MusicWorks - Grade 2.5
Composed for a band festival in Duluth, MN, and suggesting perhaps an exciting downhill ski run or possibly a snowmobile chase through the woods, Due North is a fast-paced overture written entirely in a single tempo. Along the way, various moods are suggested as themes and musical ideas are passed from section to section. The percussion section provides a driving, rhythmic pulse throughout.

Me and my best friend did this song a year before he completed suicide. Before that he transferred to a different school and asked the band director to play this song so they played this song for his memorial 🧡🧡

I went to the honor band at UMD that this was composed for and played clarinet in the group that got to perform it. Haven't heard it since my spring band concert last year, but I'm still in love with how it sounds.
When the bass drum hits at 1:09, it’s supposed to sound like that. I’m 99% sure with how hard our band’s percussion hits the drum it’ll break before we preform. I’m one of the closest instruments, and it sounds like a bomb.

It would depend on if your band would practice it. I don't play the clarinet but in my opinion it goes a little high.
+Oscat Hinojosa the clarinet has a alternate key that makes it seem as if they are blowing really hard, but they aren't. they are pressing the key. it actually depends on the level of your band. the play level. like 1,1&1/2,2,2&1/2. it goes up as well. so if your band is capable, then yeah

I played this song in the Dorian Middle School Band Camp at Luther College in Decorah Iowa. We had a week to practice this song along with five other. It was really fun. If you live anywhere near Decorah Iowa you should go to the band camp and honor band.
played this in my middle school wind ensemble as a 6th grader in 2023, as one of our pieces for the MICCA festival, wasn’t too hard but was probably one of the most entertaining pieces i’ve heard in concert band.
my middle school all county played this last year and it was amazing. I'm talking with my highschool bd about composing a marching band version and it's coming together great!!!
