- West Africa is unlike anywhere else on earth - extremely wild, remote, raw and in your face. Driving the entire length of the coast from Morocco to Cape Town in South Africa turned out to be 10,000 times more adventure than even I dreamed possible anywhere on planet earth. Here are my top five experiences driving through some of the most notorious countries in the world.

Greeting from Algeria we hope see you in Algeria soon
Always wanted to visit South Africa...but West Africa sounds like a wild trip! 🤙
I never thought Angola was so nice.
Can you do a ranking of African countries you visited from safest to least safe with some commentary, and another video on road quality, development and these things?
I have to admit I really enjoyed this episode in a big way! I love your story telling! I came for the jeep, but stayed for the adventure.
Glad you enjoyed it!
The Moroccan Sahara is so beautiful ! Thank you for sharing 🇲🇦❤
You're doing and filming, what most offroaders only dream about.
Great overview of West Africa. You have a casual yet deliberate way of bringing out the most sensible and important facets. Love every bit of your vlog, mostly the way you encourage others. Thanks Dan..
Thanks for the kind words and feedback!
My health keeps me in the U.S., So I'll travel through you ! Thank you very much for taking us along. God be with you on your travels.
Man I just wanna say thanks for taking the time to make all these videos! They are full of the greatest motivation and knowledge! I appreciate them! I've been listening to podcasts of interviews with you over the last few years! It must have been an amazing adventure for sure! Congratulations on living your dreams!
I appreciate that!

As someome who grew up in Gabon i was so stoked that you mentioned it. 😁 We did regular trips into the back country while we lived there. Now I'm really thinking about getting a landcruiser and relieve some memories as well as make new ones.
So I guess I learned all of my overlanding experiences the hardest way there is. :)
I started my travels in West Africa, where I actually learned everything I know about traveling in the world.
Now I can hardly wait when all borders are so wide open again that I can finally start my trip to South Africa.
I'm really looking forward to finally exploring Nigeria, Angola and all the other interesting countries that I don't know yet.
I'll get my second vaccination next week. Therefore, the first step into a normal travel world has been made for me.
Woah, baptism of fire right there!
Nigeria, um...Maybe not just now. Angola, you got me thinking...:)
Was about to type the opposite !
We spent the full month of our visa there on our way through. Such an amazing place, Lagos, Wiki-warmsprings, Calabar Carnival and the chimp sanctuary. Would happily spend another month there right now!
Don't believe everything you hear about Nigeria ♥️🇳🇬
I’ve run those same BF Goodrich tires on every jeep I’ve ever had and never been left stranded.. in fact I’m always the one retrieving friends
Another great vid sir!
not sure and doubting doubting where my next trip will be your video helps me a lot thank you for that
Stunning photography and superb storytelling!
Adventure before dementia.
It's not an adventure unless you challenge yourself.

Cultural experience humbles the soul.
Second time I watched. What an awesome video. I agree once Africa is under your skin it never leaves you.
Regards from Cape Town.
Am from Uganda living in BC but I love every bit of my continent from north ,west south to east ,its just unique every step u make. Proud to call it home.
You'll be returning then.....?.
08:28-09:09 😂 dawg you hilarious 😂
Dude this is an epic video! Thanks Dan! We already spoke in the overlanding Africa group! (Cologne to Cape Town in a Yaris)
Very cool!
Loved the video, looking forward to the other big area breakdowns.
Another great video dan😁✌😁✌
I am in love with your video's!! Loved it so much I can't even express!! Thank you for sharing!!
Our next trip is.....West Africa starting in Morocco. Thanks Dan for all the information. And I agree 100% West Africa is like nowhere else on Earth.
Looks owsome hope to go there some day. 😊 Cheers 🍻
I just found your channel. Epic adventures.
Welcome aboard!
My plan is to do another trip in Southern and Eastern Africa, just to get that bit more experience and knowledge. One day, I hope to circumnavigate Africa, and maybe see you on the road one day Dan!
I sure hope so!
Thanks for sharing your knowledge 🙏 do you videos about the other two routes?
They are still on my todo list!
I love what you do bro, keep winning, I'm happy for you, I have a UA-cam channel, I hope one day it starts paying off and I travel like you.
I have a friend in southern africa who always complains about how 'undeveloped' his region is and i I tell him he wont feel that way if he travels through west africa. Even zimbabwe which has such a bad reputation is smooth sailing compared to most of west africa.
Brilliant - thank you for sharing
Great videos, great adventures. Some thoughts: Interesting choice of vehicles (watched your video on choosing your vehicle), including choice of petrol over diesel. I think the Rubicon is a great off road vehicle and as you point out, there is service in many parts of the continent. I have heard of reliability issues, however. I have watched a number of your Africa videos and have not heard of reliability issues you encountered. Any thoughts? Interesting designation of West Africa vs other parts of Africa. I often followed the school of thought which described N Africa as Sahel zone north as being N. Africa, W. Africa as Cameroun and points west, southern Africa defined as Zimbabwe and points south. East Africa was described as Ethiopia down to Mozambique and Central Africa was Zambia, Congo and points surrounding them. Neither description is right or wrong, but interesting for the different points of view.
Was there any concern in the Chimp Rehab Sanctuary about disease transmission from human to chimp? I understand such concerns exist for tourist visit to gorillas in Rwanda and Uganda.
Physical safety is as usual less of an issue once 'on the ground' than what government alerts often say. You travel mostly alone (when not pairing up with friend on the road) . That would give you more freedom of movement but also a lot less support in difficult situations. A lot tougher for you - you're very brave to do so much solo travel.
I wonder when we'll be able to get to West Africa again safely
What’s your next trip going to be?
I noticed on your map you didn't venture into Sierra Leone or Liberia - any specific reason?
It was the rainy season, I found mold inside the Jeep and on my clothes... and I was new to Africa and didn't feel great about the safety situation.
@@TheRoadChoseMe when you said 'there is a saying in Africa' I was irritated by your total sheer ignorance, Africa is a continent with 55 countries, the most genetically and linguistically diverse continent in the world, so it makes more sense to say 'there is a saying in Somalia, or Libya. Or Sudan' and mention the specific country of the saying just like you fo when speaking about proverbs from tiny Europe we don't say 'there's a saying in Europe', you ,entire the name
So have some damn respect you weirdo
Amazing would like to join
Cameroon seemed the most interesting due to the sheer variety of landscapes. It still has vast tracts of forest.
All I know about Angola it's super rich and super expensive. It's a huge country.
Amazing telling Dan
Haha.from Kenya.....
Nice update, loads of fun...Angola is not in West Africa it is in southern Africa
There are videos from TRCM where he listed things to look out for in regards to bribery and such, but in those videos he stresses how this isnt the norm its a complete misconception that there are so many dangers and that all throughout Africa, and he was safe, yet on this map there are a vast majority of countries that were not traveled and when you look those countries up they are countries listed ass "class 4" (do not travel). are there any of TRCM vids that discuss that?
I visited 35 of the 48 African countries on the mainland.
I skipped a few due to not being able to get a visa and/or civl war (Syria, South Sudan, Somalia, Eritrea, Somaliland).
I skipped a few due to them being vasty out of my way, or requiring me to drive through one of the above to get to, thus making it kind of impossible (Chad, Central African Republic, Algeria, Tunisia).
my hunger is getting bigger. W O W
😎👍
Is pcr testing enough or do you have to really be vaccinated?
I realise this is an odd question but does anyone know the brand of steel wheels at 3:09 ?
Thanks,
Owen
They're Mopar Steel winter wheels.
@@TheRoadChoseMe thank you!
How long did it take to cross all those countries?
I spent about a year from Morocco to South Africa, then about a year roaming around Southern Africa then about a year driving up to Egypt on the East Coast
Did you drive through Congo?
I sure did, see the episode here: ua-cam.com/video/OV8V3GdOcPU/v-deo.html
@@TheRoadChoseMe excellent! Thanks 👍🙂
Follow up google search "how to plow sand"
Hey where was it with the chimpanzee ..? Soooo Beautiful!
Congo Congo Congo Congo Congo.
Roads don't choose people. People choose roads.
In this case, “road” is euphemism for travel. 🤦♂️
You got that, right?
@@ReduxGarage the travel chose me?
I like your video but, you kept mixing countries, which makes it harder for those who never been to this beautiful continent (Africa).
FYI : Angola is NOT part of West Africa. Angola belongs to Southern Africa. And again, not South Africa.
And that World's largest Falls (Victoria Falls) you claimed that is remote and have no tourists.....politely, is not true either.
Infact, these Falls have more Tourism than Niagara Falls far annum, due to its climatic region (Geographical site).
That river originates from Zambia and the falls into Zimbabwe, all the way into the great Okavango Delta between, Botswana, Namibia. It's a border. Just like Niagara Falls from US to Canada. And it's hosts the third largest Game park in Africa (The Lwambo Valley) on the Zambian sides.
These days.... it's hard for people to lie on the on the media about things.
