Thank you, A real treat to have the man himself explain the engineering on the Veloster N. Hats off to Mr. Biermann for instilling $60,000+ worth of performance engineering in a $30,000 car.
Congratulations to Hyundai for keeping the passion alive and accessible.
A lot of parts were stolen off of the Optima for this car. And I'm not mad about it. Great way to make a cheap amazing car.
Paul Stabin too bad they spent $100 on the interior 😭😭😭
@@codymurphyfit9389 you're paying for performance and engine, not the interior.
Drake Robichaud true. I still love the car and would love to drive one but I ended up buying a 2017 Charger Scat Pack in January. Obviously not as good in the corners but a blast to drive in all other aspects
@@codymurphyfit9389 I've got a Speed3 (been down since Thanksgiving of 2018) and my wife drives a 15 R/T. I picked up an N this past weekend and freaking love this car.
I've owned Hyundais for the past 10 years and I tell you what, I've had ZERO issues with regards to repairs or dependability! After owning pretty much everything out there, Hyundai and the Genesis brand have really become a hidden gem! If people could get past the name you would save tons of $$$$ in maintenance! This Veloster N is epic and imagine...when the N Brand hits more Hyundai or Genesis models with their HTRAC AWD!!! Game Over!!
Sadly i'm the opposite...I've had quite a few issues with my 13 optima. The only thing that saved my butt was that was when they first started rolling out their amazing warranty
From my experience in 3 years (90,000 km)
-Heated seat failed (got a new heating element)
-Rear Passenger door latch failed (new latch)
-the 2.4L recall.....(I was super unlucky with this one, got a new short block)
-the transmission retune because of the gas complaints (this was painful, it made the tranny super lazy, and took ALL the fun out of it)
-started to drink oil (700ml every 1000km or so) [traded it in before i got around to dealing with this one]
From looking at the recent years, It seems Like most owners were not like me, So that's a good sign....Although I have a sneaking suspcision that the years I bought it, Hyundai/kia was pushing the limits a bit trying to get their name out (200hp 2.4, Ridiculous amounts of features for substantially less than others), And it seems that they really dialed it back in the years to come. i REALLY hope that by tuning it back up with the N they don't go back to those types of problems.
and a random trivia piece for some perspective of how ridiculous they were pushing the engineering side. The VN motor you see now was available in the same 275hp flavour on the kia back in 2013. and within 2 years they continually dialed back the power ever since
Really? That's surprising the genesis had so many problems they completely redesigned it the gearbox would literally explode lol
Thanks for a great interview with Mr. Biermann. He's much more interesting than the Ford engineers in the Ranger & Bullitt videos. And I never thought I'd hear a German engineer advocate "fun per dollar" (value).
As soon as I saw this car like 2 months ago I fell in love with it. Unfortunately I’m in high school and will have to wait. But until then reviews will have to do... sadly. Wait for me Hyundai, I’m coming!
Well done guys managed to get the man himself Albert Biermann to give a walkthrough on the car 👏👏👏
Cool. I'm waiting to see more high performance Hyundai & Kia development. They are stepping up the performance and luxury segment.
Most certainly. I own a 2016 Tucson Limited and I've actually had people mistake my car as an Audi!
Yes this is nice the shame is no spare tire for this car just a fix a flat kit that sucks big time.
Also do you only get theses tires at the dealer since they are (N) ones.
N Halo already given Green light.. will see this Super Car from Hyundai in next 1 or 2 year
The exhaust performance is awesome and crazy sound.
I wish we were getting the i30 instead of this compact hatch sedan hybrid thing. Velosters always looked weird to me. It would have been a lot nicer to have the Elantra GT/i30 with N spec.
I agree. id think about trading in my FiST for an i30 n spec!!!! the veloster is dead in america it was such a shitty want to be cool car. it failed miserably.. GIVE US THE i30!!!!!!! with alcantara suede interior i'd be willing to pay an extra 2 grand just for that interior HYUNDAI!!!!!!!!!!!!!! hear that?*^@!
in love with the color, been all about this color on cars for a long time and they are just now starting to implement this color on factory cars, many different companies as well i love it ice blue all day
And if it's the same as I30N, u get a long warranty that covers track use
well I got a extended warranty, tire warranty and windshield warranty
30k?!? There's going to be a surplus of Type-R filling-up the dealers prakinglot.
They are already starting to stack up. Look at cargurus for new ones. Dealers are finally getting rid of markups. Things are going to get real interesting these next few years.
Pars S this doesn’t compete with the typeR
Type-R might be a bit faster, but close enough for driver skill to be the big factor. It doesn't compare to the Si cause it'll annihilate that car so Type-R has to defend that crown. However, it'd be cool if there's dealer incentive for the Type-R... The Honda dealer by my house had 5 on a truck waiting to be dropped.
Actually, it does. Veloster N's sister car, I30 N (Elantra sport), is often compared to Civic type R. It may not be as fast as the type R, but some reviewers actually preferred I30 N over Civic type R. They reviewed that I30 N is more fun on the road than Civic type R.
This is more of a Focus ST and GTi competitor to be honest...
I would like to see the i30 N here in canada its more has more room and 4 doors. But the Veloster is lighter so it would be faster and handle better. But thank you hyundai for a stick shift the only way a hot hatch should be! bring back the manual cars!
I can't say anything negative about this car... I am not kidding! I think it would be a very worthy replacement for the awesome Focus RS... I mean, just listen to that exhaust note!!!!!!!!!!
I can, the hatch is high and has a small opening. The performance gear all looks pretty good though.
Awd..
Yeah. They should make a higher N model and give it around 350 horsepower and standard AWD. Maybe make FWD with a limited-slip differential a no-cost option.
I'd still take the focus lol it's faster in a straight line because 350 hp lol
three doors
Biermann looks like he’s having fun making N cars. Good for him. I think Hyundai gave him the free reins and budget that he needed. Hyundai cars in the future should be better because of the things they learn through their N division.
this car sounds amazing, wow.
I'd much rather the I30N. The utility is much higher
They forgot to talk about the magical paint job where the car alternates from blue to white.
Great video. First one of the most informative reviews I have seen for this car. Many other you tubers went to that press event, but I learned a lot more here. Especially glad to have the footage of Albert Biermann talking about the car
i30 N would of been so cool to have here too, I would of looked into them for fun daily driver
This dude... he knows the joy of a good turn
Been waiting for this forever!
Next time ask Albert Biermann why aren't we getting the Elantra GT i30? The Veloster is too small? The Elantra GT will be the more ideal to be sold in the US because of its sides, wouldn't think???
TOTO Cult you need to ask marketing wigs that, Biermann is here to make to car go, and has nothing to do with the sales.
The Velsoter out sold the Elantra here in the states. You stick with what sells.
Finally, someone from Hyundai has hinted at the price in US dollars. With the base version at $28K, they're MSRP-ing it right where I thought they would with 22 more horse power than the 2019 VW GTI for the same price. Or with the Performance Pack little shy of the power of the VW Golf R but for well less than the MSRP of the top trim GTI, the Golf R, or Civic Type R. Hopefully, dealer markup isn't awful and Hyundai's Shopper Assurance program could help curb some of that.
BUT IT STILL ISN'T THE i30N...
@TFL: Next time you talk to Hyundai, you tell them what we really want is the power/driving dynamics of the N powertrain and suspension tune, but with the best-in-class cargo space of the i30/Elantra GT.
^THIS!
You are right the i30 n is slightly less powerful and 200lbs heavier. We got the better car, just people prefer the more conservative looks of the elantra or i30
@@IReahpZz it's exactly the same engine in both the I30N and Veloster N
@@kennyd7667 While the engine in the i30N is the same as the Veloster N, it is slightly detuned in the i30N like 4-5HP. Cuz... 'Merica?
@@mojavikizashi5138 yeah I wonder why the Veloster N has like 4 more BHP??
Father of N himself talking about N! A priceless video. I cannot believe that I haven't encountered this video before.
This is gonna be a epic car. Plus its a Hyundai so its gonna be cheaper than some of the competition
Not to mention one of the best warranties in the game
Now the horsepower and performance measure up to the looks!
It's been a long time coming but is good to see.
Great car. Some would prefer the I30n (Elantra) with the full N treatment.
I picked up my Veloster N yesterday in Phoenix and all I can say it is more Fun than my BMW M-6 coupe, And of course it is Performance Blue! Like McDonald’s says I’m loving it! Truly Amazing! Jim and Rico 🐕👍😊🐠🎣
But be Aware thick car takes 91 octane or better I run 95!!
Seems like an awesome hot hatch. Makes the Civic Type-R look even uglier than I already thought it was.
Yeah, kind of sucks its a good car.
I would've gotten the type r as well if not for the back of it.
The original Veloster sold well here in the US so I'm sure Hyundai is just testing waters by not releasing the Elantra N here yet. I have a feeling that the Veloster N will sell well here and we'll see the Elantra N at the end of next year. Hell, I'll even help the cause and trade in my Civic Si for a Veloster N, even though I would like the full 4 doors that the Elantra has. But I never had a hot hatch so I see this more of an opportunity to go for it.
We need to get this guy working on a performance coupe version of the G70
Just get a gti
I fixed a couple thermostats in the past on GTIs and for some reason, they thought it was a great idea to put it under the intake manifold. Don't need this kind of German engineering in my life.
PiroFyre what years ?
Don't know. Not very familiar with VW lineups. I just know 2 of those thermostat jobs were 5th gens. Then a buddy had a 4th gen 20th that broke the plastic blades on the water pump, which I don't get as to why they were still using plastic shit like that when on other cars, they had metal blades since the 80s. Then I had to do a brake job on my cousin's Jetta, which required me to take a car battery and hook up 2 wires to the e-brake calipers in the rear just to release them. From my own limited experience with German cars, I would rather just avoid them. Besides, Hyundais are practically Mitsubishis that are built better than Mitsubishis so I'll feel right at home with these kinds of cars and fix them when something goes wrong.
As a blue collar laborer, I would buy this and take it up Big Bear every weekend. I bet it's just as fun as the RS and Golf R
elephntindaroom but why get that when you can get a RWD 275hp camaro for 25k? It does 0-60 In 6.0 seconds with a limited top speed of 140 plus it's cheaper and RWD
@@yyeezyy630 how would that do up the canyons? Would it be too heavy to get a little daring?
elephntindaroom they weigh just over 3,350 lbs they really aren't that heavy as for handling I wouldn't assume it would be great without the handling package for 25k but for me personally just the styling and RWD would make me pick it although it is worth mentioning RWD means less understeer and more oversteer which is fun when controlled lol I'm sure aftermarket tires would make it easy to control to. You can get it with the 1LE handling package for around 32k which is the same handling package they use with the v8 it has a pretty good reputation. When people think American muscle they always think supper heavy but that's really only true with the hellcat today lol
I think it's going to be a big hit.
Alex B. physically resembles Jeremy Clarkson, but sounds like Wolfgang Puck. Seems like a fun, enthusiastic fellow. He has an awesome job!
Goddamn it why won't someone bring me one of these!? I want this car SOOOO bad!
Real gem is the 2019 veloster. Base......all new chassis.....nice stick, port injected Atkinson cycle engine...30 mpg....needs to be flogged and is great slow-car-fast....linear power delivery....for $17.5K, an amazing value.
Can’t wait to see blood type racing and sfr tuning this car it should even faster
Great interview with Albert Biermann,, nice video however, I noticed the camera op was struggling with focus...
Currently leasing an '18 Elantra Sport, love it. I want to do so many mods after my lease and I buy the car. But my god this looks so nice I just hope they once again add the DCT to it. They were only manual for a while but they released it with a DCT and it's so much nicer to drive
I just got my 2020 in the performance blue with the pp I hope these things take off I’ve always loved hatch backs and we don’t have many good choices here in America...
This Veloster N will replace my Fiesta ST one day. I'll take one in blue please with the performance package in 3-5 years. I love my 2014 Fiesta, don't get me wrong, but this is better quality interior with more power and a stiffer chassis.
He made a really fun car thank you sir
love your channel and content but a bit of an advice from a fellow content creator, get rid of your GH5 and get either a Sony A73, Fujifilm XT3, or Canon eosR. GH5 is just not meant for run-and-gun 1man vlogging, the autofocus is atrocious. When 80% of your video is out of focus, it's way too distracting. I have one myself and it's fantastic for cinema and shooting films in manual focus, but I would never use it's autofocus.
Awesome vehicle I bought one; love it; I love they thought on Michigan roads for their tires XD
I just got one a couple weeks ago and hit a huge pot hole on Gratiot at 300 miles. No puncture. Scared the hell out of me tho
I prefer the look of the i30 N, but I'm guessing you guys don't get that one in the US?
ulverop nope.
ulverop the i30N is Europe exclusive.
I30n is Europe exclusive, Veloster n is usa exclusive. I like the velosters looks over the i30n, definitely a bit more aggressive, and I like the leds in the lights. This is my next car.
I'm of the opinion that this does NOT compete with the Civic Type R. Golf GTi? Yes. Focus ST? Yes. But not the Type R, which is closer to a Golf R / Focus RS competitor.
The Golf R and RS are awd the Type r belongs with the Gti Veloster N focus ST
Drivetrain doesn't matter. Type R is faster than both of those cars anyway.
The focus RS and the Golf R both have a faster 0-60 time than the Type R. Also theres a huge diffrence in fwd vs awd and that certainly is gonna decide what class a cars put In. The Type R well most "fan boys" put it in a god status isn't that special, especially when you consider it costs more than an STI. The veloster N well being a half a second slower to 60 than the type R is also 7k less starting out definitely something to keep in mind.
Some people just don't like to face the facts.
@@JTube571 The Focus RS and Golf R are AWD, have more HP, and are faster than the Type R but cost much more at around 45k vs 35K. The Type R is in a price niche by itself. The Veloster N is expected to come in less at under 30k and is priced similar to a GTI and Focus ST.
I watched this video beforeI bought my VN..so had to come back and re-watch. I love my 2021 VN such a fun car to drive.. I'm sad it will no longer be made....Hyundai/Kia lucked out getting Mr. B....and it's best to drive this car with the sofest suspension..I love the steeing in sport..love the heavier feel..To bad cars like this are going to be obsolete.
I'd love to see a track review of the current Focus ST, the GTI S or SE manual, and this Veloster N with 275hp.
Gimme a year and a half I’m on this car and I’m puttin on the track big facts
Come on Hyundai , bring us the Elantra Gt N / I30 N !
After looking at Dealership's
In L.A. County there is only one with the
Performance package,
And the mark up puts it over $35,000
Blame the greedy dealer
If they can actually deliver them for about $30k, they should sell pretty well.
Should I trade my Civic Sport Hatch for the Veloster N?
If you want more a performance oriented car, yes! But those Civic hatchback sports are sweet!
Do it
Much much more car for the money, even if you tuned your hatch and did Boltons you'd still be a bit slower than this car with the performance pack. I'd say do it!
Yes
I’m thinking about doing the same, the Veloster N looks like so much fun!
By the way Fantastic Video Bierman is the man !👍
Not bad..they actually added an LSD and a multilink suspension for the rear instead of that cheapo torsion bar. Kudos.
I would agree with hyundai made great job living the manual and manual hand break. Really good job and performance way better job than honda si and type R which im dissapointed.
Love the exhaust sound! But how did They not put a flat bottom steering wheel in this bad boy!?
The new Veloster N sounds good, my only gripe is the speedometer. It has a weird beginning of odd miles per hour from 10 to 50 then the rest of the speedometer shows 60-160 miles per hour. Should be all even numbers instead of odd numbers.
I wanted a blue one with the performance package. I live in the SF Bay Area and I had to go to TX to get one. It was a fun drive back to CA, at least until I got to LA :(
I think all the videos I'm watching of different guys talking about this car were filmed in the same place on the same day
It was a media track day.
Man, Bierman seems like a hell of a guy. Wants to make a great fun car affordable for folks
Interesting to hear from the car designer. The testing was terrible. The show host was braking hundreds of feet early. The track driver said, "usually front drive cars will plow, but we haven't been able to test it" and turns into a corner at 40 mph.
I hope to see a Hot Hatch competition race on this channel with this Veloster/type R/GTI. That would be epic
Love the vids😍👍
This competes with a mildly tuned SI and focus ST, not a type-R. Not having an L.S.D. As standard is ridiculous if you are claiming it is a performance oriented FWD hatch. Especially for 30k.
What type of transmission did they put in this. That was the problem with the original velocity was the transmission it just didn't have enough pick up when you were getting onto the highway.
Wish my i30N came with the matching blue seatbelts too!
It is finally here!!!
Every new angry styled giant hatch back = 90's-2000's become more valuable.
This is America's version overseas it's the i30n but we get the three-door version because the velociter needed to regain some respect
Great video. I wish GM would do something with their compacts since Ford is giving up and Chrysler isn't doing anything. I still prefer a GTI, but this is a good attempt by Hyundai.
FCA has something much better: Hellcat.
They have the base camaro which costs like 25k with 275 hp so they don't really need one I'd take RWD and the camaro styling over a compact any day
I love my super hot hatch, the 2018 Golf R DSG.
Did he say anti-lag with more words 😁
Review the 2020 model as it has a better rear suspension than the torsion bar that this has.
I’d love to see what he could accomplish with a genesis coupe making a N version with maybe the stinger motor
I'm interested to see this car vs Ford fiesta and Honda type R or even better ford focus RS
The Fiesta and the rs are out of production in America
Well two of those will no longer be in the US. Ford isnt making new cars for north america any longer. Once the current stock is gone thats it.
It's a pretty good deal. With fiesta st you could get recaro package and upgrade turbo and full bolt on and be about the price this car will be, but with the N you get all that with warranty. I'd like to see a dsg version with 0-60 in low 5s.
@@thatebutuoyguy788I guess viper Corvette gtr Porsche and all the other super cars aren't sports cars then? Dont tell me what I need to learn to do. I've owned countless manuals and own one now.
This car is $30k usd and most of you think it’s cheap? This car is a size of fiesta with a hideous 3 doors, the i30 N cost $30k sound right.
So where is it? We are in 2019 now and now sign of the N type yet in any flavor.
Looks like a good alternative to a GTI or a JCW Mini.
Not bad at all
This is exciting, I'd love one.
My 2013 Sonata has the 275 HP engine. I always wondered why they reduced the Horsepower in 2015. Now I know why. They can't have an N car sell along side a Sonata with the same engine.
They also discovered issues with fuel economy and burning transmissions. Hyundai needed a bit more time to be ready for tuned up power in their chasis. Once they redesigned their chasis, they have been more willing to pump out this power. Also, a big engine isn't necessary for the sonata since fuel economy is more important in that segment of the market.
@@lachlanhudson7404 Now, 4 years later, Hyundai has an 8 speed transmission and a 2.0L Turbo engine. The engine performance is down approx 30hp/15 lb/ft compared to the 2013 model and gets 23/32 mph vs the 2013's 22/33 mph. With a new transmission, I was expecting a little better results. I was more concerned with performance than MPG so I did not stay with Hyundai. Maybe next time.
I think you may need to switch to manual focusing next time.
I would kill to have a SonataN with Awd. I need a larger car but with the N handling and power.
Anyone know where I can find a video/pictures of the N in midnight black?
Edit: google wasn’t much help
For those who are all about performance and for better city driving will there be a dual clutch trans?
Jackjelly23 I believe atm there is only a 7-spd dual-clutch in the turbo ultimate model which sacrifices a lot of power and the transmission hasn’t gotten a lot of good feedback so far
There's a new clutch (8 spd, I think) currently in development. Should be available for some 2020 N cars. The 7 spd cant handle this amount of torque
Interesting Hyundai car seems like its inline with VW gti mk7.5 with performance pack, I Autocross my gti and I’m always interested in cars that fit in the g-street class, the lsd on this car would make a good Autocross car
Take my money!
Looks like fun.
What lap times are they putting down at Thunderhill?
Awesome Review Roman Your #1 God Willing I will let you guys know soon when i'm going to fly to Colorado to take all of you out to dinner ROMAN, TOMMY, NATAN, ANDRE, MICHAEL, KENT EIN AND ZAK TAKE CARE GOD BLESS ALL OF YOU

i believe so
Hyundai i30 N Performance and Hyundai Veloster N Performance. 💪🏼 Performance power. 👍🏼 👌🏼🥇👈🏼😎
Becareful may blow up with u in it.kia hyundai have dat problem
After working for a Kia dealer not long after they poached Biermann, and hearing the kind of stuff they were planning, I'd have killed to have the opportunity to pick his brain on this stuff. I was the oddball because of that, since I was the only one in the place that actually had any idea what the Kia USA engineering/product rep was talking about when he stopped in.
Drinking game: every time he says "so" you take a shot
Germans say so a lot
do you guys have a track time at thumderhill for this episode?
The engine note is real, I can tell you that.
veloster n is fine but I want the i30n!!
kia stinger N ? and hyundai g70,80 N ?? stick shifts only ???
I'd like to see Mr. Albert drive it.
Now if you could only get the dealers on board with having enthusiasts as customers. One thing at a time I guess.
Here in Brazil this car is a normally aspirated 1.6L, it's ridiculous considering the design and the name "Veloster".
