    Omg this is so well explained! I've been trying to understand why and how about this upper arm roll out and forearm roll in concept in downward facing dog. Finally I get it now,thank you!

    • @RachelScottYoga
      @RachelScottYoga  2 роки тому

      YAY!!! That is AWESOME! ;) It'll be fun to hear how this goes in your practice...will help set your shoulders ups for fun stuff like dolphiin dog, inversion preps, then handstand, forearm stand....

    Wonderful explanation that cleared up some confusion from another yoga site. The rotation is counterintuitive when the hands are raised. You are a blessing!

    oh my goodness thank you for this amazing video on alignment for the asana. i have watched so many yoga videos from even really experienced teachers and none of them can just break it down into a set of actions you just do which a 4 year old can understand and do.

    May I ask you please to add more details regarding the movement/posture of the shoulder blades during down dog ?

    Thanks for your clear explaination, I didnt know this trick before. If I practise on my own, how do I know if I am doing the downward facing dog correctly? I set both of my hands on the mat in prepeartion as your demontrastion, however I felt like the direction of my arms twisted back to normal after I lifted up my hips.

    Great video! Thanks for the clarification between upper arm( humerus) and lower arm( ulna,radius) movement ( rotation). I think I might have a touch of Dyslexia because I get confused between words that mean the opposite. Sometimes I have to translate anatomical terms into my own visual language first, then reconnect to anatomical terms. For example , in my mind external rotation becomes clockwise. So in my language downward dog becomes upper arms clockwise, lower arms counterclockwise.
    It just takes me longer to figure out what is being said or instructed. More repetitions.More patience.
    My personal perception issues aside, that’s the clearest explanation of shoulder, arm, hand rotation I’ve ever heard. Thanks a bunch.❤

    • @RachelScottYoga
      @RachelScottYoga  Рік тому +1

      Hi Paul! I think you are not alone in the need to translate these anatomical terms into something visual in order for them to make sense ~ clockwise and counterclockwise is such a brilliant way to do it!!!! Thank you for sharing ~ I'm sure others on this thread will benefit from that imagery 🙏🏻👍🏻

    Excellent explanation 👌 👏 and very helpful. Thanks Rachel mam. Is the same position applies in chaturanga?

    • @RachelScottYoga
      @RachelScottYoga  2 роки тому

      You’d want the same kind of stability (and there are opposing rotations from forearm to upper arm), but your arms are not above your head :)

  • @juzbi
    @juzbi 3 роки тому

    Thanks Rachel for explaining this so well, as always. Is there any other benefit of external rotation at the shoulder joint apart from it feeling safe and less tight? Does it active a certain muscle or muscle group? Thanks

    • @RachelScottYoga
      @RachelScottYoga  3 роки тому

      It actually serves to wind up the connective tissue of the joint capsule so that the joint is more stable! So crazy I didn’t know that until last year!

  • @annasternfeldt6031
    @annasternfeldt6031 Рік тому

    Wow! I had no idea that this is how you should do with the arms in downward facing dog. So if you rotate the upper arms internal as the lower arms, what effect will that have?

    • @RachelScottYoga
      @RachelScottYoga  Рік тому +1

      Your elbows will bend out to the sides and the upper back will get scrunchy and compressed ~ it’s also less stable for the shoulder joint ~
