    Interesting. The 168 grain 308 could lift a 47 lb jug off the ground and still go straight through it. Then the 556 NATO destroyed the same water 47 lb jug. So my last deer hunt in Nevada was 3 of us, spotted deer across a valley draw uphill shot. I shot my 168 grain 308 deer fell dead about 5yds. My friend hit his deer with 7mm dead about 5 yards. Our 3 friend had a range finder. 826 yard shots. Guess what l am getting at is, what ever you like 223,556,247,308,30:30,30’6, if you hit what your aiming at its going down dead.

    The 556 really surprised me. Is it possible that there was no exit channel? Just the bullet streaking around inside releasing it's energy? I'm not sure. Baffled by the 556.

  • @arthurshingler2025
    @arthurshingler2025 4 дні тому

    Ok. Now I know what each of those bullets are capable of. The 5.56 bullet likely went to pieces, which is why it dissipated ALL of its energy to the jug and its water. Impressive. BUT.... I've seen it before...so I'm not too surprised. But for my "money".... I'll stick with the 308's 147 gr. FMJ, even though it held together better than the .22 caliber hollow point. The 147 gr. 30 caliber showed very good hydrostatic shock, without expending all its energy to the jug...like the .223's bullet did. Still, all three did their job. They killed or at least...severely wounded the water jug! So now I feel a lot more thirsty than I did 20 minutes ago! I think I'll go get a beer from the fridge! Good job with this video and demo!

    .380 seems to be the borderline between whether a caliber is a mouse caliber. I don't consider .380 a mouse caliber but some do. .32 and .22 are although they can still be deadly of course. I prefer pocket carry and when I carry it's my Bodyguard .380 with Hornady XTP rounds (Am Gunner or Custom). I've just ordered a P-32, though, just because I think it's an interesting pistol. It won't replace the BG for carry.

    Very informative but I would like, at the end of this video, an "in conclusion" statement. I was looking for information like yours to confirm that the, (and I happen to use the same ammo too ) that for home defense out to 100 yards - at best the difference is minimal on a (bad guy) human target. All in all though I like your testing methods.

    That was a great presentation and it was very interesting. Why don't do add a recap to the video tell how the bullets meet your expectations or did not meet them. What did you learn from the your exploration that either proved or disproved the original information? For all your hard work I'm surprised that you have only had 20 comments on this fine video after two years. Put it out again with a recap and see how it does. ,

    It might be nice to also do another video using 55 grain 5.56 and 62 grain green tip. The only reason I mentioned that is those are the two most cheap and available animals you typically see for civilian purchase from what I’ve seen from this video, obviously the more exotic and expensive 77 grade doesn’t amazing job but how does that compare to the 55 and 62 grain that those two don’t perform 147 grain 7.62 x 51 did very very well and if all you could find is cheap ammo, it be nice to see if it’s better to do 308 or 556

    Thanks for the video. When I was younger I was more willing to vary my clothing to cover up my larger caliber carry guns; but as I get older, the discomfort of a fat double stack pressed against my hip bone is a bit much, especially in these desert summers. I’m looking for an appropriate summer gun that I can conceal in comfortable clothes, and the .32 or .380 will be the likely choice, Keltec P32 or Ruger LCP MAX…… I’m still wishing Ruger had continued their trend from Max9 through LCP Max, and landed on LCP32 Max. Imagine the LCP Max in a 32ACP, Ruger could probably have 12 rounds and less than .75” at the widest…… #Ruger #SturmRuger #RugerRnD

    Had been trying out the 185 juggernauts from a 24in 308 and was getting great accuracy but according to people online they were great for hunting too. So i shot a 2ltr full of water at 400 and it just went straight through without even knocking it over. Now a big heavy otm thats kind of what i expected. But we had a doe walk out at 400y that was tore up by coyotes and only had the kids 223 with 55gr vmax at the time, my brother put one right in the boiler room and dropped it instantly. The exit would was the size of a nerf football and massive damage. I think at 400y the velocity had dropped enough to make it act more like a soft point rather than fragment like a varmint round. Thought it was pretty interesting to see that at 400y i would be better off with a 223 and varmint rounds over a 308 with 185gr otms lol

    Just a thought, use a standard .223rem 55gr instead of the 5.56NATO. The only reason being that so many folks confuse the two, and as you know .... if/when they comment they are surely the expert. Just thought it would add (some) closure. Thanks for all of your vids, wife and I enjoy. God bless you and family. Ozo

    If at all possible a retest of this using 16 inch barrels for both 5.56 and 7.62 but using M855A1 EPR for the 5.56 and M80A1 EPR for the 7.62, as well as a 20 inch barrel test using the same bullets would be interesting to see. The reason why I suggest a 20 inch barrel test is that is what 5.56 was designed for, and 16 inch is standard civilian carbine length so you don't have to SBR it, unless you already have the SBR tax stamp taken care of. Excellent video.

    Its because all the lighter weight 5.56/223 energy was dumped into the jug vs the 308 penetraing all the way through with still massive energy left.
