I'm looking for ideas to give my house some curb appeal and also cover my ugly and in some areas chipped slab foundation. Maybe 1 foot or so high around 3 sides of the house. Hi all. I am a cultures stone noob doing a small 80 sq ft project, (front of my garage) and went to a building supply place and purchased Type S for Scratch, Stick and Grout. I bought it and I'm mixing 1 part S, three types sand as they told me. Scratch coat went up yesterday on wire. I plan on sticking today. Now I'm afraid I should've purchased Type N because some say S don't stick as good? Can I butter stone with N and stick it to the S scratch coat, or do you think I'll be ok? Also do I wet both scratch coat and stone before sticking? Also, my wife wants a lighter different color grout than what my Scratch and Stick is. My stones are mostly round, 4-8 inches, and should be a 1 inch grout around them. Should I stick with colored stuff too? So many questions. Thanks in advance!
Type s or n will both work some people wet the stone but being a rookie I would not it's going to make it really messy It all depends on the environment with the moisture content.. as far as the color mortar you could use regular mortar without color just don't put so much on the stone or just rake the joints out before you fill them with the color

It also weathers that rock color and texture extremely quickly, in comparison to actual stone. It may be cheaper for the client. But I anticipate that within 50 years or so, people are going to wise up on this inferior product, and in the end, it'll hurt the Stone Masonry trade. It'll give Stone Masonry a stigma that "it doesn't last long". Leading to people being unsure if it actually adds equity to their property. Great video! How can I get into this kind of work? I have experience with masonry work and installing (pool coping and tile)
Just start advertising or get a hold of some builders
You've given me confidence that I can install my stone myself. Thanks my only question is , can I put dura rock board instead of scratch coat like you got in this video?
Yes sir dura rock will also work just make sure you have enough screws in it to hold the weight. Also install it rough side out.

No dura rock will not work you stone will fall right off in months or years with freeze and thaw seasons and your joints will crack. Guy is an idiot who told you, u can use dura rock. Only applications you can use it is for a stacked stone interior.

What kind of mortar do you use to adhere stone ?do you have to point between stone my mason sid that ..we liked the look better without it. This was for our indoor fireplace ..I'm thinking you have to point between stone if its outside?

Why not put the sill on first? Just learning
You can do either way I do it that way because it helps hold the sill up when installing
