Your videos are absolutely amazing! Thanks so much for doing this, it's so hard to find good materials about MODX. The short videos are cool, we can watch exactly what we need. I'm waiting for more :)
Just got my modx8, and have really learns how to use it by watching your videos. Thank you for how you explain different functions oh how to navigate it.
Hella good Dom! I had to do a Homer Simpson "DOH!" when I saw how straight forward it is to use velocity to create different triggering points from keyboard pressure, to activate parts. Great stuff. I'll be watching more for sure!
All the things I always wanted to do with my motif xf i can on montage it seems. Years ago I aked a question at the forum at motifator if I could somhow combine performances. It was treated like a atrange question. Yet here it is. Falling in love with this board. Thanks Dom love your vids. No nonsense gets straight to the point. Cool.
Great video. I find many Montage and MODX videos to be too long and complex. I prefer these short 3 minute lessons. Some ideas for future videos, using arps, using a multi with external sequencer/daw, setting up a vocoder, assigning parameters to the knobs and the superknob, setting up insert fx per part and setting a master fx.
I think it’s the role of the manufacturer to provide the user with documentation and manuals to fully master their instruments. Products cost too much already to pay middlemen more cash .Anyone old enough to remember the Heathkit company ( 70’s) and the amazing documentation they provide as we built their electronic kits and see them work flawlessly! Amen .
I like your video's, you make it sound like this is groundbreaking technollogy.. But then its something we been doing for over 20 years now... layering sounds and adding velocity settings to them..
AWESOME! Thanks so much Dom. Yes ... love the 'quick hit' 3 minute format. Please keep em' coming. How about one on creating Live Sets ... but ... definitely want to be able to edit and save the performances (patches) such as modifying & saving eq, ADSR, octave etc. ... not simply trigger the existing performances. Thanks again!
I’m completely new to synthesiser and I was wondering if you could go over the cable setup for the MODX like what cables are required and where to plug them into . Might be a no-brainer but if you could do that it would be really helpful. Really good vid btw
Hey Dom - great video. Love these quick tips and especially useful looking at the velocity. Thank you. Could you do something about using scenes and keyboard control to make seamless sound switching?
Hi Dom! As always great and interesting video! Can you create video or give link to video with info about creation of own arpeggios, nuances of it configuring and it opportunities?
That what im looking for! We can put 16 parts together? Like that make a super realistic instrument using multiples samples with différentes keyzone and velocity.
Good morning Dom, I didn’t know you made the intro for the MODX6+ that is amazing. Wow! I’m conflicted between the MODX6+ and the Roland Juno X. I am a newbie and would like to know your thoughts on both of these. I’m looking to learn to play piano for fun and also synthesis as well. Hope you’re doing great, AJ
Hey AJ, if you’re talking about the promo video, yes I wrote and produced the music for it, thank you! They are massively different synths. The Juno X will give you the Juno sound- if that’s what you’re looking for. It’s amazing. If you want to learn how to play the piano I would suggest the MODX+8. Not only it has all the sounds you will need and amazing pianos but it is a beast of a synth. If you know what you’re doing you will be able to create any sound imaginable! I suggest the 88keys because these will allow your fingers to be trained for a real piano. The synth keys are great but most piano teachers dislike them myself included. Hope this helps!
Hi Dom thanks for all the great videos ! I will be picking up my Montage 6 tomorrow . I have been playing an s90xs for the last six years and really love it. I notice that there are quite a few third-party sample libraries available for the montage. My question to you is will I be able insert these third-party samples along with internal voices from the montage to create a Performance in the montage ? Thanks and keep up the great videos !
Glad you enhoyed it :) The Montage is compatible with Motif files but if you want to take full advantage of the Montage engine I would suggest you look into dedicated libraries for the Montage. There's some really cool ones on Yamahamusicsoft.com, some of them free (CS80!)
Hi!! Great job!! Very precise!! Could you show How to create a performance with diferente efects (FX). I know that MODX has 2 FX inserts. Tell us about this expecific issue, please!
I bother you with a consultation, can you sound more than 8 tracks at the same time? When I start putting together a sample with more than 8 tracks in "Multi-gm", the tracks from 9 to 16 does not show me the "KBD Ctrl" therefore do not sound. What do I have to do to enable them? From already thank you very much
Thanks nice how too. One thing I can't figure out is how to make the beats of the modx record in daw. The sounds are fine but the beat never records. I can hear the beat only.
Please do video modx6 layers 8 voices, and how to control volume each voice with slider. Since modx only has 4 slider, how to control all other voices? Thanks
Sir When I change my tone to another tone it's cut off. Can you please help us and make a tutorial on how to create a No Cut tone please? And how to hold a pad tone at Church worship time. Please
Bro how in the world to turn the sustain off on the bass patches .. When I split bass and keys the bass line " finger bass or electric bass " sustains when I use the sustain pedal.
Can there be a time delay between 2 sounds say maybe for 20 ms in between 2 sounds ... it actually helps to create a good stereo image by doing a hard panning
Thanks for another video Dom!. Can you make a video explaining how to use Montage with Logic or any Daw without the sound changing... For example: Every time I add a new External MIDI channel in Logic to add a new sound on the performance in Montage, the sound changes like the EQ or some effect from the Montage. So it doesn't sound anymore as if I would play it directly into the piano. Is like logic changes the parameters in the channel of the performance. Even when I start a performance from scratch. When I do just like you did there in this video and add new sounds when I play them as "MIDI Rec on DAW" in Logic it doesn't sound like when I play it on the keyboard. Even with the Send FX off. Thanks!
In a multilayered performance every part or layer has its own midi channel. All parts are triggered simultaneously via the keyboard. When you switch to daw mode it only transmits 1 midi channel and you only hear 1 layer. You need to go into utility/settings/advanced/midi i/o mode change to single. You would use multi mode if you wanted multiple midi channels on your daw to control multiple parts on montage. for example if you wanted to play a midi file with a GM soundbank.
Hey Dom. I Know its a synth, but is it possible to play a song, where you split left and right hand, and the arp/bas follow the chords in left hand, like a arranger. ????
Hi Dom. I tried doing a piano/bass split by adding a piano sound to one of the electric bass sounds, but the piano came to the performance with a weird chorus effect that I couldn’t get rid of! Was this because the piano picked up the same effect that was already applied to the bass in the original sound? Does this mean that it’s better to start with Init sounds when I want to split or later sounds? It seems that whenever I try to layer or split the sounds loose some depth. I need to figure this out ASAP cuz I have a gig on Saturday please! 😄🙏🏼
Did you ever sort this out. I have the same issue. I’ve got my piano sound exactly the way I like it, but if I split the keyboard and add a different sound my piano sound seems to lack volume.
Glenn Parsons Hi Glenn. Yeah I kinda figured out how to control the sounds when you bring them into a different performance. You need to find out what’s affecting the sound and just delete it. You can also import any assignment that you had in a performance when you merge it with another. There’s a detailed discussion about it in yamahasynth.com forum Regarding your piano lacking volume I’m not sure what’s the reason for that. If you’re adding the piano to another performance then yes the piano will be affected by the master effects of that other performance plus any other assignables that are affecting the entire performance, you can find those out and delete them if you don’t want them. But if you’re adding another sound to the piano then that shouldn’t change anything
Hi Dom, I have trouble finding out how to layer 16 sound on Montage, I have set the sound up to the 9th channel, but it seems like it doesn't support "keyboard control" :( is there anyway to work around it? Or is Montage couldn't handle the extra layers?
How many sounds can I? Is it possible to divide sounds in zones, for example piano in the lower keys, strings in the middle, and a synth lead in the top? And how about lead sounds? I need aggressive ones for playing Metal🤘😄
Shift + store. Then it will bring up a menu asking if you want to save as a new performance or overwrite an existing one. Real easy once you’ve done it a few times.
Can anyone say they’re e satisfied with the Keybed of the modx6 or 7. I have a montage 8, I want to buy this board but I’m not sure if I would regret it after owning it a while.
Really dynamic sounds! We want more videos like this Dom!
Thanks so much! You taught me more in three minutes than I would have learned on my own in three months! Your info is worth gold!
I just got a MODX6 a few weeks ago and I am still learning this thing. Love the channel and these videos. Thanks so much!
Your videos are absolutely amazing! Thanks so much for doing this, it's so hard to find good materials about MODX. The short videos are cool, we can watch exactly what we need. I'm waiting for more :)

As usual, GREAT and USEFUL video Dom. Looking forward to many more like this!
Dom, your videos are teaching me so much. Thank you!
Thank you very much enjoy the format I am new to MODX and very much need all the help I can get! appreciate it!
Hella good Dom! I had to do a Homer Simpson "DOH!" when I saw how straight forward it is to use velocity to create different triggering points from keyboard pressure, to activate parts. Great stuff. I'll be watching more for sure!
You have a great talent to explain things thoroughly but in a simple way. I always enjoy your videos. :)
I don't even own one of these yet but your videos are pushing me towards picking one up. Keep up the great work!
Excellent. I just purchased a new MODX7 yesterday.

Thanks for making this easy to understand. Awesome!
Dom, great video's! Nice short dedicated issues explained! Keep on doing these ones please!
Great video. I find many Montage and MODX videos to be too long and complex. I prefer these short 3 minute lessons. Thanks a lot Dzod! Stay tuned, I have some more videos coming especially external sequencing and insert fx :)
Multis with external sequencer +1
Hey Dom, make a online course.
1. Basic, parts, Elements, layers etc
2. More complex, arps etc
3. What ever..
4. I'll buy it !😀
I think it’s the role of the manufacturer to provide the user with documentation and manuals to fully master their instruments. Sooooo helpful.
Now I want to assign layers to Superknob/control pedal.
Excellent tutorial!!! Thank you
Keep them coming Dom. Very informative.
Great video man! straight to the point
I like your video's, you make it sound like this is groundbreaking technollogy.. But then its something we been doing for over 20 years now... layering sounds and adding velocity settings to them..
`Hey Jules, thanks! Of course it's not groundbreaking but it's so easy compared to the Motif for example :)
There is no keyboard as intuïtieve as my modx, espescially when compared to my Kronos... maybe Nord stage is as intuitive, but certainly not my kronos
Totally awesome 👍 As I understand it one can have up to eight layers. One thing I'm not seeing much of is the Synths song recording abilities.
AWESOME! Thanks so much Dom. Yes ... love the 'quick hit' 3 minute format. Please keep em' coming. I think this video made me want to buy this machine, as a complete beginner :) Cool!
This is cool and a great idea too have a channel dedicated to everyone who wants excel with MODX! Thank you for creating it!

Hey Jimbo thanks for this! How would you like connect your MODX? For recording? To a computer?
Great ..thanks for the video. more expected as a beginner. Thank you once again
Thank you Dom, great video as usual ;)
Hey Dom - great video. Love these quick tips and especially useful looking at the velocity. Thank you. Could you do something about using scenes and keyboard control to make seamless sound switching?

Great ! Keep them coming !! :) Thanks
Very usefull, thank so much for share!!
great lessons. thanks so much! pls more
That was so easy! THANK YOU!
That’s awesome! Thanks!
Please make a video on the arpeggios. How can we quickly latch the arps without menu diving? Can we combine multiple arps?
Thanks for this information!
these are great vids
Hi Dom! As always great and interesting video!
Can you create video or give link to video with info about creation of own arpeggios, nuances of it configuring and it opportunities?
Agreed! A “How to create your own arpeggios” video is definitely needed!!!
❤very useful sir
Thank you for this
Thanks brother 🙏🏼🙏🏼
Wow!!!! Just found out about that video!
That what im looking for! We can put 16 parts together? Like that make a super realistic instrument using multiples samples with différentes keyzone and velocity.
thank you so much for the video... please tell me how to delete single tone from multiple made layers????
Best video
Can you change the octaves on each sound individually without affecting the others? I'm having this issue
Actually yes

How can i save the layer to live set???
Great sir
great fine but then how do you save the sounds you layer?
Is it possible to have a layer trigger only when a key is lifted up? Thanks for such a good video series! It's very helpful!
Yes, it's possible :)
How many layers or Splits (parts) are allowed for each performance?
Thanks
Cool vid . can i put effects on each layer?
Thanks man🙏♥

Thanks nice how too. One thing I can't figure out is how to make the beats of the modx record in daw. The sounds are fine but the beat never records. I can hear the beat only.
Made it simple on split thx
Please do video modx6 layers 8 voices, and how to control volume each voice with slider. Since modx only has 4 slider, how to control all other voices? Thanks
You just need to press the button next to the slider to switch from parts 1-4 to parts 5-8 :) same goes for elements.
great video but how to save and retrieve it? i stored the set but can't seem to be able to retrieve it when i turn back on the keyboard
Isn't there a limitation with sounds layering with the Yamaha MODX8 Synthesizer Keyboard based on the 64 Voice Polyphony ???
Sir When I change my tone to another tone it's cut off. Can you please help us and make a tutorial on how to create a No Cut tone please? And how to hold a pad tone at Church worship time. Please
có cách nào liên lạc và hướng dẫn giúp tôi cách cài voice trên MODX7 không?
Hi I’ve layered 4 voices but the voices cut out when I play many notes at once ! What am I doing wrong ?
*Nothin wrong. Keyboard doesn't have enough polyphony. Certain sounds will cut off at times.*
Killer dude... how do I save it though?
Best sir
Bro how in the world to turn the sustain off on the bass patches .. When I split bass and keys the bass line " finger bass or electric bass " sustains when I use the sustain pedal.
Id love to hear what the Wurlitzer electric pianos sound like.

Up to 8 sounds. You can definitely split they keyboard to play different sounds.
Agressive sounds: Use the FM-X engine. It can play all DX-7 sounds you may find on the net. B.t.w. a Montage has 16 Slots (parts).
Nice
Tutorial skyfull of stars-Coldplay piano please and with superknobs changing ,please please

Can you save the layered sounds you create to a preset?
What if you want to use the hold pedal to hold only one of the sounds, not all three.
Total No of Layers you can add in both?
I need to save sounds so I can switch easily to other saved sounds because each movement is a different sound
I love my modx
Is it possible to make a tone of multiple parts into a single part?
Not really the parts are always separate.
Sir my Modx touch is responding slow so what can I do sir
Hi sir can I play Indian instrument in Modx.
Hi is there a setting where I can fix the polyphony on the modx because when I play with many layers the notes cut off
