- We finally get the inverter up and running. We connect the batteries solar micro hydro and generator to provide our off grid.

Well done, good luck for the next winter freeze. I recommend that you should insulate the battery storage box as the batteries do not like being at low temperatures.
Thanks I did find exactly that last year so I will be insulating it while its warm this season
Yes very cool, free water heater, for days, thinking it's going too have work on the same principle as a boiler with a blow off valve at the top and then a second sand battery outside or in a shed before the water turns too steam
I am so excited about having a go with a sand battery. Because I have already thought about it before beginning the house I am considering building one under the floor of the house.
I would look to make the hole in the timber larger than the sheet metal hole for that generator exhaust so that no heat can transfer to the wood / burn. Possibly also add some kind of heat proof insulation between it and the wood.
Thanks, the hole in the timber was larger but only by 10mm or so, to make sure it didn't contact in any place but I will likely add some additional heat wrap to make sure

Thanks, we are only 2 days on it so far and it feels really unusual not to be draining the batteries fully twice a day but my wife and I keep mentioning how good it feels

Yourr face says it all, it lights up when the lights light up the workshop. Best place to have a fire engine side of the electrics and those batteries. But please get some decent fire extinguisher with all that wood around. Brilliant

Having decent power makes a huge difference 👍
so nice not having to run the generator all the time and the second freezer is a massive plus

Be careful I had a hyundai on my boat broke down within the first year I serviced it more then it needed and the returns policy was really complicated needed to send a video of the fault then send then sent it back at my cost then they turned around blaming me I had to fight for a refund I then replaced with a max speeding rods for half the price going strong 18 months now

I got the maxspeedingrods diesel heater and was very impressed with that but I didn't know they did a generator so I will definitely check it out now I know they do
Yeah mate it's the first time I used them the diesel heaters okay too hyundai was a petrol petrol 3500 watt massive thing I serviced it every50 hours runn time and the main head cracked after 150 hrs run time just over a year old they don't have service people they just tell you to record a video of the petrol leaking everywhere on your back deck and to send it back the battery swelled too.. just be really vigilant with it as a back up you need something worth it maxspeeding one I got is 3.3 kw and runs on eco for like 5 hours to 4 litres of petrol.. I have a 600 amp lithium 12 set up charges from 30 to full no problem on a can of e10 e5 I get a little better... I just subbed keep up good work..

Looking Good! You could have really wound us all up about that piece of red equipment below the SunSynk box - I was trying to work out if the shiny rails were some sort of sawmill system or perhaps a fancy CNC router, LOL to finding out it is your son's fire engine! 😆
yea I made it for him a couple of christmases ago. It does look like some kind of table saw and he wants to climb up now that the inverter is there I will have to remove the ladder
I'd suggest insulating your battery box, lifepo4 batteries won't charge below 0C. Lots of waste heat to be harvested from generators, at best diesel to electric conversion is 30% efficient, the rest is heat.

Love the budget hydropower, had many lessons, burntout wind turbines, none thermostat diesel heaters ( got the 1kw too 8kw, too change parameters passcode 1688 speed and output, cause it can get hot and plastic smelly) and mould
Dump load, sand battery, keep water hot for days
Wouldn't have known 20years ago I would have a solar water wind farm, vegetables next,

Congrats on making your electrical setup more powerful. I was also wondering if you'd be ensuring that your lithium iron phosphate batteries were warmed up above 0 C to ensure that they can safely charge. Does your battery pack have a low temperature disconnect for charging? If not, then charging when the battery is below that will damage the cells. You might consider making the dump load from the hydro warm up the utility room as well.
I have had a few people mention the low temperature issue so I will be looking into that asap. The dump load heater has a cable so that I can move it around rather than a fixed heater so I was hoping to move it where we need it at the time

Theirs an idea, using the the sand to hold heat in a electric floor.
Just watched (turbulent hydro) Belgian company, if you've got 1.5m drop and a nice flow river, they can create 5 too 15 kw, that's two electric cars, cooker, wielder the works. And it's premade they just make a concrete tank and drop the vortex turbine in place.

I have seen their turbines and plan on making one in a future video as we have the perfect place to trial it
Thinking the solar array angle is going to be more and the decline is going to be later, worked out the dates for cornwalls solar improvement not Scotland's !
A new solar array mount is on the to do list as I have another two panels to add to the system so I will have a closer look into the angles when I get to that.
Well that looks like a good system .that jenny is a beast for 1200 quid.
So glad to have enough output from it to know we can charge the batteries if the renewables go down

Your DC inputs need surge protection, they are not expensive and are required for warranty as per the install manual

Love your set up, however I'm a PC man, can you plug a monitor and keyboard in so you can see what's going on without having to squint at a small LED screen?
There is a wifi dongle that enables you to monitor it remotely so yea you could see it all on the main screen but I am not sure it includes everything that the mini screen does
I would say 20,000 watt pv and 20kwh battery and your shorted. Recommendation for battery is frogstar

Hi, just setting up our 16kw sunsynk inverter for our new micro hydro, very exciting. Did you populate the ' Advance- wind turbine ' settings on the inverter for the water turbine? and if so what did you populate it with...
Excellent! thats a really great inverter. Yes I just increased the amps on the wind turbine settings until the turbine and power output seemed balanced. It changes with the water pressure, I had to reduce the amp volt relationship today because the turbine was spinning too slowly due to less water being avaliable

may I ask why you put the Lifepo4 batteries in the un-heated side. They can not be charged in temperatures lower than 32F (0C)? I built a utility room for our batteries, inverter and water system and heated with a diesel heater so they will not freeze.
It was a space thing. My sons fire engine takes the whole side up and he is also likely to play with the battery box (even if we contain it he will play with the cables). Its not permenantly sited though we will be increasing the number of batteries we have soon so will look at a better place when we do

Lightweight, high frequency inverters are toys. They don't even have an output transformer to provide galvanic isolation. No thanks, not safe.

My only suggestion would be to use two inverters, one for solar and one for hydro. That way if you lose an inverter you can still get power and keep your batteries charged while a replacement turns up,
that's a great suggestion, as soon as we have enough cash we will look into adding some redundancy
Is your muffler still to close to the osb panel as it is flammable??
I cut a bigger hole in the OSB than the metal so that there was an air gap around the exhaust. Do you think its still at risk?
You'll never get proper power out of that lightweight, low surge, short lived high frequency, transformerless inverter. You should have installed a low frequency, transformer based inverter.
I have heard from others that low frequency installer is a preferred option but we have more power than we need every day so we are happy with our set up

The high frequency are easy to setup and easy to get you started. But the low frequency inverters are built like tanks . Victron now do an all in one low frequency inverter, mppt, charger 👍
@@offgridscotland my old victron multiplus inverter charger 3000 watt, 70amp Ac charger weighs around 15kg. My hybrid inverter 3800watt 48v 80amp mppt weight is around 7kg
