Your chicken is really coming along. I have 21 of the real McCoy chickens (3 of which are roosters). People give us chicken plushies so I’ll be making something else for a support animal. Yours is much easier to live with.
When I add plastic canvass to the bottom of my bag, I make a double base and put the canvass in between and then work the 2 layers as one. If you WANT to, you can stitch in another base to conceal the plastic canvass. I love the colors you chose for your chicken.

I’m using size 9’s (I think 🤔) using Wool Ease Fair isle and Red Heart Brushed Acrylic. Cast on Multiple of 10 Garter stitch boarder (8-10 rows) 5 Edges stitches garter each row. 10 knit, 10 purl repeat between Edges After 10 rows, switch 10 purl, 10 knit Let me know if that makes sense

That is how I’ve made them too. The plastic canvas gets covered one way or the other.

Chicken number 3 on the needles. Daughter loved her chicken. Hubby’s blanket is moving right along. It’s 53 inches now and feels amazing
