@Fabius Maximus best way is to run it stock, I've got 220K on my 05, nothing but preventative maintenance. Oil changes, fluids etc.. I'm sitting on a salvage rebuilt title, original motor and transmission, runs strong, amazing trucks.
@Fabius Maximus I should have included this in my original reply. You can reliably make around 4-450 HP with an iron block 5.3, but the 4l60e doesn't respond well to too much horsepower, it starts to crap out around 600, but the motor is one of the most well built, best engineered engines I've ever had to work on, tons of room in the engine bay, super simple, and super reliable
"Sorry, I have a bunch of junk back here, guys." Yeah, exactly. You have room behind the front seat to put groceries and "junk" as well as kids, etc. It's a very usable back seat.
@@hemir0y369 unless your 6’4 and weigh 280 plus it does the job fine, it’s no luxury reclining front seat but that’s not the point as your trying to have a usable rear seat while not losing bed length or increasing wheel base. That “lifter noise” is an exhaust leak on one of the exhaust manifolds my truck has the exact same thing, My brothers truck also has it, my dad’s truck also has it, my other brothers truck has it, literally every single person I’ve ever met with a truck has the exact same thing nothing to worry about unless you live in California then the EPA will throw a fit
I just bought an 05 crewcab same color as yours with 148,000. I waited til I found a crewcab because of those reasons that you mentioned, also I am 6ft 1 and 285 lbs. With a wife and a growing 11yr. old son . We travel back and forth from FL to AL quite a bit and the crewcab just made more sense. The truck runs like a sewing machine and is pretty clean. I live in Florida so I don't think rust will be an issue but i'm pretty sure any make pick up will rot from salted snow if not treated properly! Also you are totally right about those factory head units, They are JUNK!!! I will be replacing it very soon with a touch screen hopefully with a back-up camera. I have always bought GM and the Vortec Is "Bulletproof" If you need more interior room , grab yourself the crewcab. I love the room in my truck feels like an SUV with bed space! Thx for the review and good luck!!
That lifter tick noise is often just piston slap, very common on the 5.3s and has been proven, and even recognized by GM as not being an issue/will not affect longevity. It could also be a broken exhaust manifold bolts, another very common issue on these Gen III small blocks
The engine ticking is normal. The LS engines have done that since ‘99. They will run forever, great engines. GM had a service bulletin on that noise back in ‘01. It’s not a lifter(so they claim). Anyway, those engines are tough, ignore the noise. My ‘01 has 387,000 miles on it and still going. My ‘05 has 240,000 and also never a problem. As far as rust, well I’m in Texas so never seen rust on a vehicle before. That would suck though! Nice video, enjoyed it!
To fix the tick replace oil pump with a new or high volume oil pump! Lower oil pressure causes lifters to make tick noise! They run about $65! I own 3 Chevy 5.3 trucks great trucks!
I'm from Arkansas (north east Arkansas) as well I found a 4x4 2500hd gas and it has a little rust in the rockers and I agree 100% you just cant find them without rust in the rockers you got a new sub
I have an 04 with 120,000 miles on it. I love it, and it has the same problems as yours. The one thing that really bothers me are the speakers, they apparently work when they want to. I've heard from other owners it the stock wiring.
Now that’s a low mileage truck! Really these are overall solid trucks, this was just a fun video to make! I didn’t know that about the speakers on these models... does yours have the Bose speakers?
Hi, the thing that I read about the speakers is that sometimes water can run down the inside of the door and corrode the connection. I didn't have that problem, my stock speakers just fell apart and I replaced them with some Pioneers.
I just wanted to comment and say that I live in upstate ny and I own a 2001 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD LS and my rocker panels are not rusted out they are the original ones that came on my truck when I bought it new..it takes some maintenance to keep the northeast elements from eating away at it..but I've been meticulously maintaining this truck fo 20 years..I change my own oil using royal purple synthetic blend and have only had to replace the alternator once..I change my spark plugs every 5 years with G3 plugs I have found they work the best and last the longest...i put a 3 inch lift in and bilstein shocks all around..i currently have bf Goodrich ko2 tires and found they are the best all terrain tire I've used..i also have the extended cab and you are correct it is small but i have an 8 foot bed in the back so i guess i wouldn't change it just to get a bigger backseat..
I have a 06 Chevy Silverado V8 4.8 It has 220,000 Miles on it! IT RUNS PERFECT NEVER EVER HAVE I HAD IT NOT START UP! currently no problems and funny enough I just bought a radio blue tooth transmitter 2 days ago off amazon and can’t wait!
I’ve had my 06 since 2007. Been a great vehicle. Just did a bunch of work on it to bring it back to like new spec. New shocks on it and holy smokes it made a difference.
I just had a worn engaging spring replaced in my 4x4 actuator. $125. Includes diagnosis. Otherwise brake lines replaced both hubs and wierd problem with hvac actuator doors. Just reset electronics by taking both cables off battery and turning on headlight switch for ten minutes. Runs like new. Otherwise beyond normal wear and tear and maintenance on all 190k vehicles I've spent around $2500 in 35 k miles I've put on it. Only around $350. for every 5k miles. Cheaper than 5k. a year for a lease. Oh and horn actuator spring I replaced myself for 10 bucks. Rusted hinges on tailgate I easily replaced myself for 20 bucks. Most of the expensive repairs are from Michigan rust over 18 years. It's an 04. 5.3. This guy's right. Find one from South of Mason Dixon line.
For that lifter tick, drain a quart of oil out and add one quart of marvel mystery oil about 500 miles before your oil change .. it will get into the lifters and clean them up... You don't want to add anything thick ( Lucas, STP) to your oil because it will increase the viscosity making it harder to get into the lifters thus making the problem worse
Searched forever, but finally found a black 2006 Z71 LT3 crew cab. 140,000 miles. Very minimal rust. Already gave it the POR15 treatment. Dark charcoal interior, heated leather seats, Bose sound, factory sunroof and roof mounted Panasonic DVD player. I’ve just installed a dark wood steering wheel from a similar year era Escalade. Have only had it for a month so far, but wouldn’t trade this truck for anything.
i have an 06 sierra, the ticking noise from what is happening on my truck is the slightest exhaust leak where the exhaust manifold mounts to the head. one or more bolts and/or the seal there is rotted and allows some gas to escape giving that ticking. Inspect those bolts, there will be some rot. The only negative effect from this is just the annoying noise
06 ext cab, 150k, bought under a year ago. Southern Ontario truck, so there's some rust along the bottom edge of the door and rocker panels, but it's not bad
I have a 2000 Silverado ext. cab (late 2000 because of 4 doors instead of 3) and it just hit 195,000 miles. I plan on redoing all of the driveline from the engine all the way to the wheels, and that includes a brand new Moser 9" Ford rear end. It's gonna be a brand new truck and hopefully in the future it will be a collector like how the C10s and C20s are nowadays. That ticking sound by the way I'm pretty sure is just piston slap and lifters on initial startup. My truck does it for a while but it's not bad for it. Nice truck btw.
lifter knock on startup is a healthy GM thing. if your engine doesnt do it and its a GM engine then you better sell that vehhicle cuz numerous people who had no ticking resulted in a blown engine soon after
Congrats man! That’s really low mileage for one, and I thought mine was low miles! I do have a leveling kit, and a video on it I made awhile back (please excuse the quality, it’s not the best. Still learning UA-cam)
The lifter noise is broken bolts on the exhaust manifold 99% of the time. the noise goes away when newly arrived after the engine heats up and expands and eventually will not go away. Very easy to check as it is always the end bolts and there are only 6 on each manifold. the issue is the bolts sometimes snap off below the surface and require a weld to remove. The rocker panels will not rust if liquid filmed each year before winter and be sure to squirt right into the crease or crimp or pinch on the bottom as that is where it starts. I love the suicide doors as I dont ever have passengers and it is like a big tool box back seat. I dont want to have to shut that door and walk back and open the other. personal preference but most like the reg doors or they would not have switched back.
Awesome man. I'm looking at my buddy's 06 5.3 with 140,000 miles same color and z71 it is a 4 door. He looked far and wide for no rust aswell. And he is going to to give me a good deal he is a mechanic and has done all the brake lines, and brakes, aswell as water pump and ball joints. Its pretty bullet proof now. And he never uses it to hual I've known him for 3 years and he may have had 2 bikes in the back a ladder once and firewood once in all that time. He's looking to upgrade to a 2500hd
VERY slick truck man! I like the headlights. I probably would have eventually swapped the unit, but I have sold this truck since and got a 2014 High Country. Be sure to check it out buddy!
Believe the lifter tick is actually the exhaust dounut, mine ticks like crazy cuz that's bad but it was fine before the motor was pulled out and gasket got ruined
I bought my 2006 brand new and love the truck. How ever my stereo on/off button will not turn off that happened probably around 2009. These trucks come with a poor heat blowers.Mine last maybe 3 years and needs to be replaced,I am down to 3 selections out of the 5 on the dial and it will fail again soon. But very dependable for me and glad I bought it.
I just bought a 2007 Silverado Classic with the 5.3 engine and haven't noticed a "tic" yet. When I bought my 2006 Jeep TJ it had a pronounced tic. I took it in to be checked and was told that what I was hearing wasn't lifters, but was the fuel injectors. May be the same in the Chevys.
Extended cab is good for a car seat. Middle only. Passenger side for an infant carrier. It's nice storage space. Wouldn't make anyone ride back there unless it's kids. Lifter tick may be piston slap or something. On mine, oil does make a difference and so does brand of gas. I changed the stereo, double DIN, with bluetooth and USB for under $200. My issue is the knock sensors are designed to get wet and fail, intermediate steering shaft pops, no way to turn off the vents, no pollen filter. Passenger side air bag underneath the seat wiring sucks.
Thumbs up..great video...I totally agree about stock radios. .I hate seeing an aftermarket stereo in a vehicle.... especially a double DIN like most GM's use..I use an FM transmitter myself...works well.
Yes ! And any Chevy , Ford, And Dodge and Toyota , and Nissan full- size truck with a V-8 engine is expensive and just too high to load up in the back bed , from 2012 to now 2021 and I been driving 1986 Chevy Silverado Non- 4 by 4 to my 1985 Chevy Silverado Blazer V-8 to 1984 POWER Ram 50 small 4 cylinder automatic small truck with a 6 foot half inches bed 4 by 4 automatic , and my Bad automatic transmission of a Dodge Dakota 4 by 4 automatic club cab V-6 automatic truck is my best truck with a 6 foot by half inch bed so I bought a used 2006 Chevy Silverado 4 by 4 automatic squad doors 1500 dark green 5.3 Vortex V8 has more room than my Dodge Dakota Truck and more power . I been searching for a 8 foot long bed and regular 4 doors Truck with a right height bed , and a automatic 4 by 4 .But there is no truck cost below $ 10.000 for me to buy so I went with a used Chevy truck for $ 11.000 . 178.000 miles on it.
That (was) is a nice truck! I had an 06 SLE 2 ECSB GMC Sierra with every option except leather. Bought it slightly used in 09 here in California for 14,500 cash. I should have kept it but I got the itch after seeing two of my in laws buying new '18 Silverados. I sold it to my uncle in 2018 for 11 grand and bought a new 2018 SLT crew cab Sierra 4x4 fully loaded with the 6.2. However, when I see my old truck, I think, "man, what a nice truck!"
Haha I know the feeling man! I wish I would have kept this truck, I ended up with a ‘14 High Country. I wish I would have kept this for my secondary rig, it was a solid clean truck for the year.
easy fix for lifter tick is add 4 oz of atf and just leave it in there. it will take time to clean it and it may take a complete oil change to get it to go away but it will. atf has a ton of cleaning properties and is amazing at cleaning out the motor and keeping it clean.
Extended cabs are not really meant for adults unlike the crew cab. My 2004 rocker panel have zero rust. Rust above the rear wheel is common. Lifter tick on 2006 seem common. My 2004 does not have a tick even after 250k miles. The problems I have ran into: all gages on the cluster panel go out, cab ceiling fabric becomes unglued, driver seats break down, heater resistor causes the wire harness to burn up, vacuum hvac lines act up, steering bearing goes out, brakes always seem soft no matter what you do.
1.) Crew Cab 2006 Sierra SL. Ton of room in the back. 2.) Bought with rocker panels redone. 3.) Right side of the truck need to replace the fender and rear panel after three years ownership. Left front fender is now bubblng and corner cabs. 4.) Cold Knock for me. 5.) An AUX and a Bluetooth would be nice but I use the DC radio for my cellphone as well.. Issues with this GMC: A) Steering... name it, it has needed to be replcaed. B) WHEEL BEARINGS C) Door handles... but I'd rather have to dump1k into my GMC once every two years than dump 15k into these "cars" with so many kiddie hand holding features that you'll pay as much as you would to rebuild a transmission once you've paid your 72-84 month $700+ payment.
not just rocker panels and cab corners its all cross members . electrical grounds . all lines fuel, brake, transmission cooler, oil cooler and power steering. Im on my 3rd set of exhaust manifolds. My 05 2500 hd is just a rusty peice of crap with 68k miles on it.. they also have problems with the speedo cluster, have had it fixed twice and now the tachometer just stopped working. also a problem with wiring for the hvac right under the glove box, it was a recall that for some reason my truck was not included, next thing i know my fan were not working and had smoke bellowing out from under the glove box..
i've had all kind of pick up trucks through the years. crew cabs as ext cabs, i prefer the ext cab, the rear seats are perfect for kids, and thats the reason i need something else than a regular cab,
while I do agree with your argument on the extended cab I grew up as a kid whos father had one a extended cab 8ft bed manual so I sorta got a attachment to the extended cab
I have a 2006 Silverado 5.3. It had the notorious tick too. (dry lifter(s). I had found that there is a O-ring on the oil pickup tube. I had noticed that the Oring was dried out. Turns out that when the oil was cold and thicker, it would suck up air instead of oil, causing the tick. By the time I bought an oil pan gasket and O-ring, I fixed the problem myself spending only 46$. I hope this helps
The fix that ticker issue, when you go to do your next Oil Change put one Lucas Oil stabilizer bottle in there and a little thicker oil. Should help it or get rid of it.
Crew cabs have mostly been for people who don’t use trucks for actual work. At least in regular half tons. You have to get a short bed with a crew cab which is garbage for guys like me, the newer half tons can give you 6 & 1/2 foot bed which is great. HD trucks are a great way to get crew cab w/ med or long box without it having to be newer. I’m a fan of extended cab Silverado, mine is an 01 and looks very sporty.
Agreed crew cab is the only way to go. The rust is from where you live. I have an 06 also and has 178k on it and not a bit of any rust at all, even on the bare metal scratches. We have 40 year old cars that have no rust ever. The tick noise is a piston rattle and will be worse when cold. Mine sounds like a diesel on below freezing mornings and goes mostly away once warmed up. This is just a characteristic of an ls engine. As for the stereo well it is an older pickup and was the bomb when it was new. You cant realy complain about that as being an issue. I upgraded mine in my 05 suburban to the factory nav touchscreen and installed an isimple connect. Now I have all the same functionality as th he current tech in cars.
I've owned and driven a few different Gm vehicles from an 89 Cavalier to a 2016 GMC Canyon and it seems like most gm motors have that lifter tick. My cousin has reported the same thing with his different trucks.
Every extended cab I've had has collected junk. If you had small children you could stuff them in there and you can keep things more securely locked up VS in the bed, but I still prefer the full 8' bed. I just got an 07 with atonneau bed cove
Nice Video. I agree with you on several things. I bought mine in 07 and over the last 2 years decided to do a make-over on the Truck instead of buying something new. I had to have extensive work done on the rocker panels and behind the rear wheel well flares (total rust). I find the rear seat useless for passengers, but a nice place to store junk on. I just had it painted this year now and am having trouble finding new outside door moldings, as they are out of stock at the dealer and I would like to replace with original pieces, would you have any ideas? Well, thanks for the video and stay safe! RLTW!
Bought an 06 extended cab, and for the rear seat I honestly think it's the best extended cab ( excluding the newer Ram and chevy's with the smaller regular doors, I'm talking suicide door types) for room, with the seats all the way back of course theres no room, but put the passenger seat closer to the front and even the drivers halfway back and theres still room for everyone. ( I'm 6 foot even and the drivers seat halfway back is still fairly roomy.)
My Silverado from the same generation doesn’t have a problem with the rockers rusting out cause it just doesn’t have them anymore! Can’t rust if it’s not there haha!
When i was welding on rockers on my silverado i found rubber plugs on the back side even on the bed were the wheel wells rot then i realized it was my fault for not spraying somthing in there to stop the rust
I went on a family trip from north Georgia to south west Mexico in my dads 2000 extended cab Silverado. At the time it was a 5 member family so every inch of the interior was filled with bodies and small luggage’s. A very uncomfortable trip so if you’re debating between a crew or extended. Get a crew.
I agree with the extended cab doors lol I mean whats the point, so damn monotonous open open close close all day lol. The rocker panels do suck, mine were so rusted I had to cut the center body mount bolts off with a grinder when I put running boards on! I really hate the center console, so damn big and the cup holders are on the floor!! It could also use some interior lighting cause you can't see shit anywhere in there at night!
Yes ! I have lights below the dash shine on the floors of my Dodge Dakota 4 by 4 1994 truck and lights on my Chevy Silverado Blazer V-8 1985 floors lights up including my 1984 Power Ram 50 small 4 cylinder automatic small truck. But not on my 2006 Chevy Silverado 1500 5.3. Vortex V8 . 4 doors Squad doors .

Oh I'm sorry I meant to get my computer to correct it it a Vortec not Vortex turbo . It a plain stock engine nothing has been added on to it , but I would like to get a bigger battery power for my trailer hookup and hookup to a inverter / charger Electric power plants in the back of my truck bed to run a cordless drill and saw .
@@richardscaggs5936 lol, I kinda figured for some reason this morning to haha, I hate the autocorrect and the talk to text sometimes I get myself in trouble.
I have beef with the extended cab, too. In my case, it's too much cab; it's like the worst compromise of too little passenger room and too little bed length. Half the cab for the same gain in bed would have been ideal. If you want to haul people, get a crew cab or tell them to sit in the bed. ;)
Get after that rust and stop it!! It will be so cheap now. I just bought an 07 classic 5.3 extended cab with 100k, rockers are gone. Got quoted around 4k
4k for rocker replacement , was the guy High or what , Rock Auto has them in stock and someone with good welding skills to put them on , I did mine and coated them with Real Truck Bed Liner , not rocker guard that will rot them out again , sprayed two coats of primer , after sanding down the fill and welds , then 4-6 coats of Bed Liner , nice and solid , plus the crap gets washed off after day out fishing , it's about looking after your shitt ! ! !
I have a 2005 Silverado Crew Cab 5.3/2WD. I'm lucky where I live that vehicles arent too prone to rust. My truck was from Alabama, and with 217k miles on the truck I don't have a single spot of rust. I'm sure thats hard up in the rust belt though.
@@Jaystonishing sorry it took so long to see this. The truck now has 232k miles on it. The motor has the classic Chevy tick but other than that still runs strong, the transmission shifts smoothly and I’ve never had a problem out of it as of yet. I’m not gentle with her but I do keep up with maintenance. The only problems the truck has is a bipolar air conditioning and the interior needs to be redone but that’s pretty common.
Any problems with air whistles at high speeds? My extended cab is giving me fits with air leaks. Works fine around town but when I hit 60 the extended cab windows whistle so loud.
The 4L60E should be the #1 thing to hate. They never should have put that trans in a full-size Pickup. Its better suited for mid-size vehicles like the Late 90's Blazer and the TrailBlazer after those. Not a big heavy Truck. Thing gets too hot without a aftermarket cooler.
I went from an 04 crew cab Silverado to a 2011 ext cab Silverado, I needed more bed space and still be able to fit in my garage. I'm a single guy so the lost cab space wasn't a big deal but I'm sure my occasional passengers would disagree, lol.
my grandma has the 06 base model with 51k miles and has no rust no nothing leather seats looks brand new only issue is the plastics are starting to fail the visors are shattering and the review mirror has broken ish
You still have it boss mine as well head that annoying ticking sound I used some seafoam and took it out took the noise off I mean put it in the engine you could also put it and your gas I highly recommended if you need any help there is plenty of videos on seafoam on UA-cam
Iv got an 06 and its getting pretty good rust on it but you cant kill that dam thing. And thier aint no fuel management and iv got one that does an 011. And I'd trust that o6 farther down th road than I would it. LOL
wow man, it looks like my 92 c1500 ext cab has a bigger rear bench seat and looks like there's more usable space back there....maybe its just my imagination, but i swear man, the rear bench seat in my truck fits like 5 regular size people with plenty of room no problem.....hey man at least you got the dual zone climate control, i love that for the wife.....i always want it cold and she don't.....so that dual zone sure comes handy....
ON THE RUST PROBLEM MAYBE IT IS BECAUSE YOU TRAVEL ON ROADS THAT HAVE BEEN SALTED , IT DEPENDS ON WHAT PART OF COUNTRY YOU LIVE HERE IN TEXAS WE DON'T HAVE THAT PROBLEM
Hey brother, great video, as for the rockers I would undercoat the shit outta them to get some more time out of them, besides alot of electrical issues that's gotta be like the most common issue on these trucks.
my '03. rocker panels? what rocker panels lol fender wells look like swiss cheese and as far as the lifter tick just add Sea Foam to the oil when you change it! for every quart you put in add 1 oz of seafoam and it will stop pretty quick
I like mine 05 gmc 5.3 sounds like that good truck what i not like is $ to fix something i jad mine going 3 years and it sucked 380$ out of me at ones had a 1998 dodge ram with 318 and put it thur hell and put only 200 in it best old truck i ever had thinking going back sorry guys
Crew cab is not much better for leg room and is way worse when you want to fold up the seats. I think there was more room in my extra cab with seats folded up than my crew cab.
I’m a ford guy but even if the body on this gen Chevy is prone to rust these thing will run absolutely forever

My 99 Sierra has 122000 miles. Still runs strong. Only has the 3rd door on passage side.
Hi, the thing that I read about the speakers is that sometimes water can run down the inside of the door and corrode the connection. I didn't have that problem, my stock speakers just fell apart and I replaced them with some Pioneers.
I love my extended cab fits all my guns in the back and my system fits perfectly under the back seat
There is a drain hole at each end of the rocker. Spray oil in those holes. My 2005 is still rust free in Ohio
agree...most cant figure that out.
Kevin Jaskowick what kind of oil?
2nd What kind of oil?
thats hard to believe. im in ashtabula. its a rust hell hole
No rush and you live in Ohio wow. Ohio loves to use extra salt on the roads, everything is rusty here
I just wanted to comment and say that I live in upstate ny and I own a 2001 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD LS and my rocker panels are not rusted out they are the original ones that came on my truck when I bought it new..it takes some maintenance to keep the northeast elements from eating away at it..but I've been meticulously maintaining this truck fo 20 years..I change my own oil using royal purple synthetic blend and have only had to replace the alternator once..I change my spark plugs every 5 years with G3 plugs I have found they work the best and last the longest...i put a 3 inch lift in and bilstein shocks all around..i currently have bf Goodrich ko2 tires and found they are the best all terrain tire I've used..i also have the extended cab and you are correct it is small but i have an 8 foot bed in the back so i guess i wouldn't change it just to get a bigger backseat..
Original transmission?
Same.. 2003 with 202k miles . I've replaced the alternator, battery, and starter... original motor and still going strong
I hope you still have it, that’s a beautiful truck. Love the color and how clean it is.
I’ve had my 06 since 2007. Been a great vehicle. Just did a bunch of work on it to bring it back to like new spec. New shocks on it and holy smokes it made a difference.
What shocks did you go with?
Good info, thanks for the tip buddy!
or a quart of atf.
That is a SWEET sounding truck! Man I really like the wood steering wheel, good mod 👍
i have an 06 sierra, the ticking noise from what is happening on my truck is the slightest exhaust leak where the exhaust manifold mounts to the head. one or more bolts and/or the seal there is rotted and allows some gas to escape giving that ticking. Inspect those bolts, there will be some rot. The only negative effect from this is just the annoying noise
I’ve heard of this as well, good advice!
Thanks buddy! Man that sounds like quite a build, you need to make a UA-cam!
lifter knock on startup is a healthy GM thing. if your engine doesnt do it and its a GM engine then you better sell that vehhicle cuz numerous people who had no ticking resulted in a blown engine soon after
Nice truck. I actually just bought an 06 Silverado yesterday with only 100k miles. It’s exactly what I wanted. Do you have a leveling kit on yours??
What version is it? What did you pay?
Congrats man! That’s really low mileage for one, and I thought mine was low miles! I do have a leveling kit, and a video on it I made awhile back (please excuse the quality, it’s not the best. Still learning UA-cam)
The color is what did it for me. Beautiful green, but mine is a 2005. Sadly, GM doesn't offer that color on its current models.
I bought a crew cab o6 sliverado 1500 lt for 2500 and runs great 118,000 miles only had to change oil pressure sensor
found an '06 man. tranny w/ 67k miles for $6k. Says excellent condition. May be a bit too much $.
Sounds like a great deal buddy!
My friends 04 2500hd had a little over 4,700 lbs in the bed. Dead serious
You said it was pretty bullet proof ? Is it a Armor bank truck ? Or a military service truck ? Or a Law and Orders police officers truck ?
Very true about the rocker panels. Bought mine rusted and had to do a replacement myself in order to pass inspection
Literally the only thing wrong with my 2003 is the "rocker panels." My fender flares be gold af.
imgur.com/a/eHYU6
Also, get a new double dinn LCD replacement screen. Cuz we ain't barbarians.
VERY slick truck man! I like the headlights. I probably would have eventually swapped the unit, but I have sold this truck since and got a 2014 High Country. Be sure to check it out buddy!
Sorry but oh my god, those issues are nothing. Go buy a ford or a dodge in those years and you'll really have something to complain about.
Get that rust fix now or it will be gone. Plus it is cheap now.
Yeah, rust is cancer on these chevys. I didn’t realize it was cheap to replace nowadays, I need to check this out
Dustin T I meant at the time it is not to bad yet to fix it. But for a full set of rockers and cab corners are about 3 grand.
Unfortunately, the rocker panels on these rust from the inside out so replacing the metal is the only option to fix them permanently
Believe the lifter tick is actually the exhaust dounut, mine ticks like crazy cuz that's bad but it was fine before the motor was pulled out and gasket got ruined
I’ve heard about this before! It’s amazing how that can sound like it’s coming from the engine
But very dependable for me and glad I bought it.
it's the heater resistor that causes the problem. Amazon sells the correct one or ask GMC.
It's not the same engine. 2007 classic5.3 have the L33 engine
I have a Cheyenne 2003 Extended Cab with 200,000 km. And its really strong pickup 💪🔝
That’s a good pickup!
Thumbs up..great video...I totally agree about stock radios. .I hate seeing an aftermarket stereo in a vehicle.... especially a double DIN like most GM's use..I use an FM transmitter myself...works well.
I can't do crew cab. The bed on the crew cab is smaller than the bed on the extended cab.
Oh yeah I have a 6 foot long half inch bed truck , no luck finding a 8 foot long bed for that price below $ 10.000 .
Gladly they have panels and cab corners you can cut up and weld. Don’t know if the cost is worth or not. I live in FL. My ‘03 has 180K but has the 4.8
my 78 silverado has the original delco am/fm radio. i love it
Wow, pull the damn front seats a little more forward. Plenty of room in the back, especially compared to small sedans.
I grew up in extended cab trucks in the 90s with no issues.
Man I have an 07 Silverado classic 1500. Love that truck. Standard cab
The pinging is very common on these trucks my and my dads have had it since day one
I hate modifying and changing the stock look too.
Try 5W40 synthetic with AC Delco's oil supplement to help address the lifter noise.
THAT TICK COMES FROM A STOPPED UP OIL GALLEY ON THE PCV VALVE SIDE AND IT WILL EVENTUALLY RUIN THE ENGINE! QUICK FIX IS TO CHANGE THE VALVE COVERS!!!!
X2 on the o ring
The fix that ticker issue, when you go to do your next Oil Change put one Lucas Oil stabilizer bottle in there and a little thicker oil. Should help it or get rid of it.
Thanks for the tip! I’ll check this stuff out
Crew cabs have mostly been for people who don’t use trucks for actual work.
I bought it in 2003 and it’s a 2006 😂
he's a time traveler
I've owned and driven a few different Gm vehicles from an 89 Cavalier to a 2016 GMC Canyon and it seems like most gm motors have that lifter tick. My cousin has reported the same thing with his different trucks.
Every extended cab I've had has collected junk.
If you had small children you could stuff them in there and you can keep things more securely locked up VS in the bed, but I still prefer the full 8' bed. I just got an 07 with atonneau bed cove
WOW that frame is clean
Ive got one just like that, color and all with the exception mines an 05
Nice! That’s the reason I got this truck, I loved the color
I have a 2000 Silverado lt Victory red in color I'm the 2nd owner It has 211000 miles on it now No No rush whatsoever
For the year(s) they did do a decent job. Growing up that’s what I always rode in was the extended cab, and I never had much complaint
If you live where you're at you should clear bra the rocker panels then get rocker panel covers.
@@richardscaggs5936 nice how do you like that vortex?
@@artisanconcrete1212 Great Power come with great responsibility by slowing down a bit on icy roads if I have the correct snow / mud tires , but they didn't have any Wrangler AT 265/75R 17 for my silverado Silverado truck but it's great on my Dodge Dakota Truck 235/75R15 works great for snow and ice and mud And automatic 4 by 4 Magnum V-6 automatic , I had 5 big 31" inches tires of Wrangler AT on my 1985 Chevy Silverado Blazer it was too fast drive motor of a 305 5.1 Automatic transmission and not a automatic 4 by 4 like my Dodge Dakota Truck and my now have Chevy Silverado truck , I only have been driving in muddy driveways and my muddy yards kept getting stuck slightly I have a Mastercraft Mud / snow tires on it , cost me $ 500. For 5 tires not included taxes and balance and warranty . Better power on my 2006 Silverado truck than my 1985 Silverado Blazer .
Holy cow, all the more reason to get rid of it early!
cant you find junkyard silverados and swap em out? its body rust not frame rust so its not as serious
Someone in my area charges $60 a cab corner not including the parts. 2 cab corners were under $50 online. 4k is moronic to ever even give as a quote
How's the motor and transmission? Any major problems
David Dinsmore it’s the window seals
The 4L60E should be the #1 thing to hate. They never should have put that trans in a full-size Pickup. Its better suited for mid-size vehicles like the Late 90's Blazer and the TrailBlazer after those. Not a big heavy Truck. Thing gets too hot without a aftermarket cooler.
I've got a 1993 Cheyenne K1500 223k miles on it. Chevy anyday for me.
Great vid
Hey thanks buddy! Chevy has always made a solid truck, those K1500’s are legendary
Dustin T agreed. Glad I decided to get one.
Mud flaps will prevent a lot of the rust problems on those rockers.
I went from an 04 crew cab Silverado to a 2011 ext cab Silverado, I needed more bed space and still be able to fit in my garage. I'm a single guy so the lost cab space wasn't a big deal but I'm sure my occasional passengers would disagree, lol.
Yeah man nothing wrong with that if it’s just you. The passengers can suffer for a short while! 😂
my grandma has the 06 base model with 51k miles and has no rust no nothing leather seats looks brand new only issue is the plastics are starting to fail the visors are shattering and the review mirror has broken ish
Hey mate what model is this truck?
I have a 06 as well, is it just mine or does your blinker and marker light go at separate times when turning???
Hmmm, mine was consistent. I did have this issue on an s10, turned out to be a ground connection. The blinker would blink too fast
This timing chain or belt? How hard is it to get to the plugs?
All Chevy small blocks have timing chains. Plugs are pretty accessible.
You still have it boss mine as well head that annoying ticking sound I used some seafoam and took it out took the noise off I mean put it in the engine you could also put it and your gas I highly recommended if you need any help there is plenty of videos on seafoam on UA-cam
I enjoy my 06 Silverado.
Solid truck buddy!
Paid $5,000 70,000 miles. Great truck
I just inherited my late father's 2006 Silverado...regular cab, with only 50,000 original miles. (Garaged last 5 years). Enjoy it more every day.
Opening a front door to get to the second door? You open the front door anyway to get out of the vehicle, so what’s the problem.
2018 cab corners, rocker panels, fenders rusted
Go buy a Ford and when the spark plug pops out and don’t think your gana care for a lifter tick
The only thing I don’t like about my 06 is the headlights, the come on automatically and for some reason they are very difficult to turn off
You can very easily prevent the rust,
Iv got an 06 and its getting pretty good rust on it but you cant kill that dam thing. And thier aint no fuel management and iv got one that does an 011. And I'd trust that o6 farther down th road than I would it. LOL
rockers rust out because no one washes the dirt and grime out from under them.
So true!
wow man, it looks like my 92 c1500 ext cab has a bigger rear bench seat and looks like there's more usable space back there....maybe its just my imagination, but i swear man, the rear bench seat in my truck fits like 5 regular size people with plenty of room no problem.....hey man at least you got the dual zone climate control, i love that for the wife.....i always want it cold and she don't.....so that dual zone sure comes handy....
05' badass touchscreen bluetooth DVD player in my Bose/Rockford F.
ON THE RUST PROBLEM MAYBE IT IS BECAUSE YOU TRAVEL ON ROADS THAT HAVE BEEN SALTED , IT DEPENDS ON WHAT PART OF COUNTRY YOU LIVE HERE IN TEXAS WE DON'T HAVE THAT PROBLEM
Hey brother, great video, as for the rockers I would undercoat the shit outta them to get some more time out of them, besides alot of electrical issues that's gotta be like the most common issue on these trucks.
my '03. rocker panels? what rocker panels lol fender wells look like swiss cheese and as far as the lifter tick just add Sea Foam to the oil when you change it! for every quart you put in add 1 oz of seafoam and it will stop pretty quick
crew cab w/short bed is the way I went.
