Slow Creek

- It may seem slow, but we are actually making great progress on Slough Creek. We still have plenty to do but the main quests and functionality are working well. Tommi and George have spent countless hours playing, calibrating, and tweaking to get Slough Creek ready for the next levels of testing. Currently we have a small group of our core beta testers intensively playing the game, finding bugs, and making suggestions. It’s exciting (and terrifying) to finally reveal Slough Creek to others and we are happy to hear they say it is fun to play!
Why don’t we share release dates? Well, we don’t have to! And we don’t want to put that kind of pressure on our team. Unlike games that have funders requiring official release dates, which inevitably mean crazy crunch time to meet that promise (or miss the date and then make everyone mad), we are free to just keep working and release things when they are ready. We appreciate everyone’s patience and appreciate you following our progress and cheering us on. Slough Creek is coming!
_______________
WolfQuest: Anniversary Edition is available now for PC/Mac on Steam and itch.io, as Early Access. The game currently includes Episode 1: Amethyst Mountain, Lost River: Classic, and multiplayer mode in both maps. Slough Creek is in development! The mobile version will come after the game (including Slough Creek) is completed on PC/Mac platforms. The next episode, Tower Fall (DLC) will follow. We do not announce specific release dates. We will release them when they are ready!
It may be "Slow Creek" now, but it's gonna be renamed "Worth The Wait Creek" when it's fully released, trust me.
Indeed
Its gonna be amazing they are doing such a good job! The fact that the game is taking almost over 3 years longer than what they expected jaut goes to show that they are working really hard on it.
Lol love it😂
You have a awsomw talent, and I love your game!
Yeah they need money money and more money
"Why don’t we share release dates? Well, we don’t have to!"
Well said wolfquest! well said!
I somehow don't find that very amusing. Maybe it's just me, maybe it's not. But it's not amusing. They could've left out saying that.
@@cinemacrusade3163 Well they really don't have too, it sets a deadline and can make things stressful. It's better if they just make a joke of it instead of giving promises they can't make.
@@cinemacrusade3163 It's most likely just you, lol. Deadlines just put stress on developers. It's better for everyone involved if they take their time and enjoy the process as much as possible. It's just a fact, they don't have to do it.
@@83uwb I like them but not having a date can also lead to laziness if they have nothing to work towards
@@teacoon6399 That just depends on the developers. I know I myself would definitely be like that, but I know people who have incredible drive to really get something done even without having to. If they feel a deadline would pressure them too much, then that's how it is. It's not for any of us to judge.
Personally, I too appreciate that you guys aren't bound to some high-end company contract or publisher. I find more peace in mind getting updates like these weekly, knowing that the game is underway and that the development is running smoothly than I do from once-a-year game trailers from big company or game team titles throwing out release dates and early promises while also rushing their workers to the point of inefficiency.
You guys are what make Wolfquest, Wolfquest.
So much respect for the WolfQuest team here. Putting people through crunch is terrible, and I can't imagine the stress it would induce especially in this godawful year. These updates are lovely, and the game will eventually be so amazing to play I am sure. Keep up the amazing work
Exactly! I was thinking the same thing when they said they were fortunate to not have to quicklt hurry up the game.
I agree. I love the wonderful team that is pushing through these rough times and respect that they are not putting anyone in a crunch. They are amazing and I give them my full support!😁😁
With some game development teams I'd be nervous about the fact there's no release date. But with you guys it's a different story. You've shown us just how much dedication and heart you have for this game. That you don't just care about your customers, but your own team and their well being. No matter how long it takes for it to be done, it will be well worth the wait! ♥️✌️
You said it! Can’t wait to see pups and the new landscape!
The pups: _full on food_
The mate: eat
Pup: but mom I-
The mate: *EAT*
Lol.

That's how my aunt is, lol. You eat the food she made whether you want it or not. 😂

you just described me in the park finding a stick and wanting to take home
*Insert Yoda Seagull Stop It Now song from A Bad Lip Reading here*
Omg i love it lol
Move out of the way Grandpa!!!
I've said it many times before and I'm sure I'll say it many times again, but take as much time as you need to get this game done! I have so much respect for your choice to prioritize your health and the health of your team over pushing the game to a fast release-- and even the game itself in that regard, because I know most of us would rather see a polished, finished game that comes out in its own time than one that was rushed and pushed out in a partially complete state. You guys are doing an absolutely phenomenal job with the game, and the love and care you're putting into it really shows. It's incredible to see how long the game has stuck around, and that's very much because of how much passion has gone into it! I don't think anyone in 2007 would have predicted how far this game would come, yet here we are in 2020 and it's amazing what you guys have done with it. You're truly doing a fantastic job, and although I and many others are excited to see the new episode hit its public release, these things take time, and for everyones' sake, I wholeheartedly commend you for taking the time you need to finish it well and without pushing anyone past their limits in the process.
EEp! JaYyYyyyYy HI!
Couldn't have said it better myself.
Yeah devs, do NOT overwork urselves:)
^Sees wolf pups^
*Eagle Flashbacks* O-O
It's actually a Golden Eagle that attacks the pups
@@Lizuma no it's a eagle
lol
@@mmm77171 Yeah, its confirmed by WolfQuest to be a Golden Eagle.
Lol
Here's an idea: The weather should effect the amount of prey active. Also, maybe if it were scarier weather the pups would hide near the den? If it snowed heavily, the pups would huddle near you for warmth. The snow would stick to the floor for a few game days. I know it's alot, I was bored. 😳
That’s a really cool idea! If they were to add something like that it would be a nice touch. Maybe something they could ponder over for a future update to slough creek?
Yes! Thank you! That is also a brilliant idea!
I have an idea on something you could add, maybe something like a family tree? It would be really useful for rp and such. Anyways, nice job so far! I’m super excited for the full game. But that’s awhile away so take your time!! ☺️
That would be awesome
That would be so cool
I feel like something like that won’t be implemented until the whole game is completed and we can play until our wolf eventually dies of old age
@@toastymouse8230 idk if you would want your wolf to die, like what if you really like the stats? I doubt they would make your wolf die anyways
@@toastymouse8230 ngl I don’t see why they would make it so that our wolves die of old age? And I really don’t see why they would even need to die in order to implement a family tree function?
Early! Can’t wait for WQ3 And all the lil puppers running about
Edit: I’m honesty not bothered about how long this game takes because it will be well worth the wait. It’s the best wolf game out there and I’ve got a feeling will forever hold the title.
THE PUPPERS!!!
@@August_loves_rats lol
I got so many wolves with mates ready to have pups I even made me in a wolf path and I have a mate and I can’t wait to have puppies they will be so adorable!!!
@@blacktea5731 That's nice.
I love how everyone is being so patient for the game to be complete! And the pups look so good, cute and of course realistic! This game is so amazing and beautiful, and I've even gotten my younger family members to play it! (Which they can't stop doing now :3) Keep it up WolfQuest Team! And of course to everyone out there, Happy Howloween!!
(Edit) This is the first time I've ever gotten this many likes on one of my comments. Thank you so much everyone! It means a lot :3
I have been through every horror game, every simulator, every survival, every game on steam. Yet.. this, this is a whole new level of cute and beautiful, alright I’ll just get to my point, I’ll take your entire stock
Yes I will take the whole stock
I seriously can't believe how this is all just going to be a free update for us. So much time and effort has been put in and I can't wait. Take your time, this has been one of the things I look forward to every week.
OMG!!! I haven’t played WQ in a decade!! I remember when I got to the end and I got the ol message saying “we will be continuing this game after its updated, but for now thank you so much for playing!!” And haven’t played since then. I’m so excited to buy it and redownload it, it will be a fun nostalgic experience. Thank you WQ team for still making adorable updates on this game and keeping it alive! ❤️💕
Welcome back!
if we could start out our game as pups in the far future, I think that would be really cool! Learning how to play with your siblings and then how to hunt from your parents, then growing into a dispersal and starting the story from there!
I really hope this eventually becomes a thing. That way you get to experience the whole life cycle of a wolf
ive been following this for two years, i believe, now! and i get more and more hyped every video. keep up the great work its looking gorgeous :D
I've also been watching for 2 years, and I got to say to improvements they have made are amazing. I loved the old game too but, they have done such a good job so far are the new game.
@@allycat7598 yeah!! ive been playing the game for a little over five years i believe, and its really crazy how much improvement and work has gone into the development of it!! following the wolfquest three videos has been awesome :)
Ah finally. Another TOH fan.

One word: AWWWWEEE!!! (those pup noises omg)
Yes the puppies have beautiful sounds I’m crying xD
@@blacktea5731 raising these little guys will be the only reason I’m ever a parent
I have a suggestion for HUD/UI you may like and use: allow us to know which puppy has lower health directly from the UI, letting us see their names next to the little paw that shows their health. It can be disabled on the "Hide Name" setting that the game already has!
That would be nice
A delayed game is better than a bad or mediocre game after all. Wolfquest is a pretty ambitious game when you think about it. There are very few games like it, which means you'll have to come up with all the concepts yourself and implement it properly into the game. Not games like this require good AI and AI is one of the hardest things about game development. The health of the devs is also very important too. So I am more than willing to wait however long it takes.
Besides, I need to get a better PC anyway. So it's not like I have much of a choice.
One thing I notice about this and like:
THE PUPS ACTUALLY STAY STILL WHEN THEY LAY DOWN.
Yay. I can make some possible music vids with pups in the future.
(I mean of course they don’t always stay still). But they’re more still than their constant moving in 2.7).
Can’t wait XD.
I will subscribe to you if you do make music videos in the future with them and also for other things
Love it!! Thank you for working so hard! Me and MANY others are enjoying this!! The fact that this game is so amazing is unreal! You guys have worked so hard for such an amazing game! Although it may take a while to tweak and create parts of this game, you guys have always made absolutely stunning results!

Will the limpy leg be added back into the game?
As a disabled person it made me very happy to see as an option for my character so im hoping you add it again! :)
Ive been hoping for this too! My main wolf from 2.7 has it
@@Lizuma yessss me too! I hope we get it again!
I had asked this months ago and apparently it will be it just takes time to animate it and stuff so we have to wait
@@newtglader8416 ohhh thats awesome!
The limp option takes so many animations that we have put it on the back burner for now.
I can’t get over how cute the pups are
Ive been playing since 2.5, I've watched this game grow. I even met my best friend on 2.7. This game will always hold a special place in my heart.
This game taught me English 10 years ago, hahah. Pretty much the first game I've played by myself. Ah the nostalgia. And so many memories
Yes it's so close.
To be honest, one of the things I love about this game is the fact that you care about your team and the quality of the game very much. I think not having a release date is a wonderful idea, and I hope this team continues to be amazing. Thank you. :)
I can already hear my laptop screaming at me
same.
Me to(tho it's technically my dad's,he just let's me play wq for like a hour on weekends)
I've played Wolf Quest since 2008. I grew up with it! I've always loved wolves and Wolf Quest helped me learn much about their behavior. I'll always be proud to support a game that promotes learning and conservation.
Keep up the great work! Your team's health is more important than a specific deadline.
Whats unique and cool about this game is that other games when an update comes out you check out all the stuff and you are bored, and ready for the next update, but about this game is the stuff that's added never stops ending, such as multiplayer, there's never ending fun, and when I play in multiplayer i'm not thinking about the pups, but i'm just happy playing on multiplayer! Just to let you know, i'm really grateful for this game, and not many games are like this where you play as an animal, and there's never ending adventure, but that's the opposite for this game, so i'm really happy, thank you for creating this game, and for the people who are working on it! ^^
I believe since you do a dev blog, tat is what makes people less anxious about how the game is coming along as they can see proof here. Its looking amazing btw! Happy Halloween!!
Happy HOWLoween! 🎃🐺
0:11 pretty sure I broke the sound barrier with how loud I squealed at that little pup running towards the left!
Also I really admire you for not putting pressure on your team with crunch time, that's really good and healthy. I'll wait however long I have to for the release because I know it'll be worth it :D
Can you put in sent rolling in the game? Sent rolling is when the predator rolls in mud to disguise its sent so when hunting the predator does not get your sent for a while. If you installed that it would be awesome. If you did not, then it's fine as well. Just trying to help.
the original release of slough creek was absolutely revolutionary it completely changed what wolfquest was. the new slough creek is absolutely amazing i cant wait for the rest of the saga
I'd be willing to wait YEARS to play the game if it means you guys get to take your time and not have to stress about it! It's clear you guys care about what you're creating, and as far as I'm concerned, having fun with it is more important than doing it quickly. Keep up the great work! I absolutely LOVE that you guys are doing the right thing! Companies shouldn't force their workers into "crunch" time, that's cruel and unesessary! THANK YOU for taking your time and working at a reasonable pace! That's what everyone should do, but too many people are motivated purely by profit. I would GLADLY wait years to play a game I want if it means the people making it can take their time and not overwork and stress themselves! Especially during a pandemic! You guys deserve as much time as you need! Take all the time you need, because it'll be worth it!
Wow! I discovered wolfquest when I was in maybe 4th grade, and now I have graduated highschool. I am beyond joyful the game is still running and updated. Absolutley awesome. Thankyou wolfquest team! You're amazing! ❤

OH MY GODDD IM SO EXCITED!! When only wq 2.7 was out, I played it constantly. But one time something happened and I lost all my progress. I was too young to mail you about it but I worked really hard to get those 30000 or something points back, and then, this came out and I was like??? Wow??? I love this???? I’m so just???? Wow. I have always been amazed on how people do games and you guys posting videos about the progress is just - thank you. I have had and is currently having a tough time and this might sound cheesy but wolfquest have honestly helped me a lot to ignore and get some rest from what’s happening in my life. I'm early! Yay! In any case; so excited for Slough Creek and it already looks like it's going to be amazing. Will definitely be practicing hunting to prepare for having hungry little mouths to feed, but luckily I have some experience from Shelter 2 XD
Little question for anyone: WQ team or just commenters: how many of you just like to find a nice spot and lay down to simply relax and enjoy the atmosphere and sounds of the game?
I'm probably going to end up doing so around the den a lot when not hunting or doing territory X3
We get a lot of enjoyment just being in the WQ environment.
@@WolfQuestGame honestly, yall are my favourite developers. you keep your community going, you're honest, and overall just amazing for working this hard. you're absolutely breathtaking, wolfquest team, keep up the good work. :)
I'm very thankful for all the efforts that have been put into this hard working game. Even if we'll have to wait years longer, it's better to have a well established game rather than to have the game finally released but finds many errors and bugs that aren't dealt with due to being rushed.
Ah it's looking absolutely fantastic so far! I'm going to be ecstatic when Slough Creek finally releases. Take your time and keep up the excellent work! :]
This is the major thing that makes me so happy to work with WolfQuest testing: no crunch. We live in a quick service world where stuff always has to be made far faster than is often imaginable, from food to film to games. There are a number of games that were crippled because of those holiday release deadlines, and some games I am wary of touching at all no matter how good they are due to the reveal of just how many crunch hours were put in leading up to its release. The fact that you guys don't do that and truly take your time to make the game what it can finally be is phenomenal and it's a privilege to watch it reach that point as well as help out with it.
We so appreciate all your hard work!!
I have been playing this game since a friend introduced it to me in 2008, and it jumpstarted a fascination with wolves that has given me so much appreciation for this world. When I found out that Wolfquest was being remade I was over the moon with excitement. And let me tell you, it has been so amazing to see the progress and development over the years. I have no problem waiting, because not only do I know that this game is loved by the community, but also by the developers. I can see the amount of care you have for this game, and I am willing to wait for however long it takes. I know that the end product will be well worth it. Take care everybody!
The Halloween decorations fit the lost river so well! You guys did a great job making them

It would fill me with joy if I saw little turkeys wandering around in the game, that would be awesome! Nice job you guys.
Turkeys aren't really found in Yellowstone. Sandhill cranes are pretty cool though. Maybe someday we can add more ambient wildlife.
@@WolfQuestGame yeah, that’d be nice!
You guys have made incredible progress since the beginning, take the time needed after all, a healthier time management when working (especially on screens) will lead to a stronger motive of wanting to get up and do that and it’ll be more productive to make the game best as possible! We learn from our mistakes through trial and error, and achieve many things once we’ve done that. This’ll be worth the wait. I find it very responsible and kind that you and you’re team take the time to rest and tend to other things, cause that what makes all of you so productive when working and what leads the game to becoming the best it can be! I also find it very good that you guys aren’t setting an exact release date for the game, since this prevents people from getting their hopes up, and like you said when creating something for the very first time ever, you don’t know how things are going to play out during the process, so take the time needed to tend to the development, cause in the end that’s what makes every little piece of the finish product and the process all the more enjoyable for the players and you and the team! I know this game is gonna be absolutely amazing when finished and totally worth the wait! 💕☺️🐾
This is going to be amazing I can not wait!! You guys are doing such an amazing job on making everything fun and exciting for everyone to play.
Thank you Wolfquest team, you're amazing!
The new pups are so cute and well animated, I love them!
The pup interactions look so good! Like they are already doing dominant /submissive gestures to one another, and the way they play ... very nice! They really seem like they are coming to life!
Also, it is great that the team can work without the preassure a lot of other studios have. I gladly change that for a set release date.
Those pups are so cute!!! I could wait forever for WQ to release as you guys do an increasingly awesome job!!!
I love it how the game is evolving by step by step and I can’t wait to see the map the pups mostly everything.

this is amazing, I'd love if we could continue playing after the episode ends, like choosing to play as one of the pups and carrying on the legacy, maybe even have a family tree somewhere to see how far you've come
The music at the beginning of the video is really cool!
Awwwww the puppies are really cute!! My heart melted...💕
I really love the WolfQuest developers. They work so hard for this game, and, as he said in the video, the only reason they work is for us. They could have slacked for a very long time. They have no reason to work as much as they do, besides simply wanting to make us this amazing game. And the game really is fantastic. It’s the highest quality out there, with all the work that’s put into it. Thanks guys

I love you guys! Played 2.7 multiple times and loved it. Excited!
It’s hard to believe 2.7 was 5 years ago! The amount of work put into this game is amazing. I’m so excited for the full release!
I have a high patience level, and I don't think Maple (My wolf) and Sunrise (Maple's sister on another save file I made) are ready to have pups yet, Sunrise still needs to find a mate and then learn about his personality and if he will be a good father, and Maple still needs to think of ways to hunt Bison and Moose as a last resort if there are no deer, elk and rabbits around. And meanwhile my mind is hoping that all the pups will survive and not get snatched by pup predators or drown when the Slough Creek episode comes out. *Dying because of how cute the wolf pups are*
I love that wolfquest cares so much about their team! And slough creek is looking amazing! I'm so excited.
You did good with the wolf pups and slow creek 👏🏾.
