Thanks Kevin. They are pretty dependable.
I think that they must look awesome on the dinner plate. Just love the colour. Have a marvellous day
Yes they do, but they aren't on there very long.
They do look strange for a carrot. Have a great day. Best wishes Bob.
Thanks Bob! Yep, they do look a little strange.
Very nice carrot harvest! Those look so tasty. Never grew or tried these before. Looks like they grow very well in your beds. Keep up the great work!
Thanks! They seem to like it here. Very dependable, with a few going to seed first year.
Good harvest! Have a nice day Mr. Jim!
Thanks Catalin. You have a nice day too!
Wow, those are great looking carrots, Jim!
Thanks Patrick! I really appreciate you dropping by and taking the time to comment. For our area, these seem to be a very dependable producer.
getting the camera out and taking some pictures...I would too! Great looking crop Jim
Thanks Duke!
Hey Jim, nice harvest, those are some good looking carrots. T
Thanks T. They are kind of pretty.
I grow some similar every year and the colour always amazes me! Nice haul, friend:)
Thanks! I agree....they are pretty amazing to look at.
Beautiful harvest!
Thanks Susan!
great looking beautiful carrot with fantastic results !! thanks for sharing your knowledge and experiences and as always happy growing !!
Thanks! They are fun to grow, and have pretty good harvests too.
Amazing harvest!
Thank you very much!
Such a pretty carrot! Very nice harvest. Take Care, Peaches :)
Thanks Peaches! Yes, they are easy on the eyes.
beautiful color! I bet they're going to be sooo sweet
Thanks! Yep, that color is pretty easy on the eyes. We love this variety in salads, and we will cook the rest. They are much sweeter if harvested in the fall when it starts getting colder.
Hi Jim, except for the fat plump carrot that broke, all others looked perfectly fine, Beautiful Harvest as always ☺
Thanks Sue! I'm happy with it.
I have a hard time with carrots that aren't orange lol. But I can't help but think the color is pretty.👍
Yep, they are a little hard to get used to, lol.
Lmao!! " shorter, fatter and uglier "! Those look so pretty! I really like the little basket😊
Lol, I could have been describing myself, except I'm tall.
Midwest Gardener lol 😂😂😂😂😂
They are really nice looking carrots, if I remember rightly did you grow these last year as well
Thanks Mick! Yes, I grew these last year and saved seed also. These were grown from the seeds I saved.
Such an attractive color
Yes, they are cool to look at.
what ya gonna do with all those carrots? are good tasting. you made up my mind what to plant in an extra row. had several bunches from the seed you sent. thank you now I will grow more. enjoy.
They aren't my favorite carrot for eating raw by themselves, but they seem to grow really well here and I like them cooked and in salads. And they are kind of neat to look at too.
I want to try This Dragon Carrot Risotto I seen in a Movie Called "The Fault In Our Stars".. And I Never tried the Purple Carrot before. Looks Soooooo Friggin Delicious! Yum. Thanks,.. 👍💜💜💜🥕🥕🥕🍇🍆🌱🌱🌱🥕🥕🥕👍
You're welcome! Yes, you should give them a try. They are very good.
@@MidwestGardener Thank you.. 👍🥕🥕🥕
Excellent video! Two questions: How do you know when to pull the carrots from the ground? What are your preferred carrots to eat raw?
I usually go by the diameter of the top of the carrot. Then sometimes you just have to pull one or two just to see what you have. Scarlet Nantes is one I like for eating raw. I'm trying another one this year that I'm hoping that I might like even better. It's called St. Valery.
What beautiful purple carrots! We only have the orange kind here in Malaysia so never seen or tasted these before. How does the taste differ from each other?
Thanks! The taste is hard to describe, but there are subtle differences between the different carrot types. I think these go really well in salads. But we cook them too.
Midwest Gardener - Thank you for replying☺
You're welcome. Thanks for watching.
Dang it you! Have the seeds for these and planned on doing them this year, but never got a chance with so much going on right now. Great job. Any advice on getting a good production from these out of containers perhaps? I am in a very hot and dry climate, but am able to manage my soil/moisture well out of container gardening. Worry that they won't grow well in this scenario though as container gardening can be tricky with large rooting vegetables. My onions after 2 years just couldn't expand even with wide spacing and loose soil. Was curious though as yours seam to have done well even pretty close together. Thanks for the vid!
Thanks! I think that these really like the sandy loam soil that is underneath those wood chips. They seem to like loose well drained soil, but that means that it won't hold moisture as well. When I plant them close together, I get a mix of sizes. Some big, and some small.
Awesome advice. Thanks a ton! Will look into making a looser sandy soil for these. Might try it this year as we seem to have an extra warm month or two in this zone. One more question if you could? How long from seed to harvest were yours? Were these holdovers from last year or from seed to harvest this year alone?
Those were from seed to harvest this year. I planted them in early April or late March.
Thanks again.
Is it to late to start carrots? Yours are beautiful.
Thanks! You can plant for a fall crop of them. They are sweeter when you harvest in cooler weather.
Hey Jim! I had a question about my corn. At the bottom of everyday it is starting to turn transparent and I couldn't find any solution to it. The top of the leaves are still green yet I haven't checked since yesterday. If you could help me that would be great!
Well, that's a new one for me. I don't really know about that, but if I run across any information on it, I'll let you know.
Alright, thanks. Hopefully I can find a solution
I suppose if I can't find anything I just wait it out. Maybe it is some sorta pest? I should pick up some neem oil
True. Sometimes things change if given a little time.
Hey Jim, if you have any carrots left, try this salad:
Shred about 3 or 4 carrots
Shred some cabbage
Chop some dill
Add salt and apple vinegar to taste
It makes a very nice refreshing summer salad
... in case you want to try something Bulgarian 😍
Thanks for the salad recipe. I'll have to talk to my head salad cook :) We have everything but the cabbage.
Midwest Gardener you can do without it. The cabbage is to make it a bit more fluffy; it keeps the carrots from sticking together :)
Ok, thanks!!
hard to get out? best trick i know so far is if you push it down a little and pull its a lot easier
Thanks for the tip, Alex! I will have to give that a try. If it work out, I might just do a video on it and give you credit. Thanks again!
They do make a pretty picture . What are your favourite varieties so far ?
Of course, this isn't the best time to harvest carrots. They taste much better here in the fall. I like what I've seen of Koral so far. The purple dragons are a good dependable carrot for our area though.
Sir when did you plant the seeds what month
I usually plant carrot seeds somewhere around the first of April, depending on what the weather is like around here.
@@MidwestGardener thank you sir that gives me a good idea I'm in Central Florida I'm new to growing carrots I would like to try these and Uzbek carrots thank you for your time
