Awesome! I could do this as well when I was in Melbourne years ago cuz I love metro trains and stations SO much, but always I cannot remember all the Stony Point Line stations
@@the_train_man Sorry it was Tony Rickards from Punter to Punter. I remember I saw him at a comedy club and we yelled out Train lines and he would recite every station. One of my mates yelled out a line from Perth and he did that too.
Well done. That is not easy to do. You know all the lines well, and that makes it sometimes hard, if that makes sense, because under pressure, it is easy to leave some out, (even though you would know them all), but you nailed it. Brilliant work.
@@the_train_man The only "mistake" I noticed was that you didn't say Springvale, I think it was, but then I thought it may have been intentional for some reason. Either way, it turned out well. I used to know all the stations in the east and south east, and down to Mornington easily, as we used to work that region a lot. I can still do Dandenong and Frankston lines, (reasonably), yet still leave out Southland and Kananook on Frankston line, and Yarraman on the Dandenong line, as they were the "ad ons", and not original stations. We were supposed to know all the "suburban" stations of the day. A suburban station was any station within 32 miles, (yes miles) of Flinders Street, so the suburban "borders", even though not all electric then, were Wallan, Werribee, Epping, Hurstbridge, Sandringham, Langwarrin, Upfield, Yarra Glen, Bacchus Marsh, & Cranbourne. I think that's all, someone please correct me!! I'm talking about the old days here. The weird thing is too that it actually takes longer to travel to Frankston today at times, than it did way back with less tracks out of the city, and allegedly slower trains. The Taits were as fast as the Harris sets, rougher ride, but as fast. Nobody ever fell out of open doors in summer, (well not often), but imagine if Taits were running today, workplace health and safety would ban them.
@@125sloth Yes Brian, Springvale was the main mistake, certainly not intentional! Very fascinating to hear of the 32 mile radius, I am sure that would include quite a few more stations today, and back then as well. I believe, like you said, that it would be virtually the same times between today's trains and a Tait train to Frankston, which is crazy. However, due to some stations being quite close together, I don't see a reason to speed up the trains, instead have more frequent runnings. Thanks again 👍
@@the_train_man Very well said. I was sorting some crap out in the spare room before and found old timetables that I thought had been lost forever.
