  • We had delivery of two gorgeous PRS guitars into the shop this week and although on paper they were the same model and colour, they were very different in person!
    So could it be that if they can look so different, could we find a difference in sound? Let's put them to the test.

    I thought B was just a bit more lively across the board. Could just be a minor variation in potentiometer vales?

      Band = Funeral for a Friend
      Song = All the rage
      Album = Hours
      Wow, that takes me back ... great album by a really good Welsh band. Might have to dig out the CD and give it a listen.

    I have the 35th Anniversary McCarty. When I got it home I went through my New-Guitar Ritual, plugged in and noticed that it had less Mojo than I was use to in a PRS. I compared it to my Custom 24 and was kind of disappointed. I’m like, F…, I’ll have to return it. But then! I took some of Rob Chapman’s advise, unplugged and played it and played it and suddenly I hit this sweet spot and the guitar woke up. After that the more I played it the more it woke up. Now it’s so hard to put down. Sounds great plugged in because it sounds great. Sometimes it not the electronics but the Mojo!

      @V X It's all about vibration. The more that wood vibrates the more it wakes up, it's pieces of a 'dead tree', you have to play it to bring out the Mojo.
      Everything come down to vibrations; Music Breath Mind Nature etc

    Sounds close enough!
    But I dunno... If I'd dip my toe in PRS I'd probably want their fully carved top with all the whistles.

      I have 2 core PRS a 22 and 24 custom and my S2 594 35th anniversary also has nitro finish I play more lighter better woodier tone but the pickups are horrible !! the woods used are identical to the core Honduras Mahogany and the same if not more sustain I was skeptical too but the 594 is excellent with good pickups the carve is irrelevant the S2 is actually better the violin carve makes my forearm sore the S2 is super smooth !!!!!!!! and not super expensive I got mine minor blemish at AMS for 1300

      @@panthersoul yes I personally do not like them they are cheap pickups the 85/15s

    Interesting comparison. B sounded fractionally better to my ears; slightly 'richer' sound, whatever that means. But that could be imagination; the human ear/brain is easily fooled and when the drummer comes in...you wouldn't hear a difference. Would be interesting to know the difference in measured pot/cap values, but that's the engineer in me.

      Agreed. B sounds slightly hotter/boosted to my ears.

    I dunno why but it really bothers me that the neck is bound but the body isn’t. I’d buy one tomorrow if it was.

    I have the PRS S2 594 35th anniversary .. the guitar itself is like custom core quality the woods used are the same as the core playability better then my core 22 custom and 24 custom BUT!!! the electronics and pickups are straight garbage I do not know why the guys doing reviews say these pickups are decent my Wilkinson classics made in china are far superior lucky for me I had some Dimarzio pickups laying around the DP190 and DP192 classic air with coil tap now this guitar is incredible so be prepared to buy pickups because those 85/15 S are terrible cannot believe Paul would put that garbage in his guitars !!!!!!!!!!!!! BUT THE GUITAR IS WELL WORTH THE 1799 with USA pickups its way better than paying 4k for a core

    I have been working with the PRS CE for a long time already the best guitar but when this PRSS2 594 got out to the market I saw the price and I thought if they are that expensive they must to be good ...... mistake terrible mistake the one made in Korea feels and sounds much better than this pice of gar........ very expensive guitars for the price you can get an American fender Stratocaster instead and you will be much better I promise you that.. PRS CE the best. PRS S2 garb......no good.

      Two completely different guitars. If you're going to try to tell people an se is better than a s2 you can lay the pipe down, nobody is buying that bs. Inferior everything from fretwire to the strap buttons. Buy an American strat, why? With $1800 you can custom order a G&L. The only people buying Fenders today are blues grandpals are people that don't know better. G&L, Suhr, Anderson, now PRS all build better strats. Fender is a name, their guitars outside of the custom shop are all mim quality.
