Good review , but prs should've stuck with the locking tuners that I have on my singlecut . The vintage tuners are a nice touch though . That being said , it's the first thing I would replace .

@@agufish I was gonna go this year and this was my first one 😤😤. Next year tho. I live in Maryland and have met PRS and he's such a great guy. Crazy but a genius, always wanting to push the guitar to its limits. I've gone to the factory and had a tour and it was magical.
Very refreshing to see a PRS review done with some metal tones, I’ve been wanting to buy one but literally every single review is done with a clean blues tone
I just received my SE 245 last week. The fret ends are baby butt smooth right out of the box and it's a joy to play. Definitely will buy a higher end model later.
Had an early 2000's McCarty soapbar. Cool. But I paid $1200 for what I assume was a floor model. S2 didn't even exist. SE's were still made in Korea and were like $300 cheaper and kinda...better! And bring back the SE One and korina One. But don't even bother if you're gonna charge more than $500 unless it has locking tuners, NICE gigbag, upgraded adjustable bridge, and a GraphTech nut at least. Wasn't even that long ago before the lines were so blurred between all the tiers, like they are now. And, cmon PRS...put locking tuners on them! They even make them in a vintage style, like this McCarty has now if that's the issue. There are still a few models that hit the right features and price point, but mainly it's just a clusterfrog. That being said, I've owned at least a dozen PRS and my current main is a 1994 CE 24. I like them, but they are kinda putting me off lately with some of these decisions & issues, like a $1200 Chinese made SE hollowbody, not to mention the disappointing finishes on them. Dull at best, but I just think they're straight up ugly...that charcoal looking one isn't bad...but everything I have is black! I want some nice color! Throw some nice bright stains on some of them. A nice royal blue, amber, something like that. Not ashtray burst! There are almost perfect Korean and even USA brands making better guitar's at that price. Some of those Korean factories make substantially better guitars than even Gibson and Fender. They just do now.
I been interested in learning the guitar, after hours of researching everything there is to know, I stumbled upon this video and I honestly feel I have a calling to really give this a try ! This is the exact sound I want to play and I’m so excited to keep learning and have a passion for this instrument ✨
Mmh. Not a big fan of the S2. Cheap hardware at such a price point is not amazing value. The neck also feels somehow cheap when I tried one. For a really good price for money I would advise everyone to try out the PRS CEs. Yeah they are more expensive but still attainable and just sooooo much better than S2.
Hey guys, hijacking the comments here to say I’m now taking on new clients! If you need any mixing, mastering, reamping, or custom backing track work done, hit me up at lkramer@razorball.net
Good price point. $200 more expensive than a LP Studio $300 cheaper than a LP Classic I don’t particularly like the fretboard Rad or the flat top but that finish options and bridge/tailpiece hardware is mint!
Not a huge fan of the Horizon tbh, especially for demos. I think it really colors the sound of the pickup so we're hearing more of the pedal characteristics in every guitar, not the actual pickups.
I've got an S2 singlecut standard satin whatever the heck and it's the best guitar I've ever owned and I love it to death. Simple, mean, awesome, and man does that neck feel wonderful. One of those guitars you pick up and feel inspired every time. At least for me
I really want one of these but I can’t get out of my head the comparison that Phil McKnight did to the Core 594. The difference in clarity of the Core pickups vs the S2 was almost shocking. Annoying to spend $1700 and then feel like you need to immediately swap out the pickups - and not because they are in an output range that doesn’t suit you, but because you just think they are just BLAH. Going to wait a year until there are more for sale used.
I know your comment is two years old, but since january 2024 the S2 line had a massive revamp. Overall wood selection is much better than the SE, the pickups and all other electronics are the exact same as the ones used on their USA Core line (4000 dollars plus guitars). Now the S2 has all the pedigree it needed, these guitars always had insane high quality build and finishes, but the electronics were their weak point... NO MORE! Putting quality control, craftsmanship and attention to detail into consideration, PRS smokes both Fender and Gibson.
I love PRS and have owned 3 cores since the late 90's and own two newer S2's but for some unknown reason they just don't have THAT thing like Gibsons do. I don't know why. I've tried to love them for 25 years but...I don't get it. They have all of the elements nailed but the mojo and the sound is just not there on recordings. Thankfully, Gibson's quality in the last few years has really improved and they are back to give PRS some competition.
I was quite disappointed in the neck profile. Not nearly as thick and chunky as "Pattern Vintage" leads one to believe. Their Wide Fat neck profile is much better. (Actually thick and chunky)
I have an S2 in dark cherry sunburst. Take a look because those are beautiful! The S2 line has a wide variety of colors and finishes! Yes, they all meet that quality!

I recently bought this model in McCarty Sunburst,it's a killer guitar, the tone and variation of tones are superb,it's a chunkier type neck but the playability is very good and after owning 6 Les Paul's over a long time I can honestly say that this guitar is way ahead of Gibson LP's.
I am looking forward to trying an S2 again, it was a long time ago and I didn’t love it, or the SE range, but the newest SE (35th c24) is just great compared to that time when I didn’t like it much. So I bought it. I hope I can try this S2, and see how it feels. You did a really nice job with this video thanks!
The Korean electronics in these are a part of the pricing advantage over the Core line, but Paul is clearly willing to accept smaller margins here too. However, I think it's more accurate to call them US/Korea hybrids rather than American made.
They're still American made. They're assembled in Maryland. They just use more parts from overseas than other guitars. Almost all guitars use some parts from overseas since wood has to be exported. And other parts can come from other countries as well. So it still counts as American made.
Would you say these are closer to the SE range or high end US catalog? I've played both the new Tremonti and Zack Myers SE's, phenomenal. Wanting to pull the trigger on an S2 but wasn't sure the purpose of this line with the SE quality reputation. Great review. To me it seems like this would be an upgraded SE where the "some of all the parts/craftsmanship" come together perfectly, or is it a bare bones "high end?"
I’d probably swap out the pickups for taste, but the build and nitro finish make this feel far and away better than my Korean-made SE Tremonti (which is by no means a bad guitar). Upgrading an SE will get you a great guitar, but I’d still rather have an S2!
