The T is simply amazing for someone living in the south hills to get to pittsburgh without the hassle of traffic. Also very great when trying to get to the stadiums!
Pittsburgh is one of three remaining systems that uses the Pennsylvania Trolley Gauge. New Orlean's streetcars still run on it, as well as route 101 and 102 in Philadelphia. Because route 101 and 102 uses the same gauge and electrification system as Pittsburgh's light rail (650 V DC using pantographs , you can theoretically run SEPTA trolleys in the South Hills and Pittsburgh LRVs in Media with little to no adjustments. Oddly enough, the MFL and Philadelphia's other trolley lines run on a track gauge that is 1/4 of an inch thinner than the normal Pennsylvania gauge.
@@GaseousStranger SEPTA is close to retiring those K-Cars, and most of the system still has space for low platforms from the PCC days (see: Steel Plaza). It might be closer than you think
I love the history you've included and the in-person research you did for this. The Pittsburgh Tourism Bureau should be paying you for this series... you sell the city and region well and make me want to visit. (Next time I'm down in the States!) 🙂
Apparently per wikipedia the Bon air station only averaged 68 riders per day in 2018. Not surprising given the steep hike involved and the neighborhood at the top of the hill is just a few blocks of low density single family houses.
Such a cool station but yeah, as you said it’s pretty inaccessible for most. From my knowledge most of the stops I covered here aren’t the most popular, but the park and ride facilities further down the line are well utilized. It’s nice to highlight these lesser known stations but I wish I could’ve included Washington Junction or South Hills Village

Are you supposed to cross the tracks at grade at the bonair stop as a passenger? Seems a dangerous as someone from chicago who hears about people dying on tracks, but I suppose those are electrified rails and these are not
They are safe to cross, as long as no train is coming! The tracks are not electrified but instead there are overhead wires powering the trains. So just like tram tracks you would see in a city
@@JKenettOfficial As far as GPU, you will only really need a 3060 or equivalent for this game. I only really use the 3090 for video editing and 3D modeling in blender
@@GaseousStranger I'm thinking just i5-13400f and rtx 3060 or the ti version. I think CS is the only heavy game I'll play too. thinking of getting better just to prepare for CS2 but still no news about its pc reqs 😅
kinda sad you cant go all the way to South Hills Village or Library, I was hoping I could eventually see how you improve the Silver line as its current state is worse for ware and its infrastructure looks like its still from the 40s in its overheads and sorry excuses of "platforms" at most of its stops that are literally just 3-4ft tall concrete slabs
