Grapplers are characters who excel in throwing. While every character is capable of a standard grab, Grapplers have access to some of the best Command Grabs in the game, with wide range, high damage, good oki, or a combination of the three. I think Broly fits under this definition. The reason grabs in fighterz is weaker then in most games is probably the possibility of getting a kill off of it. Hell characters can do that, but if they added 20-40% grabs that would make ToD's a lot more common Edit: Like someone said in the replies, android 16 is definitely a grappler as well. Like most of the big guy's move set are grabs. Ex: 236L-H, 214L-H, j.236L-H, j.214L-H, and his level 3.
They also forget that this game has assistance so having a powerful grip would be the most broken since even a simple grip can make you TOD in different circumstances.
I feel like the EX grab feels a little bit more like a normal command grab but I agree the light version is essentially a true throw while dragon rush is not a "throw" but more of a techable universal command grab.
I get what you're saying, but it still feels a little silly to say that the grab specialists in FighterZ aren't the game's "Grapplers" Great video, though! Love this game's weird and awesome relationship with pressure
On my main DBFZ team everyone has a throw. Super Baby 2 has a disgusting air grab and tick throw, Goku black has a full screen grab that can be comboed off of, and Z Broly well... He's Broly.
something you didnt mention that i wish you did is the fact that Broly is so much "not a grappler" that he was the best zoner in the game at some point in time in the meta. His Ki Blasts are not only big and fast but are aimable. Although you csn superdash through them, Broly can just react and 2H your superdash. His 236S, while not being fast, countera any superdashes which also helped his zoning. Hell, his 214S, a move given to him to help him not get zoned, helped HIM zone. Broly is just such a weird grappler, like id go as far to say that baseku is a better definition for grappler than Broly.
@@Kyasutaaummmm you sure you updated the game?? Kid Buu is far from meta. Even further than Z Broly. Who is def not meta any more. He's good, but so is almost everyone.
Neat video, less so in that i agree with it because i don't really think an archetype working differently from usual in one game makes it not that archetype (though putting a dbfz zoner or grappler into any other game would probably make them not that archetype), more so because people don't often talk about how some games, including dbfz, just handle archetypes in a different way and this video is exactly that
Fighterz is mostly built around versatility and how multiple characters have certain traits that benefit each other so It would make sense that Broly isn't a grappler because he needs this versatility otherwise he would be easy to play around. (By versatility i mean universal options. Superdash, Dragon Rush, Reflect, Overhead M, and technical stuff like knockdowns. The reason why he has these grabs is for versatility, thus why he doesnt seem like a grappler.(If you need a grappler to refer to, try android 16.) (To summarize for people who dont wanna read: Fighterz has so much versatility that grabs are mostly used as a blockstun extender.) [I would go on a rant but I would need a whole ass video to explain that]
It's a good point, I'd say it's weirdly presented to call the thesis of it "yeah these aren't grapplers", but hey, I understand you gotta put a hotter-sounding version of your take in the title to get views. Anyways, you make a good and interesting point about the strength of throws in these games.
I mean Z Broly is centered around grapples, and having meter to get more damage, when a Broly has meter he's even a bigger threat because the EX grab can be comboed into, and not to mention ARMOR
Dbfz is a one archetype game. Rushdown. While every character plays mostly different. Everyone is still a variation of Rushdown. Master Roshi? Gimmick Rushdown. Broly DBS? Brutalist Rushdown. Android 16? Grappler Rushdown. Even cases with zoners aka Frieza. His zone sucks but the combos and mixup with him are wild.
FighterZ in General is weird compared to other Fighting games: ToD's are pretty uncommon due to Damage Proration, and that does require a lot of Resources too. A character like an standard grappler on DBFZ just cannot work, as it basically becomes a ToD machine but it would be cursed with an Ass of an Neutral, due to how DBFZ is structured. Everyone has ranged options in one way or another, like Ki Blasts, long ranged moves, and even most assists, and the "Lariats" (+reflect-proof moves) There is Superdash, yeah, but everyone can beat Superdash with 2H (the generalized anti-air), or a well timed jump attack, which also leads into getting combo'd. This would also make it be very specific for team builds, because he would Definitively be locked to Anchor usage unless you want to die, and require great blockstun assists to approach so.
You give very little attention to the fact you can combo off of heavy or medium throws and I feel like it kind of negates the point of the video, why do you not eat the grab? because Broly can extend and get full combo with a heavy version of the grab?
You can combo off of those but that doesn't really argue against anything in the video because M throw is reactable (longer startup, and that was the problem with dragon rush as the video explained) and H throw has the same startup as M but is also worth meter
As someone who was introduced to fighting games through DBFZ, I actually hate how grabs are handled in most others. The idea that a character can win after landing the same move three times just feels so off to me, unless that is the point of the game. A game centered around having low health and needed to play with good spacing can excel with grapplers, but there's a good reason why they feel out of place is combo heavy games.
@@BlazeK9 Do you feel the need to put others down because no one loves you or is it that you are just not a good person. Either way, no one respects you. Also yeah, way too difficult lol.

Guys I think arguing about whether or not Broly is a "grappler" is missing the forest for the trees. The point is that he differs from traditional grapplers significantly, and that's interesting to talk about
Never really thought of Z!Broly as the grappler architype. Actually he's more of a tank than he is a grappler, even if he has grabby moves. He can also zone with his neutral special attack. I think of Android #16 if anything as the grappler.
I'd say another reason DBFZ's grapplers don't work like other grapplers is that the motion inputs for all characters are either a quarter circle forward or quarter circle back and making a command throw on it's own do the same damage as something like a SPD would be broken.
There can be more than one grappler in a game. The most well known are S Broly and Z Broly, 16 is also a grappler but not many people use him simply because Grabbing is all he has, on top of that his grabs are slow.
