    Great video!!! Love all the knowledge he just gave out to all us nerds!!!!! I have had exprerience with hydra, never had any eat my fry but I had it bad a couple of times. What i used to get rid of it was some fenbendazole, i used one pack, which i think is like 8 grams or something mixed in 10 ounces of tank water and then used 1 ounce of it per 10 gallons, and it killed them within 25-30 minutes. By three days they were gone, couldnt even see the shriveled up ones. What i do know to keep from getting hydra is i rinse the BBS with R.O water or just some regular tap water and havent had any in a few months and i hatch and feed a couple of tablespoons of brine shrimp everyday, so i have tested it thoroughly. I hope this helped someone and sorry for all the typos and misspelled words;)

    What a delight! Where to begin? The plants, algae, partial bare bottom tanks, box filters....be still my heart. Love the small breeding containers, especially the Jack's Links one. I remember using anything I could get, as a kid, like that to grow out live bearer fry in. A few descriptives of Mr. Klinesteker might include: knowledgeable, amazing, and authentic. Oh and Master. He is one of a group that we have so few of left. Much to be learned from him. Take notes people. Thanks Dan, best vid I've seen in a long time.

    Rhombo barbs, I have 9 of them and looking into breeding them in the near future. The only fry I have now are those natural green swordtails which I rear in a 20 gallon green water outdoor tub and are fed daily with finely crushed pellets. The first batch is about a month old now. This video gives me a lot of insight into breeding those egg layers. Thank you Dan.
    P.S I have recently located a spot which may contain a population of wild Puntigrus partipentazona (not into regular domestic strain tiger barbs) . Cheers.

In the same holding aquarium i have much younger threadfin rainbows and yesterday shockingly they did spawn. But I couldnt get the eggs in time... • @DansFish
      @DansFish  4 роки тому

Grand Rapids has a lively fish-keeping scene with lots of hobbiests and breeders. I know he often gets fish from his local club, the GVAC. He also mentioned shopping at Water Colors Aquarium Gallery, a local store that I was lucky enough to tour. I'll drop that vid soon!

  • @Clutchpearls
    @Clutchpearls 5 років тому

    Dan, what is a good Tetra/Barb to start out for first timers?

    • @DansFish
      @DansFish  5 років тому +1

      For barbs, I'd go with cherry or drape fin. Cherry's are easy to spawn and give you large numbers of eggs, but the fry are small. Drape Fins don't give as many eggs, but the fry are bigger. Both are easy to sex and hardy. For tetras, I'd say black neons, congos, and embers might be good places to start. That being said, almost all the common, inexpensive tetras and barbs that are bred on farms would be a fine choice. Gold barbs, rosey barbs, neon tetras...there is a long list.
