Not from the States myself, but AFAIK, rimfire cartridges are way cheaper. Considering it this way, 17WSM impressed me a lot, because Hornets are centerfire, so designed to take more pressure and more expensive too. SuperMag FTW!
Impact tests were a little flawed, but impact craters were very telling! Thank you for speed testing though- very nice to validate box info & ballistics. Those 2 rounds answer almost any small game question ever asked. I would be very happy with a gun collection of only these 2 chambered rounds. Seriously.
The video was really great! The .17 WSM 20gr. is a great little round shooting over 3000 fps! The .17 Hornet 25gr. has quite the punch at a 100 yds.! Cost of the .17 WSM is less expensive. The cost of the .17 Hornet is right up there with the 22-250 . . . A matter personal preference?
.17 hornet was mighty impressive! Personally, if .17 wsm can be bought cheaper, it makes more sense as a lightweight cartridge in the 500 joule area. If I want something larger, I'll jump all the way to 3.000 joules with something like the Swift, and after that, all the way up to 18.000 joules with .50 BMG (which I can't afford for now).
Impact points are at different radii between the fulcrum of the spinner and its target plate Does this not affect the speed of the spinner reaction? Cheers from Downunder🙂
i am more interested in how much louder they are. The best way to locate invasive ground squirrels in my area are to listen for them rustling through the brush at close range. Will the 17 hornet require ear pro? will the 17wsm not require ear pro?
No doubt the Hornet is hitting harder but its a Center fire vs a hot Rim Fire. I have a .17 wsm its a great little gun, accurate too. The spinner experiment was a bit off since the higher you hit the less it will spin and all your shots after the big 4 spin round were much higher giving a false impression that they were weaker.
The only thing I would suggest is to display these numbers on the screen , level of elevations , what the manufacturer claims , what is the average speed .
Next time just put out a steel plate and measure the "craters." P.O. Ackley noted that his experience proved that a .220 Swift was the most deadly caliber ever produced for deer and similar-sized game. In addition to some extensive shooting tests on animals, findings by firing two 48-grain bullets from a 220 Swift into half-inch armor plate on the front of a U.S. Army half-track. He also fired 100-grain bullets from a .270 Winchester and armor-piercing rounds from a government .30-06. The results were amazing. Both of the .220 Swift factory loads penetrated completely through the half-inch armor plate, leaving holes approximately 3⁄8 inch in diameter. The 100-grain .270 bullets managed no penetration whatsoever, leaving only shiny spots on the armor plate, and the .30-06 armor-piercing bullets made only shallow craters. The proof is in the size of the hole.
That's good stuff 😂 what's the odds, it's like that once in a lifetime shot on the golf course when you hit a hole in one on a par 3 or a super long chip shot right in the cup !!

17 Hornet with Hole-in-Hole performance even with different wt. bullets! Couldn't script it better!

Miss your videos..
How did I miss this one!
That's AWSOME..
Think I may have a deal to buy a 17 wsm..

WOW Best Robin Hood/Clean Living shot I have ever seen! 5:00
Thank you. I think the credit goes to a higher power on that shot...

Chris Prucha ...the 17wsm is loud..after a few shots you won't hear the rustling in the grass without protection....hearing protection is a must.
They are both plenty loud enough to require hearing protection.

I am at about 600ft elevation and get about the same velocities on both 17wsm rounds.
The only thing I would suggest is to display these numbers on the screen , level of elevations , what the manufacturer claims , what is the average speed .
Love my .17wsm Savage. Got to restock with Boyd’s soon. Great prairie dog rifle and so so coyote rifle.

it all depends on if you use a 20 inch or 24 ,26 ,28 inch makes a big difference

Man power for 17 unreal wow
How thick is that steel??
Looked like 3/8"
same impact point, cool
There is a faster 17wsm round out there now. It is supposedly 3300 at the muzzle.
rjonzen34 I think your hearing fake news bud..
show us???
They make a 15 grain lead free ammo that is rated 3300 fps
Shayne Adams thanks, at least you have a brain!

Apples & Oranges
THAT IS FUNNY !!!!
Totally incorrect way to try and measure energy
have you ever heard of a ballistic pendulum?
