  • West Africa is unlike anywhere else on earth - extremely wild, remote, raw and in your face. Driving the entire length of the coast from Morocco to Cape Town in South Africa turned out to be 10,000 times more adventure than even I dreamed possible anywhere on planet earth. Here are my top five experiences driving through some of the most notorious countries in the world.

As someome who grew up in Gabon i was so stoked that you mentioned it. 😁 We did regular trips into the back country while we lived there. Now I'm really thinking about getting a landcruiser and relieve some memories as well as make new ones.

So I guess I learned all of my overlanding experiences the hardest way there is. :)
I started my travels in West Africa, where I actually learned everything I know about traveling in the world.
Now I can hardly wait when all borders are so wide open again that I can finally start my trip to South Africa.
I'm really looking forward to finally exploring Nigeria, Angola and all the other interesting countries that I don't know yet.
I'll get my second vaccination next week. Therefore, the first step into a normal travel world has been made for me.

We spent the full month of our visa there on our way through. Such an amazing place, Lagos, Wiki-warmsprings, Calabar Carnival and the chimp sanctuary. Would happily spend another month there right now!
Don't believe everything you hear about Nigeria ♥️🇳🇬

Great videos, great adventures. Some thoughts: Interesting choice of vehicles (watched your video on choosing your vehicle), including choice of petrol over diesel. I think the Rubicon is a great off road vehicle and as you point out, there is service in many parts of the continent. I have heard of reliability issues, however. I have watched a number of your Africa videos and have not heard of reliability issues you encountered. Any thoughts? Interesting designation of West Africa vs other parts of Africa. I often followed the school of thought which described N Africa as Sahel zone north as being N. Africa, W. Africa as Cameroun and points west, southern Africa defined as Zimbabwe and points south. East Africa was described as Ethiopia down to Mozambique and Central Africa was Zambia, Congo and points surrounding them. Neither description is right or wrong, but interesting for the different points of view.
Was there any concern in the Chimp Rehab Sanctuary about disease transmission from human to chimp? I understand such concerns exist for tourist visit to gorillas in Rwanda and Uganda.
Physical safety is as usual less of an issue once 'on the ground' than what government alerts often say. You travel mostly alone (when not pairing up with friend on the road) . That would give you more freedom of movement but also a lot less support in difficult situations. A lot tougher for you - you're very brave to do so much solo travel.

@@TheRoadChoseMe when you said 'there is a saying in Africa' I was irritated by your total sheer ignorance, Africa is a continent with 55 countries, the most genetically and linguistically diverse continent in the world, so it makes more sense to say 'there is a saying in Somalia, or Libya. Or Sudan' and mention the specific country of the saying just like you fo when speaking about proverbs from tiny Europe we don't say 'there's a saying in Europe', you ,entire the name
So have some damn respect you weirdo

There are videos from TRCM where he listed things to look out for in regards to bribery and such, but in those videos he stresses how this isnt the norm its a complete misconception that there are so many dangers and that all throughout Africa, and he was safe, yet on this map there are a vast majority of countries that were not traveled and when you look those countries up they are countries listed ass "class 4" (do not travel). are there any of TRCM vids that discuss that?

I visited 35 of the 48 African countries on the mainland.
I skipped a few due to not being able to get a visa and/or civl war (Syria, South Sudan, Somalia, Eritrea, Somaliland).
I skipped a few due to them being vasty out of my way, or requiring me to drive through one of the above to get to, thus making it kind of impossible (Chad, Central African Republic, Algeria, Tunisia).

I like your video but, you kept mixing countries, which makes it harder for those who never been to this beautiful continent (Africa).
FYI : Angola is NOT part of West Africa. Angola belongs to Southern Africa. And again, not South Africa.
And that World's largest Falls (Victoria Falls) you claimed that is remote and have no tourists.....politely, is not true either.
Infact, these Falls have more Tourism than Niagara Falls far annum, due to its climatic region (Geographical site).
That river originates from Zambia and the falls into Zimbabwe, all the way into the great Okavango Delta between, Botswana, Namibia. It's a border. Just like Niagara Falls from US to Canada. And it's hosts the third largest Game park in Africa (The Lwambo Valley) on the Zambian sides.
These days.... it's hard for people to lie on the on the media about things.
