I get my first violin tomorrow (i'm a 57 year old self learning beginner) I hope I'm even a tiny bit as good as you are in the years to come, you're wonderfully talented! 👍🏻🎻
Thank you very much for your kind words! Honestly age is but a number. I'm a part of an adults beginner orchestra and the majority of the members are as of the same age as you learning from scratch. They have all progressed wonderfully through their dedication and I just find that the most magical thing. All the very best with your journey ahead of you!
Your bow technique, intonation and vibrato are amazing for someone who's only played 3 years. I'm particularly impressed by how rich and full your tone is. Well done :)!
Thank you very much for your kind and encouraging words. I'm extremely proud of myself for the commitment I've put into learning the violin. I couldn't have gotten this far without my passion and hard HARD work!
Such a nice progression!!! Can tell from the position of your hands that you feel very confident now. A variety of material also helped you learn the technique and all. Well done, Peter!
Thank you very much! I'm looking forward to many more years to come 😁 All the best with your journey also, I'd love to hear you play if you have any content to share 😉
wow your progress is fantastic! wish I had done some more recording of my progress since i started relearning(not an adult beginner but returning student) it's great to be able to look back and really see the improvement!
Thank you very much! I've seen so many videos like this over the years and I had to. I agree with you it's really good to look back on. Good on you for picking up the violin again, all the best with it!
Wow, so many pieces I didn't hear you play before and they all sound amazing!🤩 It's still unbelievable for me how you developed such a great phrasing and tone in such a short time! And although you were so busy recently, you still progressed a lot 👏👏
@@peterquanmusic I trust you've found an orchestra or quartet. Making music with others is fun. Your progress is Amazing, and I'm a retired viola teacher.
@@Lepewhi Yes I have, I've been a part of an adults beginner orchestra for over a year now and I'm proudly the lead for the second violins 😄 I 100% agree, there's nothing that can beat the feeling of making music with others. I love my orchestra and I love this journey I've embarked on 😁🎻 Thank you again, that's a high compliment coming from a teacher!
That’s amazing! I’m definitely inspired by your work in this video. I’m currently a beginner and I’ve been playing since July 2022. I’m working on Suzuki book 4, on the third piece (Seitz concerto 5, 3rd movement), and it’s definitely one of the hardest pieces I’ve played
Thank you very much! Nice, the Suzuki Books are great. I'm also still learning from the 4th book with my teacher, I'm on the first Vivaldi piece. All the best!
Excellent work!! That's amazing dedication. Have you considered playing in a community orchestra? They are a ton of fun and you get to explore orchestra repertoire.
Thank you very much, that's very kind of you 😊 I will have to wait until my 4th anniversary in October to make another one like this. I'm planning on filming a vlog of me learning pieces hopefully soon. Stay tuned! 😄
Ohhh amazinggg dang itt your talented Its been 2 years and 10 months since i started but still falling behind in most of the skills cz i cant find someone to play or practice with
Thank you very much 😁 I've seen some of your violin videos and you're doing great, I admire the tone you make with your instrument 👏 Keep up the good work and enjoy it 😄
Thank you very much! I would say observing professionals or players who are much better than me has really helped. I love analysing how they all get such a rich sound and I apply this to my own playing. Also having a teacher also helped by far. Mine has given me a ton of tips and tricks to gain a better sound quality from my instrument. Of course I achieved what I have from HARD work!
Thank you for your kind words 🙂Don't compare and sell yourself short, everyone's time and situations are always different! The fact that you're already in an orchestra is already awesome to me! All the best with everything 😁
Is violin your first instrument? I've been playing for 2 years now and it was tough in the beginning even tho its not my first stringed instrument Its for sure impressive how well you progressed, i respect how ambitionous you are and you should be proud of yourself
Thank you very much! My first instrument was piano which I studied for about 9-10 years. I'm also self-taught with guitar so I have a very musical background. Violin was still super tough at the beginning as you've also experienced but I'm enjoying every bit of the journey 🙂
@@peterquanmusic Oh, what a coincidence! I've learned e-guitar for 10 years and I currently learning piano. So we have some things in common ;) Yes the journey is becomming more and more fun as I struggle less and feel more confident in my playing. Good luck and keep it up!
Very nice! Look at you doing vibrato at only 1 year. I'm an adult learner that has been playing for about 10 months. Do you have any advice for me? I'm taking lessons and practicing an hour a day.
@@vagabond197979 Thank you very much! It's always lovely that other adult beginners are commenting on my video 😁 I'm very happy that you've embarked on this amazing journey. I would say that your practise hours are perfect, 1 hour a day is perfect for progression. The fact that you are taking lessons is also a massive help and essential I would say. My main piece of advice would be NOT to compare yourself to others, I really can't stress this enough. Enjoy playing for yourself and celebrate even the smallest of victories. I wish you all the best, hope to hear from you again 😄
Vibrato at year one?!? Please share tips, im at year one and a month rn too, i started with vibrato practice but tips/tricks and advice will be highly appreciated!😊
Well done you for taking on an incredible journey! 🎻 My teacher thankfully taught me early which I'm very grateful for. It's hard for me to give much advice in this comment but one thing that really helped me was developing my finger knuckle flexibility. It also really helped me to lean my violin scroll between a wall (make sure to use a cloth to protect your violin), this really helps to take the weight off.
I can’t believe it 😮 I’ve been learning since 2-3 years and didn’t even dare to start with vibrato. Can barely practice after work. What’s your secret??
My secret is dedication, passion and hard HARD work! I work from home mostly and during my early years I would practise during my lunch breaks and as soon as I finished work. Without me asking my teacher thankfully taught me vibrato within 5 months. I think she taught me a bit too well 🤣 All the best with your journey, I know you can do it!
Hi there, I got a lot of inspiration from UA-camrs and from listening to a load of violin concertos on Spotify. I found online tutorials okay during my self-taught stage, but once I found an in person teacher I didn't use many online sources. Oh amazing, I'm always inspired by people who return to their music instruments. All the best!

@@peterquanmusic That's impressive. I'm on day 1 of the violin. I played flute for 25 years though. I'm going to see if I can self teach through the holidays and see how that goes.
It's really good. Only bad thing I have to say is your fingers are resting way too high from the fingerboard. They need to travel much further than necessary to play a note. Could be more efficient.
Someone I find it hard to believe he is self taught and that his left hand was so relaxed for 7 months…. If it is real then good on ya! You are definitely a prodigy but if you are not please be truthful or a lot of people would be so discouraged at their own 7 months progress 😂
@@blancavalle1170Hello, I can assure you it's all 100% real. I've worked very hard to get to this point. It's amazing how far you can go when you're passionate 😉🎻

Before practicing always do your scales! It does wonders for your intonation.
I find a couple of pages of Sevcik seriously loosens up the hands and improves intonation.@@sandwitch61762
