      @ I checked the price and this kit shipped to me with exchange rate is $740. That's a crazy price for a kit guitar. Although your not getting too much further ahead with warmoth. Last time I priced a guitar out with them I think the thing was $1500

    • @jeff-wo6mm
      @jeff-wo6mm 4 роки тому

      The neck from Warmoth alone with cost you at least $300. You going to stretch $150 to cover a body, pickups, bridge and hardware? If you did that would be one crap guitar. I don't think you go this route for cost savings. It's a kit for those who WANT to build a guitar.

    The path of the neck through to the bridge needs as much mass as possible, in my fairly well educated opinion. If the neck doesn’t sit tight against the inside surface of the neck pocket that is opposed to the neck pickup slot, there is a massive decrease in sustain. It’s not even subtle.
    So I don’t think it’s unreasonable to suggest that a swimming pool route’s decrease of the mass between bridge and neck pocket would impact sustain to a degree. A guitar is a complex interdependent system, not a single line between good and bad tone, or good and bad playability.

  • @4dmind

    I agree on swimming pool routes, however...I do not like pickguards (aesthetically), so I won't play a swimming pool route guitar.

    Thanks for making a unboxing of this kit. I have been wondering how much better the quality of these kits are as compared to other StewMac and Solo kits. I have built the regular stewmac strat kit and the LP one as well. I’ve looked at these new stew Mac kits and wondered if the increase in price was worth it. I kinda of doubt that it is. I am sure it’s a lot less sanding which is great plus. Too bad it’s not a one piece body. With the kits I build i end up spending about 500 or so with upgrades total. If I was to buy one of these I would definitely lean hard on the Tele kit. Anyways great vid.

    • @mancaveguitarpedalmania4008
      @mancaveguitarpedalmania4008  4 роки тому

      I think that the wood and neck are substantially better than a Solo kit. Fender uses 2-piece bodies for a lot of their American made strats, so that didn't bother me. I can't compare it to other StewMac kits, but I have built kits from BYOGuitar.com, and they wood is of similar quality. I think that the biggest upgrade is in the hardware. Of course, I won't know how well I like the pickups until I get it all assembled.

    • @johnp6269
      @johnp6269 4 роки тому

      michaeladam caira stew mac is over the top expensive, on everything, they must be smoking the laced shit, but in a sales training I took there’s no such thing as too expensive if he’s willing to pay it. People get ripped off all the time. Look at how much we are will to pay for a cell phone. Mine was 900.00 and that was 3 years ago, and how much does that cost to make it.i bet under 100. They put it in a nice box. That cost 800.00 loose the packing and what do you have just another paper weight in a couple years! A guitar at least last a lifetime. But most musicians I know are broke as a joke.

      There are lots of cheap kits out there, but the only one that I have experience with is from Solo Music Gear. They aren't bad kits, although if you're thinking of a project guitar that you want to actually play then you'll want better hardware and pickups. Also, $200 doesn't include the cost of finishing supplies.

    This thing is now $529 (supposedly reg. $650) at StewMac! Holy crap! Why not just buy an EVH Wolfgang standard from Sweetwater that looks great and plays great right out of the box? Don't get me wrong, I build a lot of project guitars, but the price on this is crazy. I can build a beautiful flame or quilt top tele or strat with top hardware for $600 total - dye, finish, hipshot tuners, good pickups, tusc nut etc...
