- Unboxing the Stewart MacDonald Wilkinson Modern-T Guitar Kit. Part 1 of 4
I've wanted a Telecaster style guitar for a while and decided I'd try to make one and see how it turns out. Trev Wilkinson is a well known luthier, so figured this kit would be high quality with good components.

Watch the follow-up videos, after I decide whether to stain or paint the body and finish the build. I'll let you all hear how it sounds.

I don't know shit about fuck but this got me excited and once I get into something I'm all in. I really appreciate what you posted here. Im going to do it.
Excited to see how this turns out!
Thanks! I hope to start on the neck tomorrow. I really enjoyed your "Custom Mustang Style Guitar Demo". It sounded fantastic and I really liked the pedal breakdown. I agree... you watch a guitar build... and there's no videos on how it sounds? Isn't that the ultimate point of going through the process??? Was that a kit you built, or are you making from scratch? I subscribed and liked, so keep making those videos. Thanks for watching!!!
Unboxing videos are annoying and often a waist of time. Your video was very well done and totally worth watching. Thank you for posting this good work!
Thank you Adam!
I just finished this kit. Came out great! Pick ups sound fantastic too.
Nice Bob! Are you going to post some videos? It would be great to hear how it sounds. I just finished most of the neck and onto the boday today. Thanks for watching. I subscribed to your channel, hope to see a video of your telecaster!
Steven Parente I don’t make videos, but I’m looking forward to watching your build and hearing your opinion about the components. My frame of reference is my Baja tele and I think this one sounds better!
Right on Bob. That's good that you have something to compare to. Just finished a vintage blue (aqua) dye on the body today. Hoping to have some topcoats on tomorrow. Maybe I'll have this completed end of next week. The neck is finished.
look forward to the build Steven
Thank you Jon! I'm hoping to get started on the neck tomorrow. I'm going to smooth out the fret ends a little and apply a very simple finish. Something as close to the wood feel as possible, but adding protection from moisture. The factory neck work was really high quality, so I don't think it will be much work to finish! The video should be up in a few days. Still trying to figure out how I want to do the body. Thanks for watching!
Just found you .... great vid. I may try this ; )))
Aloha Kelly. It turned out really well and sounds great. The Wilkinson kits seem to be very high quality from StewMac. Check my channel and you'll find 3 more videos on building. The last video has some playing and you can hear how it sounds. The Wilkinson pickups are really nice. Thanks for watching.
14:23 You want a small fall off on the last fret. Enjoy!
I've never heard of that before, but will check it out. Thanks for the tip and for watching Greg! - Steve
Merci beaucoup
Thank you for watching!
Thank you for watching!
My 2012 China Squier telecaster AT 200$ have one block solid body...
Depending on the manufacturing company, Squier guitars can be very good. See my video about the Squier Stratocaster I upgraded: ua-cam.com/video/XxpS6k0sZ9o/v-deo.htmlsi=5Iq22e4GlLNEU7wT. This is my main slide guitar now. I wound special pickups for it. Thanks for watching!
$650.00! Wow. That's pretty high for a kit. Seems high quality and great guitar, but that's more than an actual Fender MIM.
Aloha Todd, I bought it on sale, so less than that. This kit sounds really good. Check out the soundcheck. Spencer, who plays in that clip, has a local guitar store (Big Island Guitars) and he said it plays and sounds as good as several teles, including American made. Obviosly withtout the resale value. But I was in it for the sound and the experience. It saved me around $500 if comparing to an American made tele. The Wilkinson pickups are amazing. Thanks for wtaching!
