I'm a German auto service advisor and I had not driven one in a few. About a month ago I got to drive a 99 with 154,000 on the odo. Boy I forgot how fun and punchy that engine is. Great ride, I ma pick one up if I get the chance.
My partner got a 99 last week with some problems but I love driving it every chance I get lolol We decided not to sale it 🤣

I enjoyed how you focused on the car and all it had for 2001. A lot of those features were high tech.
E39 came out in '96 with side airbags standard. Quite standout at the time. The two-tone tan probably didn't look that sunfaded, they just looked that way. The piece on the roof that looks like it should have a light is a motion sensor for the alarm.

We just bought a 2002 540i M Sport with the 4.4L V-8 as a project car. It's got some issues, but I'm looking forward to tinkering with it.

Hey! Nice video! At 8:32 the strange box in the ceiling of the car is actually a motion sensor. Really handy, once the car is locked, if the box detects any motion on the inside of the vehicle the car alarm will be sounded. I have a 2001 BMW 330i and I learned that the hard way. hahaha!

Still regret not buying this beast with 150m+, had a deposit on it but ran into problems. Took over a year to find another worthy contender but still miss this ride and those M//wheels
That roof part is where the ultrasonic sensor goes if equipped with a factory alarm system.

When the 540 came out in 1996, there was no M5 and BMW claimed no M5 was in the works. The 540 was THE super sedan.
On my e39 540i the clutch is so stiffff

That’s a motion sensor you were grabbing in the back seat.
The Mustang 2.3 ecoboost make 350 lbs-ft torque which is more than the 540i 324 lbs-ft.
And that mustang motor is b.s. 2
