One of my all time favorites and a band I’ve loved for a long time! It’s a very difficult discography for me to rank, but: 11. S/T 10. The Silent Circus 9. Parallax 1 8. Automata 2 7. Coma Ecliptic 6. Automata 1 5. Alaska 4. The Great Misdirect 3. Colors II 2. Parallax II 1. Colors
1. Colors 2. Coma ecliptic 3. Great misdirect 4. Parallax 2 5. Alaska 6. Automata 2 7. Parallax 1(low just due to length) 8. Automata 9. Silent circus 10. The anatomy of (if you want to count it) 11. Debut (Haven’t had enough time to completely digest colors 2, but my guess is that over time it’ll take anywhere from 2-4)
The silent circus contains one of my favourite song of all time: Mordecai. I love that song whit every cell of my body, it’s not “ok” it’s a fucking masterpiece.
11. Coma Ecliptic: A fine album but I feel that it is substantially less interesting than the rest of their material due to a lot of the prog influences becoming redundant. Still has a lot of great songs, just not my preference. 10. Debut: Very straightforward 90’s style metalcore album with jazz influences that put them in the same league as Candiria. I do think that 300 Percent Density by Candiria is a better entry in this style but still a great debut. 9. Automata II: This is the point where I love every album going forward, I think Questy put it better than I could. Go check this out. 8. Hypersleep Dialogues: A great prog metalcore album in its own right but It kinda just feels like a teaser for Part II. 7. Automata I: This feels like the perfection of the mellower side of their sound. Still massive sounding but a bit spacier than their best material. Probably a 9/10. 6. The Great Misdirect: Now we’re getting into the masterpieces, this is an incredible follow up to colors. Very epic in scale. 5. The Silent Circus: A Mathcore classic. Nuff Said. 4. Alaska: Killer from front to back. Lots of fun and brutal as shit! 3. Colors II: An astronomical feat in succeeding one of the greatest progressive metalcore albums of all time. It has great production and incredible songwriting. 2. Colors: My intro to the band and an amazing concept record White Walls is one of the best closers ever written. 1. Future Sequence: The best piece of material this band ever put out. Grand in scale and truly transcendent of any genre barriers without feeling too out there.
my list: 1. Coma Ecliptic 2. Parallax II 3. Colors II 4. Automata (counting it as one whole album) 5. Colors 6. The Great Misdirect 7. Parallax I: Hypersleep Dialogues 8. Alaska 9. The Silent Circus 10. Self-Titled
Nice list, we agree on 1 and 2 but then it gets reaally hard to rank. Mine goes 1.- Parallax 2 2.- Colors 3.- Coma ecliptic 4.- Automata 1 5.- Alaska 6.- Colors 2 7.-The silent circus 8.- The great misdirect 9.- Automata 2 10.- Self titled
I was late to the BTBAM party. Don’t know how these guys flew under my radar, but there you go. Finally heard Colours, and I was sold instantly. Fuck I love that album, and now this band
I’ll always love Alaska as the album that got me into it. My friend ran a website and got me the album before release. My favorite is probably The Great Misdirect, but I think Colors is the best.
1. Colors 2. The Great Misdirect 3. Alaska 4. Coma Ecliptic 5. Parallax II 6. Silent Circus 7. Automata 8. Between the Buried and Me Ashamed to say I have yet to listen to Colors II 🥺😔 Even so, I’d feel weird putting on this list immediately without having time to develop an opinion on it
1. Parallax II 2. TGM 3. Colors I 4. Colors II 5. Automata 6. Coma 7. Alaska 8. Between the Buried and Me 9. Silent Circus Top 4 is super unchangeable for me, every one could easily be number 1 like you said, and all are easy 10/10. Pleasantly surprised to see Parallax II as your number 1, my favorite album of all time, just love the spacey stuff going on. Always enamored with outer space travel generally, love movies like Intersteller, Alien, etc. Love it.
I got into them via Alaska so that's a special album. 1. Colors 2. Alaska 3. Great Misdirect 4. Parallax (count both as one) 5. Colors 2 (still too new... probably rise up a bit) 6. Coma Eliptic 7. Automata (count both as one) 8. Silent Circus 9. S/T
I'm throwing my list here as well. Even today, it's still subject to change due to how often I listen to this band! 11th: Silent Circus 10th: S/T 9th: Automata I 8th: Automata II 7th: Parallax 6th: Coma Ecliptic 5th: Great Misdirect 4th: Colors II 3rd: Alaska 2nd: Parallax II 1st: Colors
8 and 9 are pretty interchangeable, and I'm not totally sure yet where to put Colors II (but it's definitely somewhere between 1 and 3): 9. Between the Buried and Me 8. The Silent Circus 7. Alaska 6. Automata 5. The Great Misdirect 4. Coma Ecliptic 3. Colors II 2. The Parallax 1. Colors
Good list. Here's my ranking: 1. Colors 2. The Parallax II: Future Sequence 3. The Great Misdirect 4. Colors II 5. The Parallax: Hypersleep Dialogues 6. Coma Ecliptic 7: Automata II 8. Automata I 9. Alaska 10. The Silent Circus 11. Between the Buried and Me My cousin and I have a video where we go through our rankings and pick our favourite songs from each album here: ua-cam.com/video/tk3E0XZdJmE/v-deo.html
1 - Colors 2 - The Great Misdirect 3 - Coma Ecliptic 4 - Alaska 5 - Automata (II > I) 6 - Parallax (I > II) 7 - Colors II 8 - The Silent Circus Never really payed atention to S/T, I'm planning to. Don't really see the connection with Opeth's Deliverance & Damnation btw, but I guess I understand what you mean.
I remember listening to Colors and The Great Misdirect for the first time while playing Earthbound, the music oddly fit the game well: 1. Colors 2. The Great Misdirect 3. Alaska 4. The Parallax II 5. Automata II I've listened to my top 4 extensively, but I have to listen to the others more, especially Colors II (which will probably be in my top 5 in no time). The only album I haven’t heard yet is their debut.
Their debut is pretty good 👌 my fav songs are More of Myself to Kill, Aspirations (the power metal section made me laugh and smile the first time I heard it), Naked by the Computer and Use of a Weapon. If you've seen them live, they usually use the NBTC intro (piano rendition) as their concert opener and holy crap it's beautiful.
I'm pretty late to this, but that's only because I just now given Colors II a listen and I agree it is a damn mighty fine album. Here's my BTBAM ranking: 10. Self-titled 9. Automata II 8. Automata I 7. The Coma Ecliptic 6. The Parallax II: Future Sequence 5. The Silent Circus 4. The Great Misdirect 3. Alaska 2. Colors II 1. Colors
Nice list. I would put Colors at #1 for sure. After that, it gets difficult. They have several classics. Still need more time with the new one, but it will probably be at #3 or maybe #2. Parallax II and The Great Misdirect are both incredible as well. I think Parallax I would round out the top 5. That album (EP?) has just 3 tracks, but they are all mind blowing.
1. Colors 2. Alaska 3. Parallax II 4. Colors II 5. Coma ecliptic 6. Parallax I 7. The great misdirect 8. The silent circus 9. Automata 10. Between the buried and me
Crazy how much hate there self titled gets along with there self titled. I guess people are just fanboys of prog. Arsonist, fire for a dry mouth, naked by the computer, lost perfection 1 and 2 and ad a dglgmut are goddam pure fucking head banging. I also think that hypersleep dialogues is where they mix their metal with prog the best best three albums by far
How about a rankings video of THE OCEAN COLLECTIVE'S albums? Now that is a awesome! Group in my opinion. I got into them recently and they are incredible in my opinion. Verygood video \m/
After listening to Colors II for quite awhile, here is my updated list: 1. Colors 2. Colors II 3. The Great Misdirect 4. Parallax II 5. Parallax I 6. Alaska 7. Automata I 8. Automata II 9. The Silent Circus 10. Coma Ecliptic 11. Between the Buried and Me
I haven't listened to all the discography of the band, but I'd say, that The Parallax II is easily my least favourite. Yeah, it has realy cool songs like Astral Body or Bloom, but overall I don't appreciate the production. They tried to put together too many layers of instruments, so they had to make them all sound so flat, especially in Tommy's screams. But the most stupid thing in here is that we cannot always hear the guitar lines clearly... But it's at leat better than The Parallax EP which I can't listen at all) I prefer Colors and Colors II. To tell adout the second one, it managed "to put together too many layers of instruments" and to sound realy perfect, because you can clearly hear all the vocal lines, all the guitar lines, all the electronics and so on
11) S/T 10) The Silent Circus 9) Automata I 8) Parallax: The Hypersleep Dialogue 7) Coma Ecliptic 6) Automata II 5) The Great Misdirect 4) Alaska 3) Colors II 2) Colors 1) Parallax II: Future Sequence Is there any chance for a Leprous ranking in the future now that their newest material just dropped? I know you liked Tall Poppy Syndrome and Bilateral.
For some reason this band escaped me. I always get Between The Buried and Me and Bullet for my Valentine mixed up. Which band of those two do you recommend more? Good video.
1. Colors I & II - 10/10 2. Alaska (the album that got me into them) - 10/10 3. The Great Misdirect - 9/10 4. The Parallax I & II - 9/10 5. The Silent Circus - 7/10 6. Coma Ecliptic - 0/10. I gave it several shots, but IT BORED ME TO SLEEP every time I tried and that remained true when I tried listening to it again yesterday for the first time in I don't know how long. I never make it to the half-way point before either turning it off or falling asleep. I haven't listened to the Automata Duology enough to rank them and I'm going to rectify that, but I remember coming away from my first time listening to those albums with a much better feeling about them than I have for Coma. I didn't find them as addictive as the band's earlier work (The Silent Circus - The Parallax) and that's why I haven't given them as much attention.
9) S/T 8) The Great Misdirect 7) Silent Circus 6) Coma Ecliptic 5) Colors II 4) Automata 3) Parallax 2) Colors 1) Alaska No bad albums IMO. S/T holds a really special place in my heart despite being probably my least favorite album of theirs.
The only albums I kinda like are Colors I and Parallax II. And even those I'd rate 7/10. I think these guys frequently over complicate their songs just like Dream Theater.
OK, you came late to the party but at least you are here now. Just one thing, the almost constant swearing. It just shows a lack of vocabulary. Between the Burried and Me produce music of high quality and intelligence. Just a suggestion but maybe quit the swearing and increase your vocabulary, I just stopped watching because it comes across as ignorance and idiotic and I'm sure you're not.
I never expected Colors II to be even close to the original in quality. But I’ll be damned...it’s fantastic
Why do you want to be damned?

I’m certain it was their name that put me off from even listening to them when I was younger it’s not quite as catching as say Opeth, Tool or Leprous

Like most of leprous albums so yeah will 100% be doing that in the future tho got paradise lost, devin, zeppelin and lord belial first 😉
Are you ever gonna rank Haken?
Yeah might take me a while but I will, will do leprous first though
Best Albums from August coming soon!!
Yep it’ll be next 👌
