  • Community Spotlight: Ayanna Melvin, a talented 15-year-old dancer, is using her passion for dance to make a difference in the world. "Dancing is everything to me. It's the feeling you get after you dance. Dance is a universal language," says Ayanna, emphasizing the power of dance to connect people.
Ayanna is not only a passionate dancer but also a dedicated dance instructor at the Sincere2000 Foundation, a non-profit organization founded in 2018 by her parents, Unique and Cheryl Melvin. The foundation's mission is to raise awareness about mental health and suicide prevention, a cause that holds a deep and personal connection for the Melvin family.
"Sincere Foundation was founded after my 17-year-old brother committed suicide so that maybe we can prevent other families from going through what we went through. We’re hoping that maybe a conversation can change someone's life," shares Ayanna, reflecting on the heart-wrenching experience that inspired the creation of the foundation.
Recently, the Sincere2000 Foundation celebrated the opening of a new building in Riviera Beach, where they offer dance classes for both youth and adults. These classes serve a dual purpose, not only providing a creative outlet for participants but also generating proceeds and donations to support mental health services for those in need.
One of the foundation's dance classes is led by professional dancer and choreographer Annalise Rodriquez, who has an impressive portfolio that includes working with artists like Bad Bunny, Chris Brown, and BTS. Annalise underscores the importance of raising awareness about mental health, especially in today's generation of social media. "Spreading love and light is really important," she says, emphasizing the positive impact that dance and self-expression can have on mental well-being.
"Expressing yourself is something a lot of people don’t get to do. With dance, it's such an easy outlet, a universal language. There are so many genres you can use to release your emotions. I'm very lucky that I get to do this," adds Annalise.
For Ayanna and her family, the mission goes beyond teaching dance moves. "I hope people walk away with a new sense of self. Dance is all about confidence, interacting with others, and being yourself," Ayanna remarks, highlighting the transformative potential of dance.
