Thanks!! It’s been quite a ride since that article was published. So cool people are still reading it almost 4 years later. If you’re a high school student or a teacher I can only hope it helped in some way
Awesome video man! I drove for Republic in Bend for about two years until last January. 2411 was actually my truck for about a year until I became a relief driver there. Also that old grey Volvo that Cascade Disposal runs was actually one of the very first garbage trucks I ever saw when I was about 3 years old! I grew up just south of Bend and that truck used to pick up commingle on my street, so I've got some great memories of that one! Curious when this was filmed though, because I spotted a driver that quit I think over a year ago now.
Great to hear from an insider! This was filmed during one of my many trips to Bend during 2020 and 2021, so I'm sure things have changed a bit. You probably know the route, down bt At that time 3/4 of Republic's fleet was repainted, but I spotted some Wittke front loaders and glass trucks still in white. The drivers were all nice enough, even if they thought the filming was weird haha.
@@trashmonster26 Lol, yep I recognized every route you were on! As far as I know those old glass trucks and the Wittke front loader are still white. Those trucks are old enough I don't think they'll ever bother. But I'll have to upload some more videos of those old trucks, they were fun to drive!
Great video! The Wayne Tomcat was a surprise, interesting to see that they run that. The growling AlleyHand was awesome, have any more footage of that? Cool finds!
That Heil at the beginning was fun to watch! Is that used on hard to collect areas or skipped routes? The blue Bend Ottos also remind me of the blue BFI use to use for their Otto orders. Pretty neat seeing some non standard Republic trucks. Get anymore video of the Volvo Alley Hand?
Thank you! The carts in Republic's service areas are in such great shape because they have their Amreps set to the most gentle touch, both the grip pressure and the chain speed. I have more videos of the satellite truck, the Volvo, and the Peterbilt Alley Hand but not much else. Seeing as I am unlikely to return to Oregon soon haha I should probably post them. Following that Volvo from the yard was such a trip, I had no expectation that I would find anything that old during my visit. Glad you enjoyed!
Nope. The city website had a useful calendar I remember. The city is split between republic and wc as you know. Lots of variety for a pretty small town
Found the channel through your NYT personal essay contest submission! I love garbage trucks and I'm so glad I found this community!
