Interestingly they have found fingerlimes seem to have some genetic based resistance to the citrus greening issue you have over there, it might do very well for you compared to other citrus :)

I've lived in Queensland 35 years and had never heard of this plant until about 2 years ago. And then it took me almost a year until I could find anyone selling the plant and not simply the fruit.
southurnstar are you growing them now? There are a heap of cultivars available now days but I can only go off second hand info for many of them.
@@PracticalPrimate Yes I bought a young tree last year. I haven't gotten fruit off of it yet but I'm not expecting to for at least another year yet. I found out that my neighbor has 3 of them and they love the fruit. I have to drive 2hrs from my place to cabulture to find the person selling the plant. I'm looking forward to getting fruit for the 1st time.
I've found that for a native plant they aren't widely known about outside of chef circles.

Great little video. will have to remember the advice as far as over feeding. I have one growing in a pot in my little courtyard where I live. have had it just over a year, and its flowering for the first time. absolutely covered in flowers despite its small size still. ( I'ts just over a metre high ) the tree seems to be doing ok where I live in S.A. not far from the Barossa despite the cool winters we can get here, though it is in a sheltered part of my yard. looking forward to actually trying the fruit once it grows and ripens this year.

@@beans3837 Mine are nice. they have a slightly sweet, yet still very citrus/lemon taste, but not exactly like that, its hard to describe. the little pearls are sort of crisp to chew, and pop in your mouth.

I know im a bit late to the game, but i just started a couple of finger limes. Im growing in pots on my front porch. Im in Ga. USA. I really wish i could find the darker reds. I love sweet fruits. ❤

Can I grow them in Connecticut if not can I use a heat lamp?
I have purchased two from a garden centre in Cardiff UK In 2018 summer time. One has had three fruits which in about 3-4 months when they fallen were dry inside. This year same three has another three fruits in the summer time and they look bigger and softer now in August! Also the three has another 14-18 small newish fruits from later flowering . I raise them in pots and used fertiliser. They are not so big. My question is: are those threes suitable for UK weather? Not the hottest not the coldest.

I am not familiar with the UK other than that it is a lot cooler than here. In general, if you can grow other citrus then you can grow finger limes. If its a bit cold for citrus there you could still grow them in a pot and just protect them during the winter months (as it sounds like you are doing). Dry fruit can be a result of many things, too cold, not enough water etc. I hope you have more luck with this next crop!

Can you grow finger limes from the internal caviar in the seed ?
Hi Shannen, the caviar are the juice vesicles and won’t grow. There are actual seeds just like other citrus that you need to plant if you want to grow one from seed. Most commercially grown fruit don’t have many or any seeds though and home grown fruit could have been pollinated by any nearby citrus so it is a bit of a gamble. I hope that helps :)
Can these be grown in the Central Valley of California? Our weather is r pretty hot in Spring and Summer..I have tasted these...and I love them.

Really depends on your soil Matt, here trifoliata is the most common rootstock but dwarf trees on flying dragon are also available. I like trifoliata for here.

Look up US citrus. Not everyone will ship to every state. I finally found these guys to ship to Texas. We apparently have very strict citrus import laws.

Being a citrus it has a decent vitamin c content but don’t know beyond that sorry.

TropoCal you put seeds in a plastic container you take the top of after 1 week . Thats it 90% of my seeds grew . BTW make sure the container is very humid .

TropoCal Abel gave you good info. General citrus propagation info applies to finger limes (I just do them in normal pots and keep warm and moist). Most farmers try to avoid seeds (for fruit/citrus caviar quality) by growing only one cultivar etc so not surprised to hear you only found one. I’ll do a citrus propagation video but because mine is a mixed orchard, my finger like seeds would probably produce hybrids!

Sure do :) when grafted on trifoliata (in particular flying dragon) rootstock the tree will be dwarfed.

Honest I really suggest grafted trees (mentioned in the vid) as seedlings are so variable (and usually not as good as a propagated cultivar. I have videos on grafting bu will do one for citrus at some stage. All the best.
