  • My compressor wouldn't pressurise to more than 40 psi. The reason is the head gasket has failed.
In Part 1 of a 2 part series we strip down my troublesome wolf air compressor to change the head gasket

The four rectangular shims are the spring valves which open and close with the cylinder/piston stroke.

Looks like the same compressor I have (Dakota 100) and exactly the same thing happened to me. This has been a decent compressor and has been a good workhorse for 5 years of pretty heavy use, so it was worth a few quid for the set of gaskets to fix it. Mine had a lot of corrosion on the plates that needed a lot of cleaning up and the gaskets were literally welded-on. While I had the head off, I cleaned it up and painted in black wrinkle finish, in the hope it might run a few degrees cooler. I think the failure is just down to heat over time and the gasket material gets brittle.

Anyone know how to remove the cylinder to replace the base gasket?

that compressor body looks the same in shape as 90 liters compressors sold by SGS. I am not saying SGS quality is not good but they do have detailed manual on they're website of how everything is put together..

part of the maintenance of the compressors is to verify after a while the tightness of the screws on the headgasket.. Watch the video on YT of servicing Stanley compressors: ua-cam.com/video/a48wqMtt5D4/v-deo.html

I got it from the same supplier as the compressor. Sgs sell a compressor that looks very similar, they may be able to help.

GT Air in Milton Keynes sell a make almost identical to Wolf. They do spares and repairs.

I got this from some online place but a company called sgs sell one that looks the same.
      I think they’re fairly generic

I really don’t understand why you are repairing a machine that is under warranty. I would be sending that back on the next courier vehicle. 12 months parts and labour, it’s a consumer law of the land. You’re just too accommodating.
