Thank you for another excellent informative video. I especially appreciate the discussion of Chinese aesthetics and feel this is a underappreciated aspect of Chinese martial arts in the West and I look forward to learning more in future videos.

Your demonstration of Bagua fist reminds of Gao style whipping palm. I had never thought of this. You opened my eyes to different use of our tian gan and ji ben gong.

    Hi Master Yang,
Very good video with clear and directly actionable lessons in there!
I tried to think a bit about why in tai chi uses the "empty-inside strong inside" fist you mentioned. After thinking (briefly) about it, it seems in tai chi many closed fist techniques involve pushing/striking with the forearm or maybe even with the back of the fist (e.g. single whip) whereas Xing Yi a lot of techniques (for instance beng, fire) involve strikes with the front of the fist/knuckles. I'm not sure if this interpretation is correct and if it is related with the correct fist structure for both styles, but I thought maybe this would be a possibility. I also thought maybe the "empty inside" fist in tai chi facilitates silk reeling/adjusting pressure on the various locations in the first during drilling motions in tai chi. Would that be a correct line or thinking, or are there other reasons why tai chi rely on this specific fist formation?
    Thanks,
    Fred

Yes, I agree with you regarding the fist formation for a better silk reeling energy. Thanks.

Dear Master Yang, Your description of the Tai Chi Fist helped me very much! Now I understand why the fist of my teacher Zhang Xiao Ping, look so solid and compact compared to the loose fists all his students (including me, til I saw your video) do. Thank you so much for all your effort in making these wonderful videos. I am looking forward to all of your future videos. Each single one I saw opend up my eyes to a new and more complete understanding of Tai Chi, Hsing I and also Baqua. Thank´s Thomas

What prevents finger bones to break from the impact of the fist in the Tai Chi fist since they are not firmly couched in palm and seem to rely on hand strenght to take the power of the impact?

The fist should be solid enough to again a hard subject, not only the formation of a fist. Thanks.

I really enjoyed watching this particular video a few times.
Did you ever manage to produce a video regarding the whipping power and other ways of generating striking power? If so what is the link? Thanks.

I made a live fist and did hidden thrust punch a few times. As expected live fist has better energy flow. But silk reeling into my hand while punching was too much for my skilllevel.

This was really helpful and informative thank you :) It is very interesting learning about the different aesthetics.
I have a question about the concept of 'dim mak'/点穴/点脉 which I am interested in, but seems to be very controversial in the western world, could you maybe give more information about it's origin/ideas etc, and 'judges pen'.
P.S Luckily winter in the U.K is not as harsh as in Canada haha
