The washer gives the perfect spacing. This isn't as good as the factory edge and they don't last as long. However you will get at least 4x more cuts out of a blade before you trash it. Beats paying the $80 for the commercially available sharpener and saves ya money in the end.

Did you determine the space between teeth first, or just use the cutting wheels to cut new teeth into old worn out blades?
