Folksss! Sorry this was supposed to be uploaded last week already, but ran out of time with moving house and bushcraft course at the roundhouse. Ah well, the series will last a week longer now;) Enjoy! See the full series here: ua-cam.com/play/PL0g1kSwASIt1rJeYNvlYqGuzQ2TakjBan.html
Thank you so much. I only have internet and cancelled my tv service because it cost to much. So I appreciate these videos. They are educational and fun to watch.
I'm an archaeologist specialising in Iron Age settlement. These video's are a fantastic resource. We have always underestimated the quantity of materials and labour required and the level of detail presented in this build is very helpful. Thanks so much.
If there was anyone on UA-cam who deserves our Patreon money, it is these guys. Because these guys are some of the most honest, wholesome people I have ever seen. They deliver quality videos that display their true love of nature, leading by example. Very Smooth Gefixt!
Yes, they are total good guys by all appearances. Yet what is important is their astounding level of skill, focus, endurance, commitment, historical knowledge, and ability to produce the best videos.
It is very impressive, how much time and care you dedicate toward this project. With others seem to do builds for a day or half a year. Your roundhouse will outlive them all by year, because of the love and work you put into making it good. My favorite part in this video was Julius showing his cooking and crafting in the evening. 50 scollops in 60 secounds sound impressive.
You have both worked so hard from the very start.all your hard work and sweat....blood?....tears? is all coming together and you will have constructed an amazing house. you must be local heroes!!!
I'm excited to see the finished product and the resulting videos of improvements. Fear not! There is so much potential content even after the structure is complete!
My thoughts too, this slow burn series got me through lockdown and furlough. Perhaps interior furniture will be sleeping platforms and seating to test their woodworking skills followed by hurdle making for an enclosure. If we're not careful an iron age community could re-surface in Ireland.
Great episode. Still, the most amazing and incredible video on all of youtube is you two youtubers man-handling the stones for the foundation. Oh, and the donkey. My final words on my death bed will be, "Dang, those Dutch boys were awesome!". ;)
Wow does this bring back memories of a trip in 2014 over to Belfast Northern Ireland UK. I visited the museum there and got a chance to thatch with 3 other Irish men. 2 from the Uk and 1 from the Republic. That was a fun 2 hr bit of work and will never forget
Hello very interesting video, I am doing the journey of living in the forest alone, growing vegetables, raising fish, raising chickens.... living in harmony with beautiful nature
I knew that you built the bones of your roundhouse solid, but it's really impressive just how much mass that roof structure is supporting. It's also interesting (if not so fantastic) to see that the grass in your scraw is growing again. I'm sure it'll finish drying one day. :-)
hey guys just wanted to say thanks. im australia and going through the third wave of covid and your video really help just know that one we'll be able to go camping . aslo fire safty👍
I wish I could come and help! But I love everything you guys put out, beautiful, slow pace, and very relaxing to watch. Much love from the mountains of Tennessee, USA.
Thank you for sharing this. It really makes you appreciate the amount of skill and effort needed to build this. A village together makes even more sense when everyone else pitches in and helps
really love what you guys are doing here. just started watching you channel this week and these iron age roundhouse videos are the first recent ones i’ve seen. this is an impressive project. i’m glad you’re putting the time in and showing the world that green renewable housing can be brought back to the present again in a fun community based way.
Guys it's looking gorgeous, you've put so much effort into this series, I will be really sad when it's finished. But at the same time I can't wait until it's all the thatching is done and you have your first proper overnighter. I love how you've included local people and their years of knowledge throughout the series too, keep up the great work I so appreciate it 👍👍😁😁😁
It's physically painful to watch your content knowing I'll be stuck in my shitty indoor job that I hate, being miserable constantly. Working with your hands, working on something meaningful, being outdoors...it's such a different kind of work. I live for Bush craft during my precious time off. Nature can nurture. Cheers and thanks for the uploads. You inspire a lot of us to do more.
Love you guys, thanks for the video's. The round house roof is turning out fabulous, looks as if you've got the technique down to a science. I'm so proud of you both, and the way the energy is harnessed, is fanominal. Please as a peacock showing his feathers. Love that you are holding fast to the old ways, and yes I'm glad you're trying to remember to ware your gloves. Bye for now. Lol
Even after the roof is made I would like to see some Iron age furniture. Maybe a rack for drying herbs and skins. You guys have put way too much work into this not to do the inside proper. Cheers
i just recently discovered your channel and binge-watched nearly every video of yours. its so nice of you to share your skills and love of nature and craftmanship. Keep up the good stuff and greetings from germany!
considering how long it has taken you guys to get this far in building this structure, how long did it take back in the olden days? How many people would be working on a structure this size? was there a builders guild that was contracted to erect these shelters or did each family build their own?
There seems to be a lot of scrap reed on the ground. Is it a safe assumption that back in the day they used all those scraps to cover the floor of the roundhouse? 🤔
The roof is looking great! Just watch out for any dragons with big beefy arms, wouldn't wanna see it get burninated. The sad reality is that more than half the baby songbirds born each year (including Magpies) don't make it to their first birthday. It's a shame, he was cute. The rattlin' bog got set on fire??? Oh dear lol
That’s why the little birds have many young, in the hope that at least two will survive to breed. If you’re a cat person, please keep it inside and a caged run outdoors. They are the worst threat!
Why is the title for this video in Dutch for me? Did I do something wrong or is the title itself in Dutch? Edit: I found out it's just youtube screwing with me again. Lucky for me the video itself is another piece of quality content that goes beyond youtube
@@SmoothGefixt Ye, I'm Dutch :). But I wish youtube would just show the original language of the video if that language is in my language list (in this case it is), instead of always showing the translation.
Just imagine the tragedy a home burning down would have been. Cant just go buy more reed and stuff, and even if you could, it would still take weeks to get all the supplies to your homestead. Takes like half a damn year to build this even with the wall already built! But I guess back then people probably actually worked together to get the place built in a reasonable amount of time.
Great to see someone using a billhook. All this try-hard preppy battoning with a gurt big useless Daniel Boon knife and a lump of wood makes me cringe. You have super craft skills - respect. But don’t hit stuff with your hand - use a tool - you’ll regret it when you’re older if you don’t. If you use a splitter made of hazel fixed into the ground you can split hazel way, way quicker. It’s great to see you putting real care and time into the thatching. Iron Age people were as smart and way more skilled at country crafts than we are. I hate to see shabby piles of rubbish piled on the roofs of historic reconstructions.

Oh oh oh, kan niet hé, jongens. :)
Don't really want this to ever end.
No worries. Its not hard to wait for a good content.
Also dutch!?! Where's her wooden shoes than, húh. The bird scarperd off (for some food) 🍽
in awe of the videography skills going on in this opening scene 🤌
I'm an archaeologist specialising in Iron Age settlement. These video's are a fantastic resource. We have always underestimated the quantity of materials and labour required and the level of detail presented in this build is very helpful. Thanks so much.
From an iron age archaeologist! Thats about the most honorable comment to be recieved:) Of course I feel free to also give some critical feedback;)
The production quality of the videos just get better and better. Well done gents! This is great work. The roundhouse looks great too.

Coming along beautifully boys!
Definitely my favorite series on youtube. No bullcrap, no over the top gimmicks or trying to sell you stuff. Just good craftsmanship
his is my most favourite thing to watch on youtube, I may have to start at the beginning again just so i can get the vibe all day long
You have both worked so hard from the very start.all your hard work and sweat....blood?....tears? is all coming together and you will have constructed an amazing house. you must be local heroes!!!
I’ve been watching these videos since the beginning of the serious lockdowns in my area. Thanks for giving me something to lift my spirits. God bless.
You're getting so close to being done! That's crazy, I don't know how I'll feel about the series being finished
Next up building a castle 🤪

They're far from finished. There's a whole village to build
I agree. This series is a favorite Friday watch. Looking forward to new videos
Another amazing Smooth Friday.
I don't even remember how I stumbled upon this channel, but I'm so glad I did.

Missed you guys last week! Great to see more work on the roof.
It's getting close!
Keep it up.

Love this series, take as long as it takes! Because we can see you're putting alot of effort into making the best result possible!
looking goooood! the thatching time-lapse shots are particularly satisfying....

Clicked so fast. Always good to see a roundhouse video.
i'm both excited and reluctant to watch ... i love the series, and you're almost done 😊
You realy put your body and soul in to this. Your labour and determination is impressive!
Wish you all luck
This series is just so good!!

The best roundhouse.
And I want one.
Good timing. The ultimate bug out shelter for the covid zombie apocalypse
You are gifted and blessed 🙂 thanks for sharing

just crazy to think about how much material they had to harvest back in the day to build whole towns. so much manpower
Even after the roof is made I would like to see some Iron age furniture. Maybe a rack for drying herbs and skins. You guys have put way too much work into this not to do the inside proper. Cheers
This is a must
OH MY GAWD WILL YOU GUYS GET THIS OVER WITH !!! Your grandchildren will still be working on this damn house! Aaawgh!
i just recently discovered your channel and binge-watched nearly every video of yours. its so nice of you to share your skills and love of nature and craftmanship.

As always, nice work.
Hi good job
I love that knife you was using. I never seen one like that
Thank you
Smooth Fridays❤️🇮🇪☘️
Sineaddddddd!!!!!
Hey hope your well, great episode again😊❤️
thats a nice bundle of sticks
Love to see the improvisation of bramble for willow!
Sorry about the Magpie. Tot Ziens!
Ps in some places in the USA we say “Smoove”!
I’ve been waiting for this
Doing a good jib guys
It looks so beautiful. Should be registered with the National Trust to protect it for posterity.
Nice job man.
Man... can't wait!
It's getting so close guy!
Amazing work! Sangat rapi :)
hey man. beard really suits you. you should keep it.
the upload date is getting nearer and nearer :( my binge is finally coming to an end
R.I.P. Peeko T-T
Really enjoying the level of detail you show. Did you get many slivers?
thatching seems to be like crack to me. I was pulling out my hair when this episode was delayed a week.
Also, domestic cats are a menace
Good respectful fellows, cutting short the gossip.
Can I suggest that you place a fire extinguisher somewhere near the campsite. I know it's modern but hey do you really want to lose the Roundhouse?
I can’t wait till you make a celebratory Celtic pizza in your oven.
7:14 Noooooo, that was such an unexpected turn of events 😔
The beard begin to grow🙃

I wander how much the round house will way when it's done. The roof.
If u have time in between or later can u do 6days survival (only knife and cortage)
There seems to be a lot of scrap reed on the ground. Is it a safe assumption that back in the day they used all those scraps to cover the floor of the roundhouse? 🤔

Man poor Pico got Game of Thrones'D not 2mins of screentime.
I am mildly confused as to why you are doing both sod and thatch, as I thought both of these were separately complete roofing formats.
can anybody tell me whay brand boonie hat dylan is wearing

I would think that eye injuries are common with this construction method
The dislike must be from the cat.
