Crime. A loose spin off from Duckula which itself was a loose spinoff from Danger Mouse. David Jason again lends his voice. Seemingly lesser rembered these days, but I’ve fond memories.
    Underrated/Forgotten
Monsters. ITV anthology horror show from slightly before my time, I discovered on a random DVD I picked up somewhere. Made during the folk horror period of fare like the excellent Children of the Stones. Listing this as underrated, as being an anthology of one off stories it is of course a bit uneven. Notably, Pauline Quirke has an early role, and she wasn’t even annoying.

Hi there. For what it’s worth, here’s my excellent, underrated and bad list.
Excellent. FRINGE. This is the best series I’ve ever watched of all time. The writing, production and acting is just perfect. You invest in the characters and it pays off. A lot of modern series makes their characters to dark and complex. Yes, they are complex but they are relatable, warm and human. You actually love them like a family. Walter, played by John Noble is the best fictional character ever created, and John brings him to life perfectly.
Underrated. Superman and Lois. Ok, my wife and I decided to watch this not expecting too much, how wrong we were. This is a great modern retelling of the superman story and Tyler Hoechlin is now my favourite Superman since Christopher Reeves. He embodies Clark and Superman perfectly. Yes it’s comic book stuff, but it’s made very well here. Mixing Superman’s dilemmas of finding balance between saving the world and being a husband and father.
Bad. Squid Game. I gave into the hype and decided to try and watch it. I made it almost to the end of the first episode, it’s pretty dire. I’ve no clue what was going on really and I just got very bored.
Anyway, that’s my round up. 😊

I remember Marblehead manor. The show was canceled, recast and they shot another pilot for another Network. And the second iteration the chauffeur was the main character.

If Marblehead Manor isn't meant for very small children than the clip suggests it might be the worst thing ever created by humans

I still don't think you've covered 'hyperdrive', I mentioned it a while ago and it seems to be largely forgetten. It was a mistep for Nick Frost and also had Miranda Hart, one of the least funny "comedians" to ever curse TV in it. Absolutely awful!

He did it in one of the science fiction show videos. I watched the first episode when it was on a sunday evening repeat. Wasn't able to record it due to a clash with other things and didn't have tv catch up back then. It had bad reviews but I thought well some things take a while to get going. Let's give it a chance. I switched off after fifteen mins. I've only ever given up on a show that quickly twice. The other being Sci Fi channels the outpost. After twenty mins. I thought with Hyperdrive any show that starts making jokes about alien genitals after ten mins is just desperate. And it was.

I wasnt that old when "clopper Castle " came out but as soon to be teenager I thought it was sh*te even then. I hated Jim Davidson at the time. probably because of chalky and nick nick stuff I think hes okay these days (am I just old?). never understood all the fuss about Weldon most of her stuff was rubbish. that said the casting of the "lovley Girls" to Quote Father Ted is good.
BTW I love your stuff and being a very much Manc of geordie desent where is your accent from ? its great!!

Rubbish, To the manor born, upper class snooty rubbish
Forgotten, British animated show called Stressed Eric, I thought it was pretty good late night bbc2 animation, shame it was pretty short lived.
Underrsted Early doors, written by Craig cash, he of the royal family fame, not as good as royal family but still funny, I'll admit I watched it at first because I fancied the bar maid Tanya but I got the dvds and realised it was awesome. Brilliant cast, script and John henshaw as the landlord is very good.

Totally agree! Love Cloppa Castle... Hate anything with Jim Davidson total 🐕 💩 Shite!.... on the forgotten front, totally loved Get Some In, a UK TV series about National Servicemen in 1955 UK.... Hilarious, dated yet funny. Featuring Robert Lindsey portraying an earlier incarnation of Ted -"Smith" soon to become Citzen Smith. Another long forgotten snapshot of a bygone era when comedy wasn't all PC bollocks.
