Scotty Kilmer I could not find the link to item #10. I'm in need of it plz post
Scotty Kilmer hey scotty my car dies then the oil pressure light comes on but starts back up again what can be the problem
I got a 2001 mercury sable 3.0 DOHC 24 v with an AX4N trans with coil pack in back where is the oil level sensor beside the oil filter where no one can tell me can you
I have a Acura MDX 2009 and I change the sensor I bought a new sensor and still the light is coming you know what's the problem
Scotty do you have suggestions for low oil pressure due to main bearing blowby? 1999 silverado with 350k miles, not exactly ready to replace or rebuild the engine($$$)
scotty you're an automotive legend
Sounds like Matthew Lesko: ua-cam.com/video/t2jaJtj8FUM/v-deo.html
Comes off about as credible sometimes too. This is a good place to start, but it won't help with real problems like worn (loose) bearings and bad oil pumps that lower pressure.
@@VndNvwYvvSvv ok
He is
i cant believe conan obrien is a mechanic in real life.... lmao. 😂
@MrGizmo757 yes it will, the pump may be pumping oil to a spot that's blocked, backing up pressure to the gauge hole where you measure the pressure. Find that blockage and fix it fast, cause other parts of the engine are getting no or low oil.
Scotty I really like these videos. Most mechanics would not dare share this information with people because that would affect their business. It's really nice of you to offer this type of information for free. In response to the vid subject: It's a good idea to go ahead and change the oil when you replace this part because a lot of the time, most of the oil will drain when the filter is removed. Also certain types of oil can lose viscosity over time which my add to the false reading.
@Matthew55904 NO, it's only too late if the engine starts clanking like mad and you keep driving it. the oil pressure light is a warning light, warning you to do something BEFORE it's too late. Scotty
if sending unit is not bad, and you actually have high oil pressure, that's normally a clogged oil feed line in the engine, which backs up pressure before the sending unit and makes it go sky high. Real fun job then taking the engine apart.
What if the oil lights coming on occationally on start and the oil is suddenly overfilled according to the dip stick.
*Note the oil light goes away if you restart the engine and this is on 2005 Jeep Liberty 3.7L V6.
@TOMZM15 many things can cause low oil pressure, from a weak oil pump to a worn engine where the bearings have worn enough that the oil pressure drops from going through too wide a space. figuring out what's doing it is pretty much educated guesswork, other than tearing the whole engine down and rebuilding it. Scotty
Scotty, you the Man!! Love your show and mindset. Keep up with the tips for us. I am a 60 yr old mechaholic and fall off the wagon once in awhile...so I tend to get intoxicated with these new fangled cars. You my friend, help me out a lot.

Very helpful video, Scotty. You saved me a lot of money and time. I have 220,000 miles on my Honda Accord Coupe and I replaced the oil sender switch and it-worked! Thank you!
Best how to fix your car video I've seen. Even got the camera underneath the car.
when the engine spins slower, the oil pump spins slower too. But, as long as the engine does not clank when the light comes on, you can drive it.
But in my car oil pressure blink on warm engine when low speed sometime when cold engine not light blinking Can I drive continuously
yes, they are made to come on with key on to show they work. Normal. If you like my car help, be sure to watch my live car talk show every saturday morning at 10 AM CST on google events. Sir, my name is Michael from Malaysia. I watched your channel all the times and I find it very useful 👍👍👍👍👍
Scotty, Great job on your videos! You get right to the point and provide valuable information without useless jibber jabber. Thanks so much for that!!!
@MrRichierich1990 engines just flat wear out over time. Even with oil pressure, an old bearing can fail, and result in a locked up engine. The oil pressure gauge only measures oil pressure where it is, not in any other locations. Scotty
Thanks Scotty for all your informative car videos...
Hey Scotty- for what's its worth this was exactly my problem. I fixed it in just a few minutes and I'm sure it saved a ton. Thanks for sharing this. I knew I had plenty of oil and the pump is spinning. I replaced this and the warning shut off. Awesome.
i like scotty, so original way to show his experience.
Its unfortunate you're not my local mechanic,... most of them here don't seem to know what they're doing.. You the man, Scotty!
try a new oil sending unit as in this video, and pray that fixes it.
I think I fkd up the thread of the oil sensor in the engine , its allmost gone , what to do now :o?? HELP!!! the engine is 15 years old :(
Scotty, help. I changed my oil myself and drained it for too long, about 30 minutes. The BT50 '09 no longer starts afterwards. Any recommendation?
@@laevalla there is no such thing as draining your oil for too long.
@moofushu I'd go Ford these days, GM has far too many problems for me. Scotty
Hey, Scotty. I've been watching your videos for a long time, and they've helped me a lot. I have a problem with the oil light coming on or flashing when the car is fully warmed up, usually in traffic. After I got home, I waited about 20 min and checked the oil level and it was full. Then I started the car again, but the light didn't come on. The can in question is 98 BMW 5 series (E39) with six cylinder engine. It has a million kilometers on the clock, and although it burns oil, the engine seems to run just fine. It has good power, and I don't hear any noises. Could that be a faulty oil pressure sensor or is it more likely that my engine is worn out?
@dirtyflatmates yes, same part. but I'm having fun and youtube pays good for ads they run, so I'm happy as it is.
Scotty, Don’t forget the pick up tube being clogged is common on some models too.
Explain that please
@@ThelastBosnian It's the tube that runs from the oil pump down into the oil pan to suck up the oil. There's a screen on the end of it that can become clogged.
generally the carbs get all gunked up. Empty the gas tank, clean it out, and remove the carb and clean every tiny hole and jet carefully.
@DavidTheCatMedia change the oil pressure switch, and if it still flickers, live with it on that old thing, oil pressure always drops some with old age. Scotty
Hey Scotty! I have a Toyota Corolla 2000, and I was told that the oil pump may be clogged and to remove the oil pan. Is this right?
they make special oil pressure removal sockets for that engine, get one from an auto part store, and even then you may have to remove many parts to get enough room.
Thanks for the tips, love your personality. I'm having a mechanic check out my car(96 Honda accord).Oil pressure light suddenly came on. I'll find out more soon. hopefully nothing major
Did you ever find out ?
Nice. I like the quick common sense style of your videos
what if that light turn on intermittently during driving? i checked the oil it's not dirty nor low.
Your oil light on your car dashboard is faulty or your oil pump is starting to going bad.
I have a similar issue. It stopped after I got an oil change last month , but has now started again just today on Jan. 7th.
I'm willing to bet it's just a faulty sensor.
(I'm hoping it's just a faulty sensor).
@@jacksonkids1 what was it? Mine is doing it now, though now it stays on so I'm sure it's my sensor. Before it was only at idle which was scary.
@@A42yearoldARAB did you ever find out what it was?
@@Chu3505my oil pressure light came on but turned off by itself. But my car sounds really rough while accelerating. Would this be an oil pump issue?
the fans are normal. The thermostat is at the end of the big hose coming from the radiator and bolting to the engine head. Two bolts and it's inside the thermos housing where the hose clamps to the engine
hey scotty can you do a video on the oil pump
Guillermo Hill
Hi
Mike Beason hi
@@Jack-sh6xr hi
And 10 years later, my oil pressure light came on. Scotty's wisdom transcends time.
I was born in Amarillo TX ..... You just gotta like a Texan !
if oil pump is not working, engine will rattle like mad when you start it up and it's running. You remove the oil pressure sending unit on the engine and install a mechanical test gauge there to see if it works or not
oil pump screen or filter clogged up or sensor
do all of this older car like a 2001 mercury220 thous-miles put the right oil and filter which one you do first I well put the oil sencer on eng first needs oil change take oil pan on anyways clean oil pump make sure oil pump gears sliping
no english
You can't, but try a quart of engine oil flush, all auto stores sell em and directions are on the can, It can unclog them. @S.S. W. Gets it in life + knows how to be genuinely grateful 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 Bravo!
It’s too bad you can’t turn down his arms, they drive me crazy.
it's on the front of the block, above and to the left of the main harmonic ballancer that drives the fan belts. Near where the right head bolts to the block
Thanks again scotty--- You made my day. I just changed my oil sensor and it 's all good again. My oil light is off and know I can trade up to the car I really want.
@paingain100 not really, it wouldn't effect vacuum, only oil pressure. And if it's leaking, replacing it would stop any oil related low pressure problems if no other problems exist in the engine.
Hi Scot, first time watching your video. You're awesome. I was searching for what to do when your thermostat light comes on car: Hundai Tuscon 2013-2014. Love your video. Simple and easy 👍
@ToofpikRK Well, that won't happen any time soon, I don't do jobs that like anymore, no one has the great amount of money to pay for such a job these days. So I stick to ones people will pay for. Scotty
there are 6 different engines on that car,but most V6 engines have the sending unit right near the oil filter. Jack it up and look up there for it.
@trunk516 No, you're watching backwards. I wound it so the thread is followed. Scotty
@jdm4life89 then someone really messed up the rebuild. But of course, hook up an actual mechanical oil pressure gauge that we mechanics use to see if it really has none. could be a gauge problem, pray it is.
it means unburned gas is getting into the oil, such as leaking fuel injectors or head gasket blowing
Thanks for the video! Wife's truck started this today and with the video the switch out was quick and easy. In addition the old sending unit apparently blew oil up into the connector when it failed. Hit it with some mass sir sensor cleaner and air to clear that out.
Did that take care of the issue?
Scotty, this helped me fix my 914. Thank you!
replace the battery first, bmws eat up batteries if they sit unused for any length of time. It will also effect warning lights if power is low
I LOVE THIS GUY
ITS ALL ABOUT SAVING MONEY
PLUS SHOWING PEOPLE THAN DON'T KNOW A THING WHAT THE PROBLEM COULD BE
I come to this guy for all my car problems
try any good engine flush in the oil, follow the directions on the can, then change the oil and filter and pray. If that doesn't work, engine would have internal bearing damage
This video is work for my car. I fixed the oil light to turn off. Thanks for the video
@Diabloscampeones9 should be by the oil filer, jack it up and look up there. scotty
Mr. Kilmer thank you very much. You the best.
Thank you for getting to the point unlike many other videos I like your style thank you
@josephdupont engine oil pressure works the switch. It can make em shift poorly, especially on GMs where it's tied into all kiinds of electronic controls.
Thanks for the tip to just replace, took 2 hours to replace because it was hiding behind the intake manifold. 2008 dodge caliber 2.0. I would have had a hard time trying to test.
have the oil pressure sending unit removed and replaced to see if it goes back up to normal. Pray it does, normally it will if no noise is made when running
@Miguelcoolio A worn engine, that baby's old. Big money rebuilding the whole engine as it all wears out inside, but if it runs ok otherwise, I see guys drive em years that way. If the engine does not clank, it's not hurting anything Scotty
yes, you remove the factory sending unit sensors and screw in the mechanical ones. then you remove the oil pressure warning idiot light bulb or led in the dash to turn the old one off
Thanks, Scotty! Oil is good. There's no leak. Sensor is busted
Hey Scotty, I think it is awesome you actually respond to comments. That being said, where is the oil sending unit on a 99 Dodge Grand Caravan.
Thanks, i am now confident that this is the problem with my moms 2002 dodge grand caravan, she said the light will come on briefly and go off and do that a few times, checked the oil and it was fine so i believe this is the issue
that was a fun and quick video Thankls
some of these videos can be boring lol
first, you need the correct siwtch. If that still reads low, either the oil pump is bad or the engine has worn internally causing low oil pressure
My car did that due to a leak out of the valve cover the gasket might be bad too a few months ago my Uber passenger complained about smelling oil too but I had no idea I did watch a engine tear down video and the guy said the engine I have is the worst lol 162k miles engine light been on since 100k still rolling though a garage is going to look at my bucket this Monday 💯
You need your own T.V. Reality show Scotty. I would watch you.
Dear Scotty, I have a 99 dodge caravan base model 2.4L, 4 cyl. Absolutely love this van. It was a hand me down, free 98,000 miles. the brakes were total shot. Trans stuck in 2nd gear, only has 3. I got all that fixed and has served me well 10+ years.
Recently if I go very far, for me that's 25 miles, the oil light and bell comes on. I pull over, shut down, check oil is fine. start it back up and proceed no lights or bells. gets me home. Ya think I should have an oil pressure check done. And if the engine does blow do you have an estimate for remanufactured replacement? Mileage now is 191,000. Love, love, love this van. It's plain and simple not all gooked up with electric everything like todays models. Sure the A/c and radio doesn't work but I'm fine with that.
What i NEVER got about cars. They have an oil warning light, that come on only when the car is so dreadfully low on oil the engine is probably already terminally damaged. Why not make them so the oil warning light comes on at a sensible time, for example when the oil is half way between the min and max marks on the dipstick, so you have plenty of time to top up before you start grinding metal?
My BMW has 1qt low sensor and 2qt low sensor plus the critically low sensor. It takes 7qt of oil total.
@@Starscreamious that's why I'll never own a bmw... You just described 3+ sensors for one job... Are we serious right now ?
@@MechInvent It really was that way. And I don't see the problem in this circumstance as oil level is highly important.
If it was that sensitive it would come on every time you accelerate or take a corner, best bet is to just pull the dipstick and check every day or two before you turn the key
@@Starscreamiousbecause they want you to buy the next car
Anyone else feel like buying a beater and fixing it only using Scotty Kilmer’s videos?
@bhstone1 In that case, you'd remove the oil pressure sending unit and put an actual mechanical oil pressure gauge on it and run the engine. IF the pressure really was low, then nothing to do but take the engine apart and fix it, a VERY expensive endeavor in most cases. Scotty
@ncrdisabled The resistor isn't that bad if you remove the glove box. But the back three plugs are a cow, you really need to take the intake manifold to do it correctly. Scotty
Just had mine replaced in my 02 intrepid she runs alot better now.
I had the oil changed today(they were going to replace the unit) and was wondering if it is ok to run it with this fault code. The Jeep has never needed to be top up and runs like a champ. Thanks again. Jamie
This guy is cool, funny, scarey and creapy all at the same time he is teaching me stuff.
@sh115067 It's on the cylinder head, just unscrew it counter clockwise. Get a new one first, then it's simple to match it up
HI Scotty first off thx for all the hard work you do to produce these videos ... Well my question is I have a 2007 Chrysler 300 and just tonight the oil pressure light came on .. I checked the oil and its good.. I believe you recommended the next step is to replace the sending unit which I will do but im curious for now just to get through the week till my days off can I drive my car that way without causing damage ? THX IN advance
thanks scotty .. oil pump switch was my problem and a very cheap fix thanks 4 the help
I learned so much from Scotty i work on most of the stuf on my car myself
@Diabloscampeones9 oil pressure units don't make a car not run, except in some chevys that tie the oil pressure into the fuel pump line so you don't run with low oil pressure. Watch my video "fixing a car that cranks but doesn't start up" and try all that. Scotty
thanks much scotty .. your a great mechanic and i pray it is myself ..
Quick and good fixes...all looks so easy when you do it, Scotty....I'm baffled at how we as customers get cheated by car guys...
Love the personality! Great video and just gives me one more idea as to what my issue could be. Thanks and hope you're still at it!
Great informative video, great personality. Had problem with my Transit van switch, changed it and it did the trick! Your other videos are good too! Keep up the good work!
it could be that, fix that first and pray it's not something else. Cause low oil pressure can be a weak oil pump, worn engine bearings, clogged oil passageways, and much much more.
@1ownjoo2 Texas gulf coast, it's either raining or 100 degrees outside. Scotty
@scottykilmer yeah scotty i am glad you never lie to us.... your like a giant knowledgeable book but with more vision and pictures to make it easier to enjoy.
either sending unit is bad giving false readings, or you have an oi pressure problem. Has nothing to do with their valve cover gasket job. so take it in and see what they say when testing the actual oil pressure with their gauges, and PRAY it's not internal engine wear.
@WhiteGravey harbor freight tools sells some great, inexpensive jacks. Scotty
Also these videos have the BEST, Quality of any mechanic videos
on the youtube net I think. I love it great detail and video always help! (: Not sure though if on a 1999 toyota solara 1mzfe engine If the oil pump is with the oil pan under there after taking it off.
oil pump is on the bottom front of that engine, you remove the timing belt and it's removed from the front
This guy does great videos seen mostly all hell yeah 👍
old age and a worn out engine will cause the oil to get too hot over time. anything from worn bearings to clogged oil passageways can do that.
Thank God I found this video. My oil is full yet the oil pressure light comes on then off every few minutes. I'm hoping this I'd the issue in my Mercury. Its 17 years old.
Dear frd, finally I got your video for very useful, again having problem in my car engine noise every three months once for reason may be oil pickup problem , after clean my oil pump having more dust and something after then replace new engine oil working well only three months so want to stop this problem anymore plz give me good idea
check to see if it's leaking oil now there, and make it tighter if so. If not, it's a bad unit
many things can cause no start, but normally dirty oil won't keep a car from starting, only a diesel can do that because they use oil pressure to run injectors. try my video "fixing a car that cranks but doesn't start up" for tips
