I reached out to Kelly in '96 to sing some songs I had written. I mailed him the demo, and thankfully, he agreed to do so. My manager had studio time on the books in Nashville, so we went there and recorded 6 songs. We were never able to get a recording contract. That's a shame, because the world needed to hear this great singer do what he did best ; sing. He was the greatest singer and wonderful, funny, inspiring dude that I ever had the honor of working with. I uploaded those 6 songs on here under the name Perry/Holland Project. I was humbled to share with you all another opportunity to hear Kelly sing with his celestial voice. God Bless you brother, never forgotten.

+rick watson I got the downloadable CD the day it came out. So good having more of Kelly's stuff out there seeing as his back catalogue is unjustly small. With a voice like that, he should have been releasing his tenth album this year and should be pestered with calls to appear on other musician's albums. Talent like his is rare. I put Kelly up there with Paul Rodgers, Ray Gillen and Stevie Marriott. I used to run a Cry Of Love page on Myspace many years ago. I handed it over to someone else and I think it's still going. One day I got a message from Kelly saying "and who are you?". I thought he was pissed and was going to ask me to take the page down. Quite the opposite, he was so grateful and amazed that some kid in England had taken the time to create a page for his old band. We talked music: Free, Humble Pie etc and he told me to quit smoking (being a singer myself). Sadly, I never quit. Next year, Kelly, I promise you! Sail On, Brother, a true inspiration and a beautiful Soul. The world is a lesser place without you.

I'm from the Czech Republic and I listen to music A LOT, particularly any kind of rock or metal. There is a very, very long list of absolutely unbelievable singers and every one of them is unique in their own way (and I hate to compare or rate) but if I had to name one or two who are at the top for me personally, it's Kelly Holland and also Jack Russell from Great White, these two are absolute legends. Such a shame that Kelly passed away so young, but his art lives on.
I remember Kelly coming to Jag Studio in Raleigh, N.C. when me and the guys in Skracht Apple were doing our CD for Orlando Carter and C and O records. I asked Byron to call Kelly Holland and let me beg him to use a few snare drums, because he had some nice ones. kelly showed right up and brought me all these cool snare drums... one was a '62 I loved. He was the nicest guy... I begged him to sing on our stuff and he said "nah brother, I'd just mess it up" ... god I wish he'd messed it up. He hugged me bye, said "congratulations on your deal and he couldn't wait to check it out". I said love you brother, and thank you so much. He simply said "you too brother" and that's the last time I seen him. He had a smile on his face, wind at his back, and warmth in his heart. I like that Miss you my friend...greatly thanks again, and I'll see you again...
Kelly Holland had such a phenomenal voice and singing style! I totally agree with Jason's comment, about listening to this forever! By chance in July '94, I had gotten to meet Kelly, after a set they played at this small venue, in my home town of Omaha (Neb). I had already been immersed in their "Brother" album that had recently been released, and three of the songs from it had even made the Billboard chart! , I knew the words to every one of their songs, before, I had gotten to see them play live! So when I found out they were coming here, I knew I would be there! Didn't care that it was a week night, or the fact that I am a chick, who didn't go to bars by myself! Everyone I knew, couldn't get away that evening! But, I knew this guy, whom I worked with, and he worked at the club, part time, as a bouncer! So I decided at the last minute, that I was gonna go on the chance my friend was working that night, I knew, if (Kyle) were there he'd watch out for me! Turned out that he was there! and if it hadn't been for him,(God, rest his soul) I wouldn't have been able to meet Kelly, & Carl Patterson(C.O.L.), and get their autograph! and just to tell them, how fucking fantastic that this closet singer(myself!) and rock 'n roll enthusiast, thought they were!! I think, I was so in awe of them, that I even resorted to acting like a gushing, girl, groupie, and while Kelly was signing, what was the back of a pic, of the other band!( The Mother Station) that had opened up for Cry of Love, ( I had, had nothing on me in the way of paper & pen! ,So when Kyle had asked me if I would like to meet the band ? ( I guess my friend got that I must have really been into C.O.L., by the way I was standing on a chair, that he had grabbed for me, since it was a sold out show, and I couldn't get a good enough view of the bands from across the room! and I was standing on the chair, dancing and singing every song they played! I probably blew his mind, since he was used to seeing this conservative side of me, working our day job!) So , when he asked, did I want to meet the guy's? I said 'oh hell yes!" and proceeded back to where the band had gone, after their set, I looked around for something to get their autographs on, and here was a real nice promotional picture of 'The Mother Station" So I jumped up as high as I could! (w/ 3" heels!!) and grabbed it! I remember Kelly, saying when he happened to turn the pic over, "This, isn't even our band!" I 'm sure he thought I was a little strange! but, I explained the deal, I said"Hey,I will always know who you are" then had the girl groupie moment of telling him I knew the words to each one of their songs! "wow" !!! I'm sure he was thrilled!! He looked up from signing his autograph, and goes "Really?" oh yeah, we did see some girl way in the back, singing her ass off! "That was you??? Yep, that was me! They were a couple of cool dudes! I wished them the best, and again told them how exceptional they were, and went on my way. I looked at the picture when I got home, Kelly had signed his name with a smiley face added! I'm looking at the autograph right now, can't believe it's almost a year since Kelly passed away, and five, since my friend Kyle passed, that gave me the opportunity to meet two of the members of Cry of Love, one of the greatest rock bands, that sadly, flew under the radar of achieving the great success they so rightfully deserved. I hope there really is a rock 'n roll heaven . forever to be a shining star! R.I.P. Kelly & Kyle
janice kent great story. it really is a shame they broke up, they are one of the best classic rock bands of all time, fate should have served them better and let them produce a lot more great albums and tours for us all to enjoy

The band that opened up for Cry of Love, when I seen them, was The Mother Station, they had a lead singer(Susan Marshall) that was kick ass in her own right, kinda sounded like a Janis Joplin but, way better(sorry Janis!) they had a song that was getting a lot of airplay at the time, called "Put the blame on me'". And unfortunately, they ended up having the same fate, as C.O.L. Unbelievable to me, still to this day!

Glad to hear this track. Absolutely loved Cry Of Love Brother album, heard Peace Pipe on radio on holiday in Florida. Album came out in UK not long after I got home. Was lucky enough to see them live in Newcastle UK, fantastic gig and lovely guys. Was so gutted Kelly left and always thought it was a shame he never did anything else for us to hear. One of my all time favourite vocalists.

Today I remember 2 bands sounding something like COL did. Dirty Honey and Red Sky Mary (who no one knows), but Kelly was unique. Mason was good but Kel was pearly.
