I came in during the initial chess boom, but slightly later than most during it. I had seen snippets or heard about flagging situations etc., but when done against him it’d be hypocritical. I’m not a psychiatrist, but I think Hikaru has some Asperger like qualities. I recognize it because I have some slight ones at times too I feel like.

A lack of respect from Naka not taking the draw down a pawn with opposite color bishops. Nobody wants to see that kind of play for dozens of useless moves just trying to run the clock down .
If the strategy is over multiple games and this game can fatigue your opponent even if it ends in a tie… is a GOOD STRATEGY. He doesn’t have to have sportsmanship lmao, it’s appreciated but it’s not anywhere in the rules. If Hikaru wants to play it out cuz he knows he’s a better chess player and can try to force us opponent into mistakes. That’s just smart to me

When Hikaru was 12, he slapped another player named Akeem Gregory Thompson who retaliated by decking him in the face. Hikaru then cowered into a ball and later got his stepdad to formally intervene to have the kid Akeem kicked out of the tournament. You can look this story up. What a gigantic tool.

But uh he reached # 2 in classical chess in the world during his peak, is a 5 time US Champion and the 10th highest rated player in history. He might be considered the best short form chess players of all time, especially bullet. He just beat Magnus in the Chessable Masters Champions Chess tour and won the American Cup. He also won't improve much more because he is already getting "too old." It's kinda hard to make the argument here that the player who throws tantrums is not going to be as good as the calm and professional one
