It wasn't a real fork because Hikaru has rook G8 check, or he could force a trade of his rooks for the queen with rook E1 and win easily with three extra pawns.
It would allow Bxc5, followed by b4, anchoring the Bishop on an extremely dominant square where it can't be challenged by any pawns. Magnus would have to trade it for the knight, which is his only good piece, or alternatively his other rook. That's how I see it at least.
I honestly think one of the reasons magnus is so good is because his head is so clear, he doesnt get shook up by things he just remains calm, trusts the process and does what needs to be done.
If Hikaru sacrificed his bishop then he would be down 2 points (3 points [Bishop] minus 1 point [Pawn]) In exchange for the Queen (9 points), Hikaru got a Rook, Bishop and Pawn (all worth 9 points). So Hikaru was able to equalized and has a better *position* because of it.
I'm also a noob but I think it's because then white goes Re1 and the black Knight can't capture the other rook, if he captures then white goes Knight to D6 check and black loses the Queen.
Plugged it into analysis. Apparently Queen takes bishop is better than rook takes knight. When I took the knight the eval dropped by ~ 2 points. After rook takes knight, bishop takes pawn and over the next 10--20 moves your defense in front of your king falls apart.
I could sense Magnus' fear in his voice.. Weird.. I guess he felt like he is an underdog cause he's a newbie in streaming world.. He forgot that he is the GOAT in chess..
