  • Doomer Media critiques the Caitlin - Vi interrogation scene but it is poorly received by the other EFAP panel members. Doomer then defends his point of view.
    I provided the original scene for the best understanding of the following discussion.

    I just find it so weird how dismissive Doomer is of their counters and his go to defense is essentially "I've been to prison, so I have the expert opinion." He did the same thing with his nuclear take on video games and saying that he has a better say cause he's played games for 30 years.

    Man, the the whole thing could've been avoided if Doomer weren't so attached to his position. Like he received SEVERAL decent answers to his question. But as soon as he said "...I actually know what it's like to be in a prison", his goose was cooked.
    1) He was basically admitting in that moment that he didn't have an argument. He was just pulling from personal experience.
    2) He also comes off as condescending, which doesn't exactly enamor the others with the tone of the discussion, especially when Doomer's so clearly WRONG to every single one of them.
    3) He also signals that he's insecure about his position, because he actually escalates the tone of the discussion here from "normal discussion" to "Doomer's clearly nervous about this"
    Then Doomer just doubles and triples down. It's just painful man. Honestly, he might've still recovered, but then he lost his shit and took a distorted view of events to suit his narrative. Naturally, this is what really turned the keys on the guys' patience.
    Conversely, a part of me almost wishes Doomer would've kept bringing up his criticisms (the ones he basically bragged about in the beginning of Part 1). Seriously, as annoying as this was, the positive side of it is watching the mechanics of good arguments and bad, and how personal biases and hangups can seriously confuse even an open-shut case.
    It also has the side effect of showing just how good Arcane is. It's not a 10/10 (if anything is), but another way to look at this argument is "EFAP gets under the hood of a very basic scene and shows you just how well the thing runs". Its a strange form of art appreciation and analysis. I would show this shit in a classroom if I was talking about interpersonal arguments or writing a scene. After watching this, I feel like I know the Vi+Caitlyn scene like the back of my fucking hand. haha

    • @alclark01
      @alclark01  Рік тому +13

      The error that both sides make is that Doomer's criticism is addressed in the scene (or at least part of it). Doomer thinks that Caitlin should have done other investigation before leaving with Vi but its shown that she did, just not how much. Caitlin didn't know about the incident before she arrived and obviously didn't know about Vi. However, when Caitlin is interrogating Vi, Caitlin says she's read Vi's file, proving that Caitlin did other investigation before interrogating Vi.
      If anyone in this discussion realized this, the whole mess could have been avoided.

    • @wilder11
      @wilder11 Рік тому +22

      @@alclark01 I'm not so sure. Doomer's point was that it felt convenient. That's fine for him to feel, but when asked if it was based on anything, he couldn't give any answers. Instead of just taking the very minor L, or just saying "I dunno, it just felt that way to me. But you guys bring up some interesting points" - instead he just flipped out.
      So I really don't think there's anything they could've said that would've defused the situation. Doomer's just a timebomb, full-stop. The fact that it keeps happening means it's either EFAP's fault, Doomer's fault, or both.
      And given that the EFAP boys explained it multiple ways and gave Doomer multiple attempts to explain himself, he still acted a fool. So I gotta blame Doomer here.

    Does doomer know there’s a difference between prison and jail? He probably went to jail, not prison. Also, both Caitlyn and Vi have something to gain from working with each other. It has nothing to do with trust, just a mutual understanding of that they both gain something. I wish he came back though, his takes were gold. He has played games for 30 years.

    I think even in maulers “dead end” possibility where the goon got beat up because of a gambling debt it would still be such a lead. Oh shoot he gambles!!! Where? Do more of Silcos goons gamble there? Even if it’s a shot in the dark it would be more then Caitlyn had before going in to the prison now when she goes to the under-city she has a place she can at least start at, heck even a genre of place to look for.

      Well he's held back by his own desperate opinion of himself. He THINKS he has some unique insight to media, when he actually has a very limited viewpoint. He's not useless, but he holds himself back from expanding his expertise because he acts like he does in this video. He can't stand being challenged on something he feels strongly.
      He reminds me of ME in my worst moments. I'm very picky and emotional, and in my younger years I thought I had a monopoly on good taste, when really I just got my taste from others and my takes weren't always well thought out. Just like Doomer. It's clear he just reached this conclusion and didn't really think it over, he just assumed he found some secret hole in the show that nobody else was seeing.
      But I believe in Doomer. The same way Frodo believes in Smeagol. LMAO

    What no one mentioned is that, if we go by the images shown on screen, what the guard described to Caitlyn wasn’t a CIRCUMSTANTIAL beating Ie: Silco’s henchman cutting in the lunch line and Vi beating him.
    What we see is Vi approaching the henchman while lunching and caving his face in, this can be an indication of one of two options: Vi is a psycho that randomly beats people, OR Vi knows that guy and has a personal reason to assault him. It may be a thin lead, but it’s reasonable enough for Caitlyn going to speak with Vi.
    But on the other hand… *Otter Tisms intensifies*

    Doomer brought up Silence Of The Lambs, which doesn’t help his position. Just to disprove his point even further, here’s a better example: Red Dragon. Both in the novel and in both adaptations, Will Graham goes to visit Hannibal Lecter in tracking down The Tooth Fairy before he goes after his next victim during the next full moon. He was antagonistic towards Hannibal since he doesn’t trust him due to A) almost being killed by him during his capture and B) since he tried to think the way he did he spent months in therapy just to get his mind back on track. He damaged him both physically and mentally, and Hannibal is known for being a master manipulator.
    However, he still visited him in order to gain information and Hannibal cooperated. He still attempted to sway Francis Dollarhyde to go after Will and his family but even then Will still visited him because he had vital information that eventually lead to Will tracking him down. Even if someone is dangerous, they still have information that’s worth checking out.
