    As a retired Driver, I like your dream map thinking. You have a bright future, and I hope you get in a position one day to carry out your dream. The things that are being done now should have been done 40 years ago, particularly re-opening Whittlesea & the Geelong electrification. I will not live to see your dreams come to fruition, but you might. I live in a country town, now deprived of a railway.. This town has certainly gone backwards since the line closure in 1978. Keep up the passion.

      I can't speak for The Train Man but I reckon that there should be Victorian stations at Seymour, Shepparton, Wangaratta, and Wodonga. As for NSW, I would definitely include Albury and Wagga Wagga, and possibly include a detour in Canberra.
      After that, I am undecided about going through Bowral or Wollongong. The latter would be better because it is more populated but going through Bowral might require less land acquisition IMO.

    I love it, a little city centric though. Major investment and upgrades need to be made in country lines, these lines have been neglected for decades. Bulk goods to port, Melbourne or upgrade of Hastings to reduce truck movements. And the upgrade to satellite cities Ballarat, Bendigo, Geelong etc, TGV style so people can commute to Melbourne of employment , education or other needs.
    Would also be great to see rail network employ people directly rather that PPP, private, public partnerships.

      @@thetrainman548 A very interesting concept you are proposing. Well done. It is clear to see you have put much time and planning into your ideas to improve Melbourne's metropolitan train network.
      Next task to consider with your train network proposal is the re-scheduling of train timetables........ With these additional lines, and new routes linking existing lines, effective and efficient timetable scheduling will be paramount.
      Still waiting for the promised 1968 proposed extension of the Glen Waverley Line to Mulgrave, Rowville and Knox.
      It will be more efficient to have the Knox Line run along the spine of both Stud Road and then along Ferntree Gully Road and possibly linking up with the Belgrade Line at Ferntree Gully Station. Knox City Shopping Centre already has a tram link along Burwood Highway, so no requirement for a train station at Knox City Shopping Centre.

    Here's another few dream rail projects First off the Werribee Line extended to Waurn Ponds via Geelong, next up suburban trains returning to Warragul or in other words extending the Pakenham line back out to Warragul since the late 90s, then a new line to Wollert with new stations at Epping Plaza, Epping North, Aurora and finally Wollert, this will be apart of Metro Tunnel 2 starting from Lalor connecting with the Mernda line, up next the Suburban Rail Loop being expanded with new connections at Coolaroo, Roxburgh Park, Craigieburn, Laverton, Newport, Southern Cross, Flinders Street, Port Melbourne, St Kilda and Brighton, Hampton and Sandringham with new stations at Highland (which is near Craigieburn), Mickleham, Yuroke, Greenvale, Atwood, Westmeadows, Gladstone Park, Oaklands Junction (near Melbourne Airport), Taylors Lake, Kealba, Keilor, Airport West, Essendon Fields, Nidree, Avondale Heights, Maribyrnong, Maidstone, Braybrook, Brooklyn, South Kingsville, Black Rock and Beaumaris so that way it's like it does a whole loop around Melbournes train network in both directions, next the Frankston which will soon become the Baxter line to connect with the Craigieburn and Upfield lines to merge as Metro Tunnel 3 using Flagstaff, Melbourne Central and Parliament Stations platforms 2&3 along with a line to Rosebud which would also be extended to Sorrento then to Portsea along with the Craigieburn line extending out to Wallan with new stations at Craigieburn East, Kalkalo and Beveridge and last but not least Ballarat, Bendigo and Geelong get their own metro rail network. All those dream rail projects will even feature 100 more new HCMT trains for Metro Tunnels 2&3 and the Waurn Ponds electricfication will also be apart of Metro Tunnel 2, more trains on the Suburban Rail Loop as apart of the expansion and new trains for the Ballarat, Bendigo and Geelong metro rail network while the Warragul extension will use the Metro Tunnel 1. What do you think of that? Pretty cool huh?😁

    • @tonydarcy7475
      @tonydarcy7475 7 місяців тому

      A Geelong metro rail network would actually be a lot easier than most people think. There is already a freight train to Ballarat & Ararat from Geelong via Gheringhap, so reinstating part of those lines as passenger lines & adding a few extra stations shouldn't be too hard, especially since the Ararat line is already used by the Adelaide train. Then there was the former Queensclif line which is actually still operational between Drysdale & Queensclif for a tourist steam train and most of the land is still vacant, so reopening that line should be easy enough too. Lastly there is already land zoned for a Torquay line, so building that can be done too.
      Doing all of these would give Geelong a substantial rail network and would require very minimal tunneling and/or land acquisition (with a duplication from South Geelong to Geelong being the only one required to accommodate the extra train services). Three of them could also have good connections with Melbourne by sending 1/3rd of trains from Melbourne to Warrn Ponds, 1/3rd to Torquay and 1/3rd to Queenscliff.

    1) Having trains to Chadstone would totally free up the busses. I remember whenever I've caught a bus to Holmesglen early in the morning and it would be half empty once you drop people off at Chadstone.
    2) MORNINGTON PENINSULA! YES! I don't live there anymore, but I hated, absoloutly HATED the bus system. Especially in Rosebud, it'd be every 50 minutes during the week and every 50mins - 1 1/2 hr for a bus. Bloody hell it was frustrating. Even if they just do what the backbeach/Stony Point has, where it has a train system that doesn't come so often, but the a bus that does. Also during the tourism months, catching the bus was bloody hell, because so many tourists would jump on and it's just like, I have to deal with a 1hr 5min bus trip, I just wanna go home! Also I feel like /at least/ an electrification to Hastings would be better than just to Baxter. But I've never really gone past Hastings whenever I'd visit a friend, so...
    3) Having a train line that "replaces" the 901 would be fantastic. I mean I have a major hatred for the 901, but it would help free up a lot of the dodgy people, I mean they can either choose a bus or a train. But at least if they try and fight with you, you can move train carriages instead of just moving from one section of the bus to another.

      @thetrainman548  3 роки тому +4

      Thanks again Missy :). I would definitely love Chadstone connection, such a big hub for so many people and it needs a bigger, more reliable transportation at it.
      The Mornington Penisula, despite it being a fairly close to Melbourne and decently populated, feels so isolated, in terms of transport! I hope that transport is improved down there, whether it be trains, or creation of a bus transport hub. Thanks again

    Im a few years late but i love your passion for this. One thing I would say, cease service on the Altona loop but keep the loop intact.
    In Brisbane we have the seldom-used Tennyson loop, which is a great help when we have inner city closures for the Cross River Rail, as Beenleigh and Gold Coast lines can redirect to the city via the Ipswich/Springfield lines. The same could be used in a pinch if theres ever any issues on V-Line, and they need to redirect via Werribee/Altona.

    Interesting mix of known future and aspirational projects here. One issue with a lot of these options is the creation of additional spur lines in already busy corridors, which becomes very complex operationally. Fragmentation of a trunk with several spurs can become a nightmare, especially when there are delays.
    I’d personally like to see a reinstatement of the outer circle line, basically extending the existing Alamein line alignment. It’s not unrealistic to think it could be extended to the south to go past Chadstone and join in at Clayton, then extend north through Kew and change direction out to Doncaster. Operating as a shuttle like that would provide so many options for moving around the eastern suburbs, but as you say, they’ve already go enough infrastructure.
    Ultimately the government sees the rail network as being for commuters, so until business becomes more decentralised in Melbourne there won’t be much in the way of major changes to how the network is planned.

      A mention to this is that the Point Cook line's existance would turn Newport into a three way interchange, but it would get a benifit from not having to serve Altona North if Paisley reopens. Also I think that Seabrook deserves a station, it's also served by Williams Landing and the Werribee line needs the pressure off it at this point

The proposed loop could allow HCMT trains to be seen at Frankston, and serve some suburbs that currently have no suburban rail representation.

Then have it connect to Brighton Beach, through to Moorabin Airport and Dingley, before going through Dandenong, then Karingal, Baxter and onto the Mornington Peninsula.

You know, my city once stood as the biggest tram system in the world but then Melbourne overtook it in the 90s and that was a sign that while St Petersburg stagnated and fell into disrepair, Melbourne sprung up, grew and developed!

    This is what Melbourne needs, free thinkers. Using rational thought but not constrained by other factors.
    Yes the free thoughts need to be reigned in by budgetary constraints but we all need to think outside the square which he is and good on him for doing so.
    I hope he gets a job in town planning for we need free thinkers like him!

    I drove to Monash uni in Caulfield for the past 5 years and didn’t realise how close Alamein is to holmesglen and chadstone. Would literally need 2 extra stations to extend that. The train line to Rowville could also make sense to go from Glen Waverley. This with A Knox city line running through wantirna, and Vermont would free up the Belgrave line a lot too, as a lot of people would commute to those stations

    I like the plan mate. As a person in the east I particularly like the Rowville, Doncaster, and Knox City lines. Perhaps even extending the 75 Tram line from Vermont Sth to Knox as well to have improved connectivity. But I don’t think the connection of the sky rail to the Rowville line would really work. I also like the Alamein line going to Chadstone as I think it would improve business there, free up the busses and car parking in the area whilst rejuvenating an almost forgotten and rather underused line.
    The other pt I’d like to see improved isn’t train related but separating the tram lines and roads where possible. (Like what they did on Burwood Hwy past Deakin uni ) I believe this would help massively with traffic congestion as cars wouldn’t be held up by trams stopping and starting.
    Then finally some road upgrades such as completing North East Link, West Gate Tunnel, East West Link, extra lanes on Monash Fwy, and Tullamarine Fwy in conjunction with the pt would finally bring us back up to speed with the growing Melbourne.

    Hi Max, great presentation and good imagination. As you say some of these lines have been talked about for over 60 years. The Geelong line should have been electrified years ago. It took ages to even duplicate. The Upfield line another one. The Leogatha line , another huge mistake closing it, and the Airport line, the list is endless. But your plan is good as long as Governments finance public transport.Cheers.

    About Doncaster. If you look north from the Hoddle street bridge over the freeway, you will see that the inbound freeway lanes go up and over then down and under the bridge. The rumor is, there is an existing rail bridge under that hump, to allow a branch line from Clifton Hill to go down the freeway median to Doncaster. Allegedly it was built as part of the freway in the 1970s, when the freeway was built.

  • @aidanthomas2510
    @aidanthomas2510 3 роки тому +1

    I wish governments had the forward thinking you do.
    1. Definately think Doncaster Rail needs to be built and following the Eastern Fwy alignment, just like trains in Perth.
    2. Airport Rail needs to happen. If it's via Sunshine then I hope the govt follows through with the tunnel option because the amount of rail activity there already not to mention what would be there in the event of a Melton and Wyndham Vale electrification would make Sunshine a constraint if it wasn't.
    3. Geelong line should be electrified in coming years although it would kind of render RRL pointless (the point of it was literally to seperate V/Line and Metro trains), all you could say it had done at that point was provided a rail line to growing suburbs and redeveloped inner suburban stations. And it would likely require work around Manor junction to connect trains to Werribee. However I guess something has got to be done about the crowding and lack of avaliable train slots/paths on that corridor, which has literally been there since day one and I cannot believe the govt didn't see coming. Put a train line to the city through 2 of the biggest growth suburbs, of course people will use it. Only recently has V/Line begun trialling the line's 9 car capacity.
    4. Metro 2 needs to happen before Suburban Rail Loop in my opinion. Just makes way more sense.
    Definately want to see more videos from you out West soon. This is actually a great train channel. Nice video man.
    P.S come to think of it I guess electrifying to Wyndham Vale given the 9 car capacity would mean the line could easily use the HCMT's. And there's no level crossings along that whole route (well except 3 in Deer Park which will hopefully be removed), so.

    • @aidanthomas2510

Plus I normally don't question cost as I'm pro infrastructure, but $50 billion right now? And I'm sure the state will pay for the whole thing because the feds never chip in for public transport or anything in Vic for that matter, yeah I don't see us being able to afford it. I'll be honest, I live not too far from the site of Paisley Station and I think that the Point Cook Line getting rid of the area between Westona and Laverton on the Altona Loop and reopening Paisley and Galvin stations would be amazing, as I'm stuck going to either Altona or Newport whenever I need to catch a train somewhere and I have to catch a bus up to there, and vise versa when I'm returning from somewhere on a train. But I think Paisley Station would have a name change to Altona North station if it was reopened, as I know suburb borders and it's actually located in Altona North, so Galvin and Paisley/Altona North reopening would be amazing for Altona North commuters, and with the site being very close to a new shopping centre, it would attract a bit more attention to us as a suburb, hopefully funding more projects that can help out the Hobsons Bay community and give Altona North more options for public transport and more chances to thrive

    3. Sandringham - Port Melbourne. Line runs underground after Flinders st with a new station in Southbank (city rd) and South Wharf (Normanby st) and then running along old Port Melbourne alignment
    4. St Kilda - Upfield line. Upfield line gors underground after Flemington Bridge - Arden - North Melbourne - Southern Cross - South Wharf (interchange with Port Melbourne line) - then run along old St Kilda Alignment - St Kilda Beach@Acland St - Elwood - Elsternwick.
    5. Rowville - Inner Loop. Also there needs to be a spur line on the Mernda line starting at Lalor and finishing at Wollert. The Wollert line could even connect to the Wallan line at Donnybrook. You have to sometimes look at the Government's perspective though. Despite their lack of doing a lot of things we would like them to do, you could see why they wouldn't electrify to Wallan. For comparison, Melton, mentioned in this video, had 726,000 V-Line passengers in 2017, compared to Wallan's 149,000. Like you said though, the growth corridor there is huge, and I hope the the Government see's that and electrifies to Wallan, which will boost growth in those areas. I don't think I'd put the airport station on the Sunbury line. Preferably we'd use the existing cargo line to Airport West or use the closer Craigieburn Line (although there's a lot of traffic on that line). Alternatively you could start the outer suburban loop by connecting Watergardens to Broadmeadows which would run through the airport and split the traffic.
    Forget Chadstone, where's the train to Highpoint?
