    "Tent" dress patterns from the 60's mimic the lines of the Balenciaga dress. I made mine in 1959 from black pique with short sleeves and a white peter pan collar. A strip of elastic went across the inside back just below the armholes to hold the fullness. The front was cut more narrow. I was 18 years old and wore it to experience my very first opera in Chicago.

    In sharp contrast to other people, apparently, I really enjoyed this episode and have enjoyed this series overall - they’ve done away with the silly nonsense like art week and gone back to doing things that a very talented home sewer might reasonably be expected to make. Not me - I’m not skilled or experienced enough - but the show has been more inspirational for me this time because what they are doing is more achievable. Different strokes I guess 🤷🏼‍♀️ Thank you for all your work finding the patterns!

    The Fibre Mood Dallas dress is a little like the pattern challenge at the front, but still has the cape feature rather then gathers at the back….

    Hi Kate, great job as usual. A picture flashed up while Luke was chatting about his design that was of the PatternCos Patterns’ Weddy Dress. It has that exaggerated collar and shoulder details.

      That’s it! Well done. They also have a waistcoat that looks closer to what Aisle made. A lower V and 3 buttons.

    The skirt part of Susie's dress could also be from the Assembly Line - tulip skirt. It had that panelled look

    I've made Simplicity 8875. It's a fun pattern and very close to Pasha's make, but it is not the same. The big difference is that Pasha's dress is on the bias, and this dress is not. I sort of feel that Pasha's dress might be an OOP Vogue pattern, but just a feeling.

      It's "easy" to change the grain to bias ...I do it all the time. I my change a pattern from on grain to bias or from bias to on grain...or from on grain to split bias for chevroning. You need to pay extra attention to seam allowances,.stay stitching, consistent grain, and hang time for stretching.

      @@pmclaughlin4111ooh, I wondered about that, what changes need to be made to the seam allowance when changing from straight of grain to bias cut? Thanks!

    The charm patterns waterfall dress isn't the same around the neckline and sleeves but will give you the same silhouette as the balenciaga dupe

    This is the least skillful lot of finalists I’ve seen. As Luke said, “I joined for a laugh”. I understand they’ve got to balance creativity, originality and skill all within a highly restricted time However this combo dilutes the potential of well turned out final clothes. I haven’t applied to SB a as I’m a very immersive, mindful sewer who designs and sees for originality (and not for replicating a high st cloned garment) with the highest possible workmanship. Regardless of my earlier comments, impressive skill is possible as shown by last years winning surgeon whose clothes were amazing.

      I think more experienced/ skilled sewists think twice because the challenges timelines have just gotten impossible now and they know it

    • @nvonad
      @nvonad Місяць тому +9

      Maybe you can start a show for like-minded immersive mindful sewers? Because the gbsb is not that. These guys are doing incredible things with patterns in a limited amount of time, and it's so much fun! They're also real people. Maybe let's be a bit nicer!

      We’ve really noticed the quality of the sewing decline in this years series, going back to watch older episodes is much more inspiring since they nearly always end up with garments that are well sewn and wearable. Personally, I was really disappointed by the quality of sewing in the semi-final especially the Balenciaga dresses, brilliant design but bad sewing! That said I still love the show😁

    • @hkvery3852
      @hkvery3852 Місяць тому

      @@nvonad I agree but what I said was this years batch wasn’t to the high standards I’ve seen in the past. As mentioned, last years winner was superb. I don’t need to start a new sewing programme as I give my feedback as a viewer and have a valid opinion especially important if we want to keep competitive skills at a high level and continue to engage the viewers.

    This is not the Sewing Bee. Actual sewing is the least important part if the programme. Very disappointed with it.
