can you bring the thatchmaker lady to your shelter and interview her about your work? I think that would be an interesting video, as well as learning some about her history thatching.
The shed is beautiful. It looks like it will last for years, even given the salvage reeds. Your philosophy about food is the most reasonable I've encountered. Thank you!
Whoa, your framing and just general camera skills have gone through the roof mate, shiiiiiit 👍👍👍 Editing on point too sir. Presentation, again, bang, effin, on. 9:17 This shot 😊
For not being raised in the time your trying to portray in your building, it looks quit authentic and beautiful, very impressive. Keep up the good work, I'm enjoying your videos.
Julius that is a great effort in creating such an awesome roof, The thatcher lady should come and review it :), Dylan will be more than happy I should think , Smooth Gefixt !
I love the shots of you on the roof where you can tell the camera is mounted on a swaying tree. The music with piano, and stings goes so nicely with it.
A shed with a wicked haircut. Well done! Your hands musta taken a beating constantly touching the thatch materials, backseat youtuber says "Wear dem gloves".
Well done, that's an amazing roof, good idea to practice on the hut before the roundhouse, gives you an idea of what's coming up with the roundhouse, the food looks great and easy to make, keep doing what you're doing!
Another excellent demonstration, looking really great, warm and water proof. The Thatched Hut roof will be awesome I'm sure. Definitely missing our half hour sessions and Jaeger, hope all is well with you guys. Once more, all the best from here in West Australia
I've been vegan for nearly 11 years, and I am in full agreement with you on deer. I continue not eating meet as I live in a city in Asia and do not want to support factory farming and slaughterhouses, but about a year ago, my perspective on managing wildlife changed - my thought process was as follows: I met a woodsman in Germany who, amongst other things, had a quota of deer that he had to cull every week (as I remember, I think as part of his job, he had to cull at least 3 deer from the forest he managed weekly). He showed my the results from an experiment, a square, let's say an acre, of forest was fenced off completely to deer, and the in the surrounding area, deer were left to roam free. After x years, the fenced off area had much more tree growth and the surrounding area was slowly turning into a grassland and away from being a native forest. In the past, wolves would manage deer population in. Now if their population is unmanaged, it is not good for the forest. I am in favour of reintroducing natural predators, which includes humans.
I really love the heather. Not necessarily the look on its own (it looks like a really bad toupe, lol), but the way you did it, it looks SOLID, and I bet it's going to hold up to the rain really well... I guess we'll see! Excited to see you trying out these different materials, if nothing else. :-)
Another great one Julius. Looking forward to seeing you start on the roundhouse roof! The bushcraft course sounds awesome. A pity I'm not in Ireland. All the best.
I also would love to see that just because of the logistics. Harvest, baking, shape, placement of the clay itselfs. However they have tried to use only materials that iron age round house in Ireland would have used. So their list of materials is heather, reeds, thatch, other grasses.
The forest is there around, possibly wooden tiles could be better solution, readily available. We in Ukraine call such tiles "gont", and use it in Carpathian mountains for roofing even today.
The hammock is one of those portable cultural techniques that would be embraced anywhere. I can certainly imagine it in Medieval Europe - wonder when ships adopted it? The navy probably picked up the idea in the tropics.
Brilliant, one of the best YT channels. I've noticed all that Ivy strangling those Silver Birch, Ivy is parasitic and kills it's host tree, kill the Ivy before it kills the tree's.
Ok why did I look at your thumbnail and think I was looking at the Manger that Jesus was born in, 😆😆😆😆😆 Sorry guys but that's what I saw, still it worked as I'm now watching your video.
Greetings from the land Down under. Is the sod to be used in place of the moss on the round house? Will this layer be the anchor for the staples and also a sort of protection from sparks/embers from your fire? Would be a shame to see it all burn down after all of your hard work
I know this probably isn’t a great question, but in the interests of survival and sustainability, what do you do with the human waste? Human waste is a huge problem.
In the video info they have a link to a weekend of courses/classes/information on sustainable living called weekend in the hills. The address is - Slieve Aughty Centre, Kylebrack, Loughrea, Co. Galway So I assume they are near by.

Seconded!
Hopefully we can convince her;)

The sickle is a traditional hand tool for harvesting hands.
For not being raised in the time your trying to portray in your building, it looks quit authentic and beautiful, very impressive. Keep up the good work, I'm enjoying your videos.
I just love to see your stuff, so much effort and quality out in it! Excited for the roof!!
NOTHING is gonna come through that roof. Looks fantastic!
Great channel. Good to see someone is still able to build something using only natural materials.
Julius that is a great effort in creating such an awesome roof, The thatcher lady should come and review it :), Dylan will be more than happy I should think , Smooth Gefixt !

Hut looks great. You are certainly perfecting your Bronze age look with the beard and long hair. LOL Looks good too!

Great vid, in this year, you could try making roof tiles out of clay, that would be interesting
I also would love to see that just because of the logistics. Harvest, baking, shape, placement of the clay itselfs.

Parsley - awesome! Did you find it in the wild or store?))
Thatched Hut? I meant to say " Roundhouse". Either way looking great.
I know this probably isn’t a great question, but in the interests of survival and sustainability, what do you do with the human waste? Human waste is a huge problem.
This is such an amazing project! What region of Ireland is it in?
