Tamas has to be one of the busiest men around, releasing albums consistently (and of a consistent high quality), publishing poetry and photography. He is an absolute genius.
Thy Catafalque is absolutely brilliant! Greetings from Republic of Moldova and Romania!
If anyone wonders, here are some approximate translations of the titles, and the ones confirmed by the band as well.
00:00 Hajnali csillag - Dawn star
8:14 Szamojéd freskó - Samoyedic fresco (official translation by the band)
12:16 Töltés - Rampart. (The man-made kind of rampart on which the railroad lays.) (official translation by the band)
16:42 Gőte - Newt (You can really hear the playful and quick motions of a newt embodied in the music. I just love that.)
19:52 Sárember - Mud Man (official transl.)
26:34 Hajó - Ship
29:10 Lágyrész - Mesenchyme. (Maybe. I did not found any convincing translations, but I think Mesenchyme is the one. It is a type of connective tissue, that is for sure. In Hungarian, "Lágyrész" literally means "soft part", so it has a more friendly name, and kind of a poetic sound to it.)
34:03 Sík - Plain
37:50 Balra a nap - The Sun on the left (It is a quote from a well-known Hungarian little poem that teaches small children the four points of the compass. For elaborate explanation see my reply below.)
42:57 Tenger, tenger - Sea, sea
47:48 Ének a búzamezőkről - A song from the wheat fields / A song about the wheat fields. (The grammar makes it ambiguous, however based on the lyrics, it might be more like the later one. "Búzamező, jaj hogy sajog szívem érted!" which means "Wheat field, my heart aches for you." Also, the title is taken from the novel with the same name, written by one of the greatest Hungarian writers, Móra Ferenc.)
Sík may also mean plane (as in geometry)
I am listening by random, never heard of you guys so far. Incredible stuff!
@@petereisele5307 I am not a member of the band, just a fan. :-) They are incredible indeed! The mastermind behind the band is Tamás Kátai (and János Juhász too on older albums), who usually invites several other musicians aswell on each album. So technically its a one-man band + guests.
Thank you for the titel translations! I'd love to have lyrical translations for al thy catafalque songs, that would be really nice. Amazing band, very talented musicians, the albums are diverse sounding with smart and well done genre-integrations, I absolutely love it.
"Balra a nap" elaboration: it is a quote from a little rhyme that is very well-known in Hungary. This rhyme is used to teach little children the four points of the compass. It is like a little poem, and a bit more poetic than my translation suggests.
"Előttem van észak,
Hátam mögött dél,
Balra a nap nyugszik,
Jobbra pedig kél."
"North is in front of me,
South is behind me,
On the left the Sun sets,
On the right it rises."
Napnyugta = sunset. "Nyugta" has the connotation that the sun not only sets, but literally lays down, sets down, calms down (nyugszik, lenyugszik), like someone going to bed at night. In Hungarian, west is called "nyugat", the place where the Sun goes to sleep at night.
By the same logic, napkelte = sunrise. "Kelte" has the connotation that the sun not only rises, but literally gets up (kel, felkel), like someone in the morning would get up from bed. So east is called "kelet", the place where the Sun wakes up, gets up in the morning.
So, these two directions are named directly after the Sun's "behaviour in the morning and at night". The poem utilises this too.
The song title evokes both nostalgic feelings about childhood because of the little poem, and it is also generally a part of Hungarian culture.
The lines "Balra a nap nyugszik" and "Jobbra pedig kél" can be heard sung repeatedly in the song from 41:37.
"Geometria" + "Roka hasa radio" + "Rengeteg" = three masterpiece albums, beyond the rating scale.
To this day I don't quite understand the meaning of Roka Hasa Radio, it literally means "Fox belly radio", but I find it strangely poetic.
@@joaoalbertoni4406 It's just a playful saying from Kátai's childhood.
far beyond metal...this is pure genius.
It's amazing that an album with this much variety can still sound so cohesive. Tamás never disappoints.
This gets better with every listen... just bought 'Naiv' too, so impressed by where Tamas has taken his sound. Season Of Mist you well-scouting legends!
Never heard of this band before, random UA-cam stumble. Very impressed by the level of composition and the female vocals are divine!
Same here. Sometimes, UA-cam just knows.
OK, this One is among the best metal albums I have ever heard.
Tamas never dissapoints, shame that Thy Catafalque are not popular, they deserve more recognition
People always say this about every band that isn't in the current top 40 - but If you mean relatively popular (i.e. within the progressive/black/post metal scene), then yeah I fully agree
totally agree with you
He may not be the big talk of the year yet but ever since he dropped this album hes actually raised a pretty large following within the last year
Why?
@@timeslowingdown Thy Catafalque is not a Post Metal band, they play Avant-garde.
The album of the highest magnitude.
First time listening to this band. Wow, this blew my mind.
yes man! exactly
this is my first time listening to Thy Catafalque, and this is amazing!! definitely gonna pick this up and check out their older stuff as well!
same, i have no idea how i managed to miss them until now. Such an incredible band
strangeradios , me too. 😊👍
Spoiler: There are no bad releases Tamas worked on. Check Gire, Towards Rusted Soil, Neolunar and Katai Tamas solo as well. Missing any of them is wasteful for your general happiness.
My humble request to you.. Please please listen to piroshatu by thy catafalque.....i heard this 8 years ago and still get mesmerized when i listen to it today
Same!
can't stop listening to hajnali csillag
the same
This is one of the most stunning things I've ever heard. I don't say that lightly! So musically diverse, yet it has a 'flow' to it. Makes me wanna learn Hungarian just so I can understand it better. Well fucking done Tamas!!
Thank you for such a blessing. First time hearing this band and bought their album right away after 20 minutes of listening to this masterpiece. Now I just need to find someone who's native on this language in order to help me on translation part.
Message me if you still need someone to help translate
@@sandorolah2169 Well, I could use some help.
Köszönöm Tamás a fantasztikus élményt.
Ja, és csodásak a képek a bookletben, gratulálok!
Bakeliten hallgatva még jobb. ;)
hú, ilyen jó eladások vannak? akkor érdemes ilyen zenét csinálni! :) (nem viccelek, komoly)
1039. :)
The moment you hear the jazzy drums kicking in at the beginning, you know you're in for a very unique album.
If anyone asks what I like about avantgarde and progressive music - this album is the answer. Absolutley brilliant
omg! is this celestial neo-folk metal-what?! epic!!
album of the year so far no doubt
A real masterpiece.
I'm glad SOM signs many different types of artists. Their roster is pretty diverse. Very cool music
Great ! Great ! Awesome ! Genius ! Perfect ! IS that what the world needs to hear ... finally something new ... 24 years listening metal every day, at this level all i need is something new ...
Very interessting Music Style.
nice work! greetings from Romania
Néma könnycseppet morzsolok... Csodás a Kátai művek új eposza. :) Respect Tamás, respect!
One finely tuned band. Always enjoy all their total body of works. Hail the Heavy!!
Zseniális! Az album természetesen megrendelve! :)
Egyszerűen belém folytotta a szavakat !
nocsak
Muszáj megjegyeznem, hogy a fojtani pontos j-vel íródik. Bocsi.
Soma Mányoki
Rendben. Jogos. Köszönöm :)
Nem tudom D:
Considering that I love so much albums like Roka, Sgurr and Meta, I don't know at all how it is possible that Geometria is slowly becoming my favorite one... It is like a step forward into the perfect album ! :)
You got it pal! go back in time and give a few spins to "Tűnő Idő Tárlat" as well, brilliant.
Instantly hooked by that buildup at the beginning!
What an amazing and unique atmosphere
The second song came as a shock, but positively surprised.
Violins, psychedelia, jazzy vibes, techno, metal and Doom fitting perfectly together. What else?
Wow!!!
Which planet Tamas cames from?
😂
jungle drums and beat on the back
Incredible work, I'm very impressed. Thank you for posting this.
Toltes is such a trippy song and transition from Szamojed Fresko..
That band never dissapoints!
Gőte is superb, you can recognize lots of reminiscences from previous TC albums and Neolunar
I love the drums on Hajnali csillag 🌟
Tenger, tenger is like az an exit music for a film. My favourite one at the moment.
Incredible album
Zseniális lemez.Ismét.
There is so much to love from this record.
Such an incredible album. Not quite what I expected after the first single, but then again, Tamas Katai can write anything and I'll love it.
Amazing listening experience as always with this band.
This is just good musicians making good music. This is so awesome.
I'm in love with this album. As soon I get a turntable I'm getting a vinyl.
Elképesztően zseniális album az elejétől a végéig!
This is some really kick ass Prog Metal. Thank You!
Thy Catafalque are more than just prog metal. It is everything compressed into just a few albums. Tamas Katai lives and breathes geniusness
Avant-garde master!
This is the first album in years to really bring joy to these bones.
I've listened to the latest 4 albums, and this is my pick, avant-garde rules! It's a pleasure to listen!
Magic!
llegué hasta aquí por Amusia , gran recomendación.
Consistent Album... Good job guys ✌
12:05 - 12:16
That transition between songs is just...
👌😩💦
Quite ingenius stuff ! The vibe going on throughout this album is unlike any I have felt in recent years, as far as heavy music goes. Gimme this any day of the week instead of all that overly polished hipster 'metal' that seems to be the standard way to go these days. This is addictive 🤘
Breathtaking 😯🤓🤘
Jó anyag! Gratulálok!
Wowwwwww.... Excelente.... Saludos desde Monterrey Nuevo Leon Mexico
A "Lágyrész" nem is olyan lágy rész!:-)
amazing album
Nagyon jó lett ez az album is!
Superb really good!
Amazing album
That "A Forest of Stars" vibe at 9:45
true !
"A Forest of Stars" sure is an awesome band too. It is true that they share some "common values" with TC.
Great!!!
Listen it from Brazil after spotify A.I. introduced me to this and boy, its vicious.
Check out the full list of albums, also they just dropped the last one on the 25th this month, oh man!! Astonishing!!!!
Una obra de arte en todo sentido
Great Album!
ART.
wow, what an album
Megint... Róka hasa óta minden albumukat rongyosra hallgattam, ezt is megrendelem!
Amazing..!!
Very nice.
A vokál isteni....telitalálat volt a választás. :-)
OOOhh .. just what i've been looking for, a mars volta ish DM band. Very nice indeed.
Az év albuma!
This reminds me of Hail spirit noir. Somehow different but in the same prog mood. Brilliant
I'm pretty sure Tamas' works influenced the guys from HSN
a great record :)
Extázis. ♥
Yep 😁
Amazing stuff! That is first time, I hear this Art from Hungary, well done 🙂 (Polak, Węgier dwa bratanki i do muzy i do szklanki 🤘)
bellissimo ...
EPIK!
i wonder if the sax sounds are actually a Torogato a wood soprano sax from hungary.
Not a prog fan by any stretch, but this is a very interesting, diverse and well composed album. It manages to retain that contemplative and ethereal quality of post black metal, but at the same time not sound improvisational.
Very nice :)
Nagyon jo!
Since the first listening I made a consequence in my mind. Tamas goes to something like jazz fusion. There's not too much avant-garde metal/black/melodic effects like in the past. Nothing compares to META, but it's better instead listening to Arcturus...
POWER , POWER , POWER !
Roka Hasa Radio!
top of my down! :)
