- Опубліковано 5 вер 2020
- Welcome back to another ‘Pilot Tutorial’ of the Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020! Today we’ll be looking at a Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 full IFR flight along with a Garmin G1000 tutorial and ILS approach! I review and discuss the G1000 & how to operate it during the cruise portion of a full IFR flight from Vancouver to Victoria, BC. Thanks for watching friends! Let me know what other tutorials you'd like to see below!!
FIRST FS2020 BASIC TUTORIAL HERE: bit.ly/34YaNUL
PS: I made a mistake - I mentioned the standby battery test is to check whether there's enough juice to power up the engine, but it's the main battery that does that, not the standby battery. The test is to check if the standby can power up the PFD during start up :) Thanks to Capt Joe for pointing that out!!

@@Pilotemilie I have been wanting to ask you this. (New subscriber for about two weeks) Just how accurate is Microsoft flight sim aircraft to real world aircraft that you fly or have flown ?
I mean.... it's a game. I fly the real thing? Hard for me to compare...😊
Hi darling poliot emilie
@@Pilotemilie How dare you Em ! i thought i was really flying a plane before i read this :( lol
WOW...so many functions! I just realized, you were basically talking for the entire video. That’s a whole lotta talking! Good job teacher!
😭😭😭 thank you for noticing this 💓 Means a lot!!
Lol "lots of functions"! You've obviously never seen DCS! :P
@@SunfireGTX25 you are correct!
@@SunfireGTX25 the manuals for dcs f18, f14 and a10 scare me
Kinda funny, I tried the TBM and literally 90% of the bottom row buttons are dead while they seem to work on that 172, like the switching off of that mini map frame... such a shame.
As a private pilot who just got checked out in the G1000 C172 and for whom all this has not become yet second nature, I found this tutorial to be quite a useful review. One recommendation from my instructor (and also from the author of a good G1000 book): take advantage of the redundancy and always use only the buttons in the center (i.e. right side of the PFD and left side of the MFD). It's faster because you move your hand less and you don't block the view of the PFD instruments while you set up NAV frequencies, heading, altitude, A/P etc. Of course, this is more relevant for flying the real thing, but it helps not to change the habit when practicing with the simulator.
To get the minimums call out with a G1000, you have to select “BARO” instead of “OFF” to the left of where you input your minimums altitude. (Never played Flight Sim but it works in the real thing). Have fun not busting through minimums.
hola hemosa mujer tu tienes hijo
I'm enjoying that you use, and more importantly explain, a lot of the terminology and acronyms I hear other avid sim'ers or real pilots use. I'm just clicking buttons that do what I want but hearing you explain something like "pfd" stands for primary flight display vs "mfd" multi-function display really makes it all click together for me. I've heard ATC talking about bugs before but never understood till now. Keep making these great vids!
Hi Emilie,
These shodows and sun light in the cockpit are so realistic wow.😍😍😍
A big thank you for this video! I've been strugging trying to learn the G1000 lately. This will surely help a lot. And please do the VNV video/tutorial in a future video. 😃👍👍🤙
I have watched hundreds of hours of pilots in real airplanes, and certainly have my favorites, but I am really enjoying your teaching style (Asperger's syndrome, major depressive disorder)
Flight simming was a major thrill for me for many years and I was never afraid to tackle a new challenge. You make the complex "simpler" which I find is a rare gift. Thank you for all you do, and I adore your cat. HUGE cat fan.
@James Plaisted Learning a flight sim with Asperger's is a bit of a challenge, isn't it? From one Aspie to another, all the best wishes to you! :)
Hi Emilie!
I've been watching G1000 tuturials for the past few days because I'm trying to learn IFR and ILS and yours is the easiest to follow and has great info. Great video!
Thank you! I got MSFS recently so I'm excited to watch this!
Yesterday I did a discovery flight in CSB3 and holy 💩 my years of sim did not prepare for the overload of senses I got flying a real 172!! Sim flights really are just games 😂 keep the good work Emilie!!
That tutorial was absolutely perfect for me, just the right amount of detail to not feel intimidated and learn how to do it at the same time.
Glad I spent 30min learning the G1000 instead of hours and hours of punching buttons and frustration. Feel like the hardest part has always been setting up for approach mode and having it capture it, especially in an airliner with higher GS! Thanks again!
Thank you so much for this video^^
Up until now I only did VFR flights with the autopilot set to direct GPS .
This video did help me a lot, especially when it comes to do an ILS approach
Awesome tutorial Emilie, One of the best i've followed so far you explain everything so clearly and slowly. I've been away from flight simming for over 12 years now so have to learn all the new systems again. I learnt the Airbus and boeing fmc's when i built a full size simulator in my bedroom, unfortunately i never got to finish it. Keep up the great videos.
You have a excellent teaching style. A long time ago, the United States Air Force trained me as a Navigation Systems Specialist (Tactical AC). Learned about ILS, TACAN, VOR, IFF, and a bunch of secret stuff. I knew the concepts, and electronic theory in regards to how these systems operate. I never actually flew. Watching your videos have filled in a bunch of missing gaps in regards to how to use. Have had two successful sim flights in which I felt like I kinda knew what I was doing. Last missing gap, for me, is VOR landings. Keep up the good work!
Thanks Steve!
Nice video! Just getting back in to flight sim with the new release. I have watched 3 or 4 G1000 tutorials before yours and stopped as soon as they say things like “ I am not sure what that button is, I never use it”. Refreshing to watch you expertly explain the functionality. Also you have impressive multi-tasking skills, explaining and flying at the same time. Looking forward to watching more of your videos. Thanks!
Such a thoughtful comment, thank you!!! I appreciate that - it's all skills you hopefully develop when you become a Flight Instructor lol!!
Learning more about Approach mode was something I've been needing, Thanks very much Emilie.
Update after first flight under new knowledge. Approach worked great and had a nice landing from it. Good stuff
Thanks for another! Hope you can stream in the future!
Please keep making more tutorials! I made a gaming rig just for Flight Simulator 2020 and I'm learning so much from your videos! This is turning out to be an excellent educational channel! Liked and subscribed! :)
Just starting with MS FS 2020. Extremely useful. Especially from a real pilot. Cannot thank you enough.
Nice video! Im a norwegian hobby pilot and I used to know all this stuff - but I still watch cause you are so lovely and make it so interesting - very refresching when you cant keep your hands still lol
Halla hans øyvind hva skjer det er no simp september
The way you explain things is very easy to understand. Your voice is clear and concise and easy to listen to
Many thanks for the G1000 system tutorial, I recently purchased the Cessna 182, which is a blast to fly and I now have more of an understanding of the approach and glideslope. Spot on!
Wow I love this tutorial you have really sharpened my mind many thanks 😀now I can fly using the G 1000. JUST ONE REQUEST IF YOU COULD DO A TUTORIAL ON VOR NAVIGATION
Thank you, couldn't apply everything on my last flight since airports were small field airstrips, but it will help a lot for the upcoming months in UK and Northern France
A simple, well done tutorial on the G1000, thank you. Probably the best I've come across so far for a beginner. Wish I could give you a 1000 thumbs up!!
I have just watched some of your videos. OMG they are amazing. I have been using FSX for a while now and in your videos you have explained alot more on checklists etc. Hope you are keeping safe. A huge congratulations on your promotion. Keep up the great work
You can press "D" to set heading indicator. After that, you can press the synchronize button on the G1000. It seems to have some internal offset when you use the outside camera to look around. I had the same thing happen with mine.
That was great for a noob like me, thanks Emilie! I'd really appreciate a deep dive into the G1000 Flight Plan panel and the procs functions.
What an amazing video! Just spent the last 60 min following along and learned a ton. Great instruction and super fun to follow. So great to learn from you - thanks for sharing your knowledge during these crazy quarantine times Emilie - super appreciated! And awesome job having fun as well!
Thanks for the video, learned a couple of new things. Looking forward for the next one.
“Shall I try to land it?” But of course Captain Emilie!
Imagine if you were in a real flight with Captain Emilie and she said "Shall I try to land it?" :P
I'd 100% say this to my FOs, just for fun :)
@@hand587 "Ok folks, we're going to try and land this plane, let's all hope it goes better than the last time". 😄
Vancouver is a beautiful airport for planespotting! 😍
keep the videos coming! I really enjoy watching them.. I'm loving my msfs2020 so far lol :)
Very enjoying and useful video coming from a real pilote. hope to see many more videos from you. Learning to fly is so interesting. Continue your good work!
Fantastic tute, makes me want to get back into flight simming. Think the guy in the Big jet was having fun, but not sure his passengers would be :)
The hand movements at the very beginning triggered an ASMR response. haha.
Thank you for the ILS tutorial I finally found one that isn't so complicated and it pretty simple. Thanks, earned a sub!
You put a smile on my face! I think the most positive captain on UA-cam
That feel when you're deeply engaged with the realism of the simulator, and a Fortnite-player comes along in his airliner :\
it's funny!! made me laugh :)
Ok, flying in to Victoria for the High Tea at the Empress...
That's a great video and you're a great teacher, Emilie! I'd love to see another video of how to input an actual flight plan with proper use of SID and STAR into the G1000. A VNAV Tutorial would also be great. Thank you so much and keep up the good work!
The jet flying around & also another plane moving to an exit as you touched down was different. I noticed the sun shining on the compass get dimmer as you were turning. I thought that was cool. I enjoyed the video. Thank you for doing it.
Hey Emilie, any chance you could zoom in on the panels a little more when describing the little buttons? Or a lot more? Thx
I M surprised she didn't go to into instrument camera
exactly....zoom in on the panels and stay out of the screen...nobody needs to see you...it´s the instrument that count...
Great tutorial Emily, just one suggestion. Next time zoom in a bit to the displays/gauges. A lot of us are watching on mobile phones and it's just a bit too small. Thanks and keep up the great work!
Yes instrument view one and instrument view three are close ups of the screens
Brilliant tutorial, got me up and running with autopilot first time, thrilled! Thanks for putting this together
Zooming into the panel when explaining the various displays, gauges and buttons helped big time.
Emilie, rumor has it that there's a Dash-8 coming to MSFS 2020. Then you can show us how the pros do it.
Finally found another female flight simmer, yay! .. I'm not a real pilot though, haha. I'm looking forward to watching more of your videos 👩✈️😊
There's more of us than one'd think, we're just well-camouflaged!
@@mikkykyluc5804 Haha, that's good to know 😊

Easily the highlight of my Sunday evenings, moving forwards!! 😀👍😎 Great vid!!
That GA and FLC difference you've noted on the dashboard/Garmin - fingers-crossed MS may put that in the game at some point. -You've probably already clocked there's some buttons in aircraft that haven't been mapped from real-life - 'InOp' I think they come-up as when you hover the mouse over them. Better still, I think the main menu has a place where you can request features/report issues. -Might be worth a shot.
Great stuff, thanks for sharing your expertise on this! I actually just tried Vancouver to Victoria before seeing this, but as a casual flight sim fan, was trying to figure out if the 172 had autopilot! So perfect video (though I might have to watch a few times to soak it all in)!
Your landings are so smooth. I would love to see you do the landing challenges and see what Highscore you can get there :3
...then proceeds to land on one wheel by week 3. Hold on... did she say 3000ft/min?
You can see Saba wasn't a good outcome i also have failed numerous times :(
Once VR support and 'in cockpit multiplayer' is functioning well, this is the quality of training I would pay for. You've got a real knack for this, Emilie!
Found this while searching for G1000 tutorial. Very useful info. Thanks!
Thank you. I've just shot my first ILS approach using a glass cockpit into Victoria.
I think those other pilots found your username and showed up. You have fans!
Ahhh, Go around! Go around power! flaps 10! By the way, have you tried the multiplayer side with Vatsim, you should be able to have some human ATC!
I subscribed after the first video I watched. I love all things aviation and want to go to flight school eventually. Love your videos!! They're so interesting and entertaining since you're an actual pilot and know what you're doing.
Thank you so much, Emilie. This was really a great tutorial. Very helpful. Keep more of this coming.
Emilie, you're going to have to get your agent to talk to Garmin now for a contract...
As much as I'd love a VNAV tutorial, sadly it is not functional in the sim at this time (the developer has confirmed this). But perhaps some other tips on flying jetliners?
This is very helpful. I hope you can do tutorials for all possible approaches using as as many different planes as possible. I like to see everything explained in as much detail as possible. So big thumbs up towards your future videos. Thank you so much.
Hi Emilie, I stumbled into your vlog, really glad I did as your tutorials on sim2020 is amazing, very clear and easy to understand. I have been using sim for couple of years but finally 2020 is amazing, pilots dream come true. I take flying lessons on cesena and piper and find this sim useful. Thank you for your amazing work and hope you get your job back... Shah from 🇬🇧

Yep, just learned this last night. You can also drag to 2nd monitor.
This is great I use this on my FS 10 and it makes using the instrument and buttons so much easier.
Holy crap you just saved me a *ton* of aggravation!

An FPS killer on m PC.
This is amazing! Please continue to bless us with more MFS2020 videos!!
Hey great video Emilie! I love this sim and learning a lot form all these youtube videos!! at some point i wanna try the auto pilot
34:10 airshow? Went from a ridiculous bank angle to a military unrestricted climb.
First thought the sim is crazy to clear a takeoff for some AIs when someone's coming in and cleared for landing, but that must have been another simmer :D
Is ILS for an instrument landing in zero visibility that accurate? Plus I loved seeing random pilots flying weirdly all over the place.
It's still the most accurate (ILS CAT II & CAT III)!
Gotta love someone who puts there gear in the description thanks Emilie
Hello Capt. Emilie, I am sure you have heard this many times before but............you are a breath of fresh air in Flight Simming! very enjoyable in so many ways. Subscribed.
Thank you so much 😊

High quality tutorial! Very detailed and yet super clear. Thanks!
When setting up your flight, you can choose to turn off other players in the same menu as time and weather. Save you the distraction for tutorials 👍🏽
Good video, sucks msfs really missed the mark on the g1000. No obs mode, Direct to doesnt work well, etc. I guess im a g1 snob though as its all i fly irl. hahaha. keep it up!
Thanks Emilie, great tutorial. Keep them coming, you have a very nice way of explaining things.

Wow, you're lovely Emelie! Hope you do more tutorials in the near future! My dream is to work with ATC eventually, but I'll have to settle for this Flight Sim for now :)
Hey there! Getting a kick out of your videos lately. I'm at AC on the 787 now but I love watching the Dash-8 stuff - gives me the feels from when I flew it :) Keep up the good work (loving the flight sim videos too - just downloaded FS2020 and full expect to fail multiple times lol). Hoping for a speedy return to work for you and all your Encore buds!
I live in Vancouver too! Just downloading the sim and can’t wait to do some bush trips up north! Your channel is great! Subscribed.
Hi Emilie, your tutorials/videos are so interesting and informative. Looking forward to more. ✈
Hello Emilie, Your flight and the video conversations were so synchronized.. You just borne for blue skies .. 😍😍
Can't stop watching your videos!

Very cool vid! Love that flight since I am in Van and have done that flight. Really impressed by the new simulator by Microsoft. Keep them coming Emilie.
Excellent video! For us newbies to the G1000, it is thoroughly explained! Next, do VNAV tutorial, please ;)
Hi Emilie. I live up in the hills overlooking YLW. Thank you for taking the time to explain G1000.
Just a thank you for your videos. They are well thought out and easy to follow and often have content that other videos do not.
Thanks so much for the video I'm still learning I just got the GPS figured out in FSX on how to program approaches so this is another whole ball game
Really helpful video. Had to start again a few times over because my plane went a bit crazy when I paused and I couldn’t recover from it. Also for some reason wasn’t able to set the vertical speed; it kept on randomly changing. Luckily the plane just kinda did it’s own thing on the way down to the runway and somehow got over threshold. I’ll give it another go in the morning.
Great to be back in Victoria 🇨🇦 🇨🇦 🇨🇦
That was AWESOME! Thanks so much 🤓❤️🤗🛬
Finally i know what those screens are showing , thanks!
Very instructive, thanks Emilie!
Cool and thanks for the tutorial Emilie. Followed along on my iPad while flying. I will surprise my instructor with my new found knowledge. LOL
Really refreshing, and un-boring, tutorial. Love it! Love the personality, while still being knowledgeable and informative.
Learning about the FMS is great, but I would love to see your take on the basics.
Perhaps talk us through some takeoffs and landings, traffic patterns, any "pro-tips" and experiences from IRL that may be relevant to the sim (if any)?
I dream of getting a pilots license someday, would be great if you could share any sim tips to better prepare other aspiring private pilots.
Great work, though. Keep it up.
Lol, nice video cap....as I've been playing this sim for weeks and I didn't know that these IFR options even existed, within the flight planning screen!!!
Looks like my sim world experiance has just become simpler...thanks.....👍
