My college music professor summed it up greatly when teaching us composition. Theory especially in class is like the speed limit when learning to drive. Listen to the rules and don’t stray too much from technique. But when you get your license - it’s okay to break the rules and go 5 over sometimes 😂

You know I refused to learn any theory or songs from others for near enough 10 years other than maybe the odd riff/lick/solo here and there.
Was just totally obsessed with having a "uncorrupted" sound purely by ear through trial and error...
Got into theory around December this year.....

It sorta goes out of my head when playing, so I still just go by what I like this sound of... Although having learned just alot of theory in the past year, my "repertoire" has vastly improved.. whether for better or worse hard to say given what I want to make, but so far the benefits seem to outweigh any potential negatives
And honestly for making like whole tracks and what not, been doing a bit of experimenting with that kinda thing lately (sorta, expanding upon improvisations with extra guitars and bass etc) it's immensely useful.. just brilliantly, I can basically improvise until Im playing something I like, record that.. then it's really easy do the accompanying pieces because it's sort of mapped out for you from wherever you find yourself.
It's taken a decade to come round lol

Are you recording on an iPhone? In that case, you know there is a setting to turn off the mirroring of the front camera that Apple set to default? I can not even understand why they did that. It is just stupid. But I guess, 80% of the population just run with the default, whether it is internet browser or what not, so I believe they are measuring something. Call Apple, I do not care
