Hi Tristan, some 30 years ago as a child my father taught me how to fish with long bare rod and a fly but moving downstream only. Now I got proper tenkara gears and catch mostly browns here in Bulgaria. By watching your videos I have learnt a lot about the technique you do and became a very inspired angler.
    Greetings from Bulgaria

One of your tenkara disciples here in the Iowa Driftless. Two years ago I hardly ever fished; since then (mostly due to your inspiration) I get out once or twice a week. Mostly wild browns here with the occasional stocker/hold-over rainbow. The Iowa Driftless also has the westernmost creek in the continental U.S. with native, wild brook trout. Thanks for sharing!

I'm practically your neighbor. Layton, Utah. I am old and disabled and I fish the small Mountain and Desert Streams for Cutthroat Trouts.. Mostly Fly Fishing or Dapping but I got a new Tenkara Rod to try out this year. Working on my Fifth Cutthroat Slam.. It does get me out of the house. I have fished Southern Idaho and Wyoming and Nevada in the past so many of the places you fish are quite familiar to me.

That stream was indeed a gem! I’m in Virginia - my fishing is approximately 20% for native brook trout in small mountain streams, and 80% for sunfish in a couple local public ponds. Those percentages are the reverse of my outings long ago. But the aging process makes the mountain treks a bit less ambitious these days - but valued more. Nearly all my outings now are tenkara; only rarely does a conventional fly rod tag along. I greatly look forward to your new episodes each week!

    I'm from Poland.
I fish, or at least try to catch, pike, perch, Zander. There is also a lot of carp family fishes in here. But the major target for me is chub. I try to catch them on fly rod, using foam bug imitation. Fly fishing is something very new. It's to far for trout fishing. So if you don't have what you like, you have to like what you have😉
I've found your channel, when I was doing some research on UA-cam. It's great. The best thing I can see every time, that there's nobody around, just you, and the nature. In my local rivers, sometimes there's more fishermans, than fishes in the water.

Southwest ID (Nampa). So far I have tried to fish all the local ponds, lakes and lately trying to hit the rivers like the Boise river and Payette river. I had a bad injury to my right arm a year ago so my Tenkara days have been postponed for a bit. I have been tagging creaks in the meantime on Google maps for when I can start exploring.
I started getting back into fishing right when covid started. I started with bass and crappie. I started on trout last spring. Tried my luck with fly fishing and failed miserably but haven't given up. You keep me inspired along with the tuber "Bass'N'Trout" who is mainly a spinning reel genius with trout. Finding the spots and learning the lures is where I am now. Hoping to become proficient in Tenkara someday soon though. Like you, I prefer places less traveled or fished.

Even with my father in law 50 feet away catching fatties. I'm still a novice with trout. But trust me, I'm still getting out there even with no bites. Hey man, I live in West Texas. Nothing around here but panfish to catch on my flies, (still a ton of fun) but I try to get away to colder water as much as I can. I hit northern New Mexico quite a bit. I'm very new to fishing. A little over a year ago I had a friend introduce me to Tenkara. We had two days of bad fishing the Rio Grande and other smaller streams in NM where I caught my first fish. (Brown Trout.) It was such a blast that I've gone way deep into this hobby! Hi Tristan! I enjoy watching every one of your videos as you get them posted. I live in Roseville, CA - just about an hour and 30 minutes from Lake Tahoe so I have all the rivers and streams in the Tahoe Sierra to choose from. There are many that are just perfect for Tenkara. I live at about 250 feet of elevation but I can be up at 6000 or 7000 feet in about an hour and 15 minutes of driving. I fish Tenkara about 30 times a year but do some traditional fly fishing as well. My first rod was the Luong Tam Tanuki Ninja rod and I still use it. All 'round great rod. I just caught a 36" Lahontan Cutthroat BEAST in Pyramid lake on an 8 weight rod, throwing large articulated streamers. Landing it was an epic battle. Released it of course. The following week I was catching beautiful 8 to 10 inch brook trout on the West Carson River at high elevations. So many adventures, so little time. I'm on the Board of Directors of a large fly fishing club (350 members) in Granite Bay and we have a group of members that mostly fish Tenkara - there are about 25 of us. We've had Luong Tam (Tanuki Tenkara) as a speaker at our monthly meeting a couple of times. Funny guy!

Good'eh tristen, im Joe from ottawa ontario. Here we have some big water rivers and the great lakes that give us great oportunity for warmwarter species this far north, largemouth, smallmouth, bluegill, yellow perch, crappie, gar, channel cattfish, northern pike, walleye, musky, carp etc. However we have excellent fishing opporunity for native brook trout. Usually when fly fishing we target these these brookies im small streams or lakes, however when flyfishing we also target smallmouth, northern pike, carp, panfish and most recently rainbows. After many years in ontarios back country we finally found a trout creek with wild rainbows and native brook trout and caught a dozen between myself and my two brothers yesturday. Your videos are making us seriously consider buying a tenkara rod as this creek seems an ideal place to use it.

Always passing through Idaho to get home to Springville Utah where the Provo River is not far and world class. Stopped at a tributary of the Snake and marveled at the giant trout in such a small stream. Alas, fishing that creek was closed for one more week. I usually find rainbows in almost every stream here in western WA and the occasional cutthroat and brooke trout. Haven't landed a bull trout yet but I know we've got em. Would like to get a dolly or steelhead too. I know you were planning on heading this way soon but hit me up if you want a pristine lake with two sub species of cutthroat (coastal and yellowstone). I know an absolutely stunning spot way off the beaten path that most people wont bother going to because you have to take an old bumpy one-lane road for almost 20 miles to get there.

Hi Tristan. I'm Pete watching from Yorkshire, England. Really envious of the fantastic waters you have over there. I started with tenkara a couple of years ago but haven't fully committed, still fish rod and line. I have found it great for contact nymphing though. Landed an 18 inch brown on tenkara tackle earlier this year in fast water so that gave me some confidence. Great channel, best on here. keep making me envious for a good while longer

Las Vegas. I can't get out there any longer but I started fishing at 3 years old. I've fished all of California and last fished here at Lake Mead. I've caught trout, stripper, cat, blue and yellow gill. Great video, thanks Tristan 😊

    Hi Tristan,
I love your videos! I always watch until the end of every one. I am in Arizona near Sedona. I fish for rainbows, browns, brooks, and of course the native Gila and Apache trout. I also have 3 creeks near me that have coosa bass (redeye bass). They are super fun to catch with tenkara rods! Keep the great content coming... I appreciate you!

Like Your videos alot. I've never fished tenkara, but I do fish ultra light equipment on the truckee and out at Pyramid lake. My favorite combo for Pyramid is an ultra light St Croix rod in 7 ft. length With a Pflueger reel with 6 lb. Spiderwire mono, I can really feel the light hitters and the fight is indescribable! I release everything I can. My biggest is a 17.8 lb. Lahontan cut throat that I caught with a white popcorn beatle. That was quite the fight and took a long time to revive and release. Anyway keep fishing and videoing as you have made winter in Nevada a little easier to take

Very recently the upper reaches of the Severn and Wye rivers for trout and grayling. My favourite fishing is in small streams, it was how I started as a kid.

Coos Bay, OR; Out here the coastal creeks are so very brushy that they are really hard to fish so most of our fishing is on the lakes and in the bays and ocean. Although I do know of a great place up in the headwaters of the Umpqua where there are pretty big browns that I would like to try the Tenkara style of fishing on. I love those high mountain / desert streams and creeks. Love your vids and look forward to being a little jealous each time I watch one. Jerry 😎👍

I’m from Moscow, Russia. Wild trout is almost impossible to find in the region, but I heard it exists in one creek. So, I have to fish for different carp like species.
Last year I went to the Kola peninsula where I caught trout, grayling and even pink salmon on a tenkara rod. Also had great success in Bulgaria.
Next week I’m going to the Caucasus mountains for hiking and fishing.
I bought an SUV and equipped it for sleeping after watching your main channel (I’m actually camping in it right now), but I have to rent a house because my wife and cat are going with me :(
