@@Grinchpryde That one was pretty terrible. An Eldar and/or a Dark Eldar one would be nice. I think Ad Mech could use some love since they never got a Battleforce with their codex. Personally I would love a Catachan themed battleforce or a Tau one with a hammerhead.

Depends why you are building it, how rich you are and how much hobby time you have. The best overall advice for avoiding a huge pile of shame is start slowly and don't turn your hobby into a chore.
I will say this, the Horus Heresy Terminators come in boxes of 10, instead of 40ks boxes of 5. I personally am using Cataphractii Terminators as Assault Terminators since they are the same scale, and they're only, like, 20 Bucks more expensive than a normal box of Assault Terminators but it has 5 more in it
I'm actually a pretty big fan of running Black Templars force rules for firstborn. Really makes them viable. I figure there's at least a year before the codex drops so plenty of time to have fun with them.
I bought an Ultimate Starter set so I can fight the combat patrols against each other while I figure the game out. The rest are added on as I felt. Calgar, extra infernus marines, extra terminators, a couple of dreadnoughts - because they're cool. 😎
I recommend if you want infurnace marines to continue visiting your friendly local GW or Warhammer store and make sure to ask the gentleman behind the desk to paint a space marine. They will hand you an infernice Marine and you should paint him. Then return the next day 10 days in a row or scattered depending on how you see fit.
Im going to paint my army as Deathwatch and then jump between chapters. Felling like i wanna play dark angels ? I play Dark Angel. Wanna be BT im gonna play as BT today. And Until Keywords are right no one will stop me.
I'm going to be doing this so that I can paint all of the actual cool stuf like characters, and stuff like inner circle companions, and sword bretheren. One word of advice though, get yourself a little base to work from. Just some core units that are okay in every detachement. That way you only have to swap out half an army when you want to switch, and your life becomes easier. Haven't tried this yet btw. Your milage may vary!
I was annoyed I came up with a chapter, called the Blood wolves. I was going to use a mix of Space wolves and Blood Angels kits. Then I found out they were a Chaos warband that already existed. So I got a Chaos Combat patrol and added Wolfy bits to it.

There’s so many space marine units they could get rid of. They need to get rid of Incursors, the infiltrators box should should just be infiltrators. Get rid of ATV Desolation marines All the land raiders should be one profile with different weapon profiles, especially if their ability is the same.
It couldn’t be easier to start a Space Marines army… the hardest part is NOT dwelling on missing out the discount boxes. Timing is everything! I consider myself fortunate that I got into WH40K at the tail end of 8e and kickstarted my SM army with the Dark Imperium and Indomitus boxes. Also, the 9e Combat Patrols were far superior in terms of model selection and discount price. The 10e SM Combat Patrol is POINTLESS because it’s virtually identical to the SM half of the Starter Set. It seems like the 9e SM “Phobos” Combat Patrol is sold out everywhere, so my advice to anyone starting a SM army is to WAIT until this Christmas’ Battleforce boxes. There will definitely be at least one SM BF box and the models will be different than the Starter and CP boxes. Hopefully they’ll be one worth buying. In terms of detachment choice, you don’t need to choose a detachment that matches your chosen SM chapter, but it’s fun to lean into your chapter’s strengths and traditions. Ultimately, buy the units you like, assemble, paint, and get them on the table (don’t procrastinate!), and practice, practice, practice! I’d recommend the Vanguard Speadhead over the others. Gladius is the most traditional detachment, but the 3 combat doctrines could be confusing to newer players. Vanguard’s rules and stratagems are easy to understand and both Infiltrators and Scout squads are excellent at their roles. Add some Aggressors, Inceptors, Eradicators, at least one Redemptor dreadnought or Gladiator Tank, and you’ll have a solid SM Vanguard detachment.

I started a SM Deathwatch army at the start of 10e with the Leviathan box. And then added to it with a custom converted Watch Master and Bladeguard vets. A 5man Hellblaster unit and 5man Heavy Intercessors, both made as firsborns with the new HH Mk3 kit (I used autocanons as the proxy for heavy bolt rifles 😉). There is also a Deredao Dreadnought and Land Raider Proteus that are yet to be painted. I don't actually play warhammer yet and am a hobbyist first, so I have no idea what the points value of the army is so if anyone would be kind enough to add it up for me It'd be appreciated 😅. I love Deathwatch as it opens the door for so many cool thematic units. The Hellblasters are all Iron Hands successors with an IH sargeant. And the Heavy Intercessors are all sons of Dorn, with sargeant being one of the last survivors of the extinct Shadow Wolves chapter. The next addition planned is a Chaplain converted from a Sternguard sargeant with 3rd party bits, who will eventually lead a 5man sqaud of Blackshield Assault Intercessors.
It also depends on the chapter you're choosing to do as well? I'm planning on doing a Raven Guard collection in the near future, and I will end up getting a few units such as infiltrators, an Invictus warsuit, the Vanguard Task Force box, jump pack intercessors, vanguard veterans, etc in addition to some more common marine units.
