@@OdellCompleteConcrete beautiful work. Can you please tell me the type of stone you used. Please
@@OdellCompleteConcrete Do you apply the mix for stone veneer to a dry wall, or do you need to dampen like you would before a stucco application?
Love you guys!

Thanks for sharing your professional skills. I always wanted to know how stone finish was done. One more thing, please show work from wide back away view, so we can see how it looks in contrast to background.
I concur on the wide angle shots.
We just got a drone, maybe that will help
1:17 Must have a lot of minerals in the water in CA. The Home Depot bucket sank into the lawn. Nice job by the way. I wish schools would start kids on a trade, Great artistic work.
Yes hard water in California

Thanks for uploading this! I have a very similar finish design I wanted to do on a block wall I'm building next to my house and I was unsure of the correct process.
Glad it was helpful!
Enjoy the content from Kansas! Thanks!
Ty
Beautiful job as always David. Kind of a different design, on the front of that home, with the French doors leading to a front patio area. I've not seen that before but your work is always amazing. I just wished you did work outside of Orange County.
Me too
Cool. Looks like when I lived in Laguna Niguel, CA doing landscape construction. When I was doing masonry I used to mix thin-set with the mortar because it's a sure thing bond on the cinder block. Too often just using mortar ends up not bonding into the pores of the stone and breaks loose over time.
I concur
TY
@@OdellCompleteConcrete I'm back in Colorado and I always mix in the thin-set with mortar because of the winter freeze-thaw cycles we get here. I don't use thin-set for the joints because it doesn't look aesthetically appealing. Anyway, when I was out there in SoCal it was big-time masonry construction. I even did tiling on driveways. It's not such big deal here in Colorado unless it's a high-end house.
Interesting
TY
Meh, I can do that... Yeahhhh right lol 😂
Excellent job you guys 👍😎
Go for it!
Really nice job. I've been looking for videos related to stone veneer installation. I want to try on my house but I just don't have the confidence yet.
Build a small knee wall like the one in the video to get some practice. I'm planning on building one in the near future.
Try it on somebody else's house. If you don't like it at least you won't have to look at it every day. LOL
You can do it!
good idea
@@OdellCompleteConcrete I will give it a try after you upload 4 or 5 more job's like this one. Class is in session!
Smart! I have a truck for concrete coming next week, I will get some slabs and a foundation poured then I will dot my BBQ area like this.
awesome
Good job amigo

Those sitting walls add a nice touch of contrast against the house stucco...

Never ends on a seam for me 🥴

so why didn't you wet it for the bricks but you did for the stucko??
"Don't make a big deal about it"
“Not a big deal”

Your videos are amazing. Been watching them for a few years and learned a lot. You pack so much great information into them without any of the fluff and hype of other content makers. I am curious about the cost per linear foot this type of wall without the stucco on the back surface and about the same 2-3 foot tall. I know the veneer can vary but just for an average pattern from Belgard or Eldorado? I'm in far northern LA county.
5 to 7
@@OdellCompleteConcrete do you know of contractors with your same quality that you’d refer a job in Antelope Valley/San Fernando Valley/Santa Clarita Valley/Ventura? Assuming that locale would be too far to be cost effective for you?
👍👍👍👍
Nice job david M8
TY
Thank you so much David: at 7:58 the architectural control joints in the driveway and the veneer wall really pop! If they have you do the front of the house with veneer it will look like a brand new home! Do you suggest moist cure, blanket, or curing compound in SoCal this time of year or not necessary?
Yes I think the front of the house, and maybe vertical on the corners will tie it in.
The weather is good right now for curing.
Nice job. I will be veneering a sitting wall with marble on an upcoming job. Can I start from the coping and work down?
Yes if you have a way of holding it there
👍
Looks great. If the block has been painted do you do anything different?
yes, pressure wash to remove bad paint, and use glue to adhere
Looks great! do you have a specific product you use if you want it to have wet look?
Sure, check out my latest video
Very nice good sir.
My Pappy always said “Never use your hand as a hammer, they make things to do just that”. A rubber mallet perhaps? Tapa taappa . . .
Good idea
Great job !! What is the exact ratio/ contents of the adhesive you used to bond the stone veneer to block wall? Does wall have to be prepped prior to application? Striated trowel not needed???
Many thanks.....
Old walls should pressure washed first.
The ratio I use is one bag spec to one bag thinset
i know this sounds like a silly question but if i'm trying to get into that work field installing stone like you're doing on this video, what would you recommend me looking for?
straight and clean
Good stuff as usual David 🙂 I am a mason in Wildwood NJ and Philadelphia Pa, I have only one question for you bud why don't you guys ever use concrete rakes or what we call come a longs???? When putting down your driveways, garage floors???? Not knocking your way at all with rubber gloves and a shovel but than again we pour 100 yds at a time some days and use Georgia buggy's. You guys pump everything so I get it.... Hey buddy you are the best on the internet and your son Tim is right behind you!!!! God bless!!!!! From one Irishman to another!!!!!!!
The come along doesn't work well with pea gravel mix.
I do use it on the big rock.
TY
David, if you were going to stick stone veneer to hardi backer could you use the same mixture you used on the wall?
Sure
a liitle rough around the edges there my man. But, hey.....I'm an ultra modern clean lines kinda guy.
A little more custom with the different themes.
The stucco will get painted also.
Dave, love your videos. Extremely helpful. Wish you were in NorthWest Arkansas. How do I find a contactor like you who really cares about doing it right?
Look for Owner Operator
Safety note here... when cutting stone you should be wearing eye protection, ear protection and a respirator if you don't have a wet cutting tool. This guy is an old salt and set in his ways, but you should always use proper safety gear when cutting masonry.
I should note, I think Odell is a righteous dude and spreads much knowledge... I really do appreciate him sharing his knowledge. I've learned a lot from him.
That's true I recommend wearing the safety gear.
That looks awesome! Where do you recommend to purchase stone and brick veneers? I would not buy tile from home depot, so I'm wondering about the veneer?
Resource
What is Resource?
Do you have any opinions about using construction adhesive vs your thinset mix to adhere the stone veneer? (install speed, durability, etc?)
I haven't used adhesive for that, but it would probably work
hey D, we can handle some long videos too ya know ... throw us a few 25 minute'ers. pleeeez 😁
Noted!
TY
@@OdellCompleteConcrete dont do it
Great video! Is it best practice to always start at the bottom and work your way up? I have a concrete retaining wall that varies from 16" down to 11" and wondering where all the cut stone should go - top row or bottom? This is thin stone veneer I will be using with grout lines. I was thinking I wanted all the cut stone on the bottom row. Any recommendations? Thx!
Layout some stone on the floor to get a pattern and vertical measurement that's close to the 11". install a level board down from the top the same as the vertical measurement. Lay stone on the board up to the top. Remove the board and fill in the bottom with the cut pieces.
If it is a low wall with an overhang or cap, cuts will be less seen on the top
I've seen people at the top or mid way with a temporary ledger
@@larrykeenan598 Thanks Larry!
@@biffmcgraw5507 The stone is about 1" - 2" thick and the overhang will only be about 1.5" - 2". Do you think with that amount of overhang you would not notice it as much on the top? It does not seem like that much overhang to me to cover it up.
👍👍🤠
