I danced with my grandmother at my first wedding, because she taught me to be a simple man. I still tear up every time I hear or play this tune. She passed in '21. Grandpa may have taught me to be a businessman, but Grandma taught me to be human.
Ronnie and Allen wrote this after Allen's grandmother passed. Ronnie, Allen and Gary were all childhood friends, I'm sure they knew each other's families well.
It was Ronnie's grandmother who passed away. He and Gary met up at Ronnie's and talked about Gary's mother's advice to him and Ronnie's grandmother to him. After Gary left, Ronnie wrote it in the shower. Ronnie never wrote lyrics down, he remembered them in his head.
Shinedown did an incredible cover of this song. Apparently the drummer or guitarist from Shinedown had a child with the daughter of Ronnie Van Zant, the singer from Skynyrd.
LS is the original writers and performers of this song. The 1st album 1973 was when it was released. Can't miss with LS all their music is bangers. Thanks for the reaction 😊
Yeah shinedown did the best remake, I've only seen the vid. Love acoustic, is the vid acoustic or heavier, would love to see the other version either way.
There are musical artists in every generation but the 70's were special. They wrote, played and sung their own music without auto tune. One great band after another.
It is a really good song, and all that a mother would want for her son. I don't care if he isn't famous or important or even rich, I just hope that he is satisfied with his life. Beautifully written and heartfelt.
I listened to this song during my labor with my son, and when he was about 8 months old, I played him song and he started rocking back-and-forth and as if he had heard it before and now he is a grown man with children of his own and we still share that Musical bond with this song.
Southern Rock was the truest music out there. Love me some Skynard. You should check out the other VanZant brother who also has a band called 38 Special. They are southern rock. Grew up listening to both groups.
My friend was killed in a car accident when he was 19 and this was the song they played during the funeral 😪 It hits hard 💔 Shinedown does this you are correct. Great reaction and Peace out Cliff ☮️ ✌️ 🙏
the producer did not want to cut this track , ronnie escorted him to his limo , told him he would call him they were done . al kooper later played on the final mix.
Yes Lynard skynard were the originals of this song fun fact there are two sets of members the younger brother took the Reigns of lead singer after losing his brother in a plane crash alone with a few other members
RVZ was a lyrical genius. He went barefoot on stage, never wrote down the lyrics to His songs & ran this band with his fist. Literally. They practiced 12 hours days in the Florida swamp in a non air- conditioned cabin. Told family members & others his limit was 30 he died at 29 in the crash. LS was unique they had 3 lead guitarsts all could & played rythem of chorse. They were the band that legend stories on the road were told but all true. They whop ure ass no problem. All were Great musicans.
What a way to start my morning, my week! All time fav song! Copied by many but never better than by Lynyrd Skynyrd also one of my fav band! Great message!
Shinedown’s guitarist was married to Ronnie Van Zant’s daughter, Melody, when they recorded this. Ronnie’s granddaughter, Melody, and a photo of Ronnie are in the video.
3 members of the band had a hard line PE teacher who didn't like loud music or long hair which was also against school policy. His name was Leanord Skinner and so they named the band after him as a joke. The rest is history.
It makes my day to see people really recognize the genius in Lynyrd Skynyrd and it was everyone of those guys and All the Credit to The Lady's, The Honkettes as Ronnie called em and this band is my absolute favorite band ever ! And believe it or not very few people in this generation of younger people finds or recognizes the true genius and all the songs that this band does . If you'll pay attention at all to 99% of their songs, everyone of em speaks volumes about whatever the song is written about . That Smell was wrote about Gary Rossington wrecking a car and breaking his arm and some of the lyrics are, They call you prince charming, cant speak a word when you're full of the ludes, Quaaludes...pills or The Needle and The Spoon , dont mess with the needle and the spoon , take trip to the moon , gonna take you away ! Mr. Saturday Night Special gotta barrel that's blue and cold, aint good for nothing, but put a man 6 feet in a hole . Now they wasn't antiguns and thaya fact and far as I know the majority of em were very conservative but their songs always got the point across. Anyways Thank you for giving credit where it's really due and I just subbed to your channel
You will hear this song somewhere in Florida every weekend being played by a live band in bars......and I'm sure other places 😂. It's a rock band staple
I tear up when I hear this song. I have played it for my son when he is going through "life stuff". He's a plumber and has 3 kids now, and is a simple man raising his kids the same way.
Shinedown's guitarist is married to Melody Van Zant, Ronnie's daughter, there's your connection. My son's ring tone when I call, now 44y young. He was a fussy baby, so I'd sing this to him. 😊 Edit: pronounced LINerd, the teacher was Leonard. 👊🏾
Iconic Southern Rock band. Had many of them not died in that plane crash they'd have a lot more songs. Yes it's the original band. Shine down was a cover.
This was the Mother/Son dance song for my son's wedding. It's a very long song, but the DJ had a shortened version in his library. It's a song about a Mother's advice to her son to live life simple and slow. LS was one of my favorite bands as a teen in the 70's.
Two of my favorite songs by Lynyrd Skynyrd are both cover songs. T for Texas and Call me the breeze. Jimmy Rodgers wrote T for Texas in 1928. And Call me the Breeze by J.J. Cale.
I think we have said before 60s 70s 80s even some90s we had amazing music when we go Where's the music today we're looking down from apretty high point
Just make sure you stay with the first five albums and their Live album One more from the Road. The band after the Oct 20 1977 plane crash AYNT SKYNYRD.
So glad you have a rock channel... as for classic covers vs originals... Bob Dylan wrote All along the watchtower. Jimmy Hendricks did the best cover. Might be worth your time to react to both. Same song but Way different sounds and styles...
You are listening to the best Rockin Roll band in history They we’re only on the big stage for five years and no doubt had some of the best songs in history Ronnie was one of the best song writers to ever write music and doesn’t get the credit he deserves If Ronnie had not passed away in the plane crash This band would have went down in history as the greatest rock band ever In my opinion they still are How many people can think of a band that doesn’t have a bad song I can’t think of but one and that’s is Skynyrd You can make a list of songs from all of their albums and go down the list and pick any one song and you will either like it or be able to relate to it in some way RPI to the greatest band in history
Tuesday's Gone is another Skynyrd Classic .
This song will never die because the message is timeless....
I danced with my grandmother at my first wedding, because she taught me to be a simple man.
I still tear up every time I hear or play this tune. She passed in '21. Grandpa may have taught me to be a businessman, but Grandma taught me to be human.
A fool speaks, a wise man listens.
The best Southern Rock group that ever lived.
BIG thumbs up!
@@jamesmontgomery9523 he said if they weren't good enough to remember then they were not good enough to be a song.

I'm just digging that you can vibe on this. I don't know how anyone couldn't
Shinedown did an incredible cover of this song. Apparently the drummer or guitarist from Shinedown had a child with the daughter of Ronnie Van Zant, the singer from Skynyrd.
Plus, Brent Smith knows Ronnie's widow well. He actually asked her if it was ok to cover the tune as a tribute to Skynyrd.
I didn’t know the family connection, that’s wicked
Yes ! Beautiful Cover !
I definitely vote for Shinedown’s cover!!
It doesn't compare to Skynyrd's version, though.
LS is the original writers and performers of this song. The 1st album 1973 was when it was released. Can't miss with LS all their music is bangers. Thanks for the reaction 😊
The ballad of Curtis Lowe should be next 😊
How can you not love this song? Doesn't matter what genre of music you're used to, if you don't like this song you have no soul.
Love love love Skynyrd. Such great musicians. Crushing after the accident for so many of us.
You likely heard Shinedown do this song. Their acoustic cover is simply amazing.
Yeah shinedown did the best remake, I've only seen the vid. Love acoustic, is the vid acoustic or heavier, would love to see the other version either way.
Not a fan of the Shinedown version. It pales in comparison to Skynyrd's original.
Played at my son's funeral, he would sing it to me all the time. Still makes me cry.
💝
Peace ✌️🕊️ be with you
🙏
Very Sorry for your loss.
There are musical artists in every generation but the 70's were special. They wrote, played and sung their own music without auto tune. One great band after another.
One of the greatest songs that has ever been written. PERIOD!!!
If you say so Period!!! lol . I am glad you got that out of your system lol.
I agree!
It is a really good song, and all that a mother would want for her son. I don't care if he isn't famous or important or even rich, I just hope that he is satisfied with his life. Beautifully written and heartfelt.
Simple Man, Stairway to Heaven, Home Sweet Home, Momma Im Coming Home and many others will stand the test of time. 70/80's music is the BEST !!!!!
I listened to this song during my labor with my son, and when he was about 8 months old, I played him song and he started rocking back-and-forth and as if he had heard it before and now he is a grown man with children of his own and we still share that Musical bond with this song.

Thank you kindly for another reaction to Lynyrd Skynyrd.
Wholesome messages to our boys. Yes, we have lost our ways.
Your reaction is common, which shows the need for our sons to hear these messages.
My friend was killed in a car accident when he was 19 and this was the song they played during the funeral 😪 It hits hard 💔 Shinedown does this you are correct. Great reaction and Peace out Cliff ☮️ ✌️ 🙏
These guys left us some jewels. RIP.
the producer did not want to cut this track , ronnie escorted him to his limo , told him he would call him they were done . al kooper later played on the final mix.
The story behind this band is so heart felt yet tragic 😔
Yes Lynard skynard were the originals of this song fun fact there are two sets of members the younger brother took the Reigns of lead singer after losing his brother in a plane crash alone with a few other members
OH, MAN!!! ANOTHER one that TEARS ME UP: EVERY TIME!!! SO, SO LOVE THIS SONG!! THANKS, CLIFF!!
🌸 when my son was born a dedicated this song to him and I've sung it to him many times and he still listens to it at age 29 🤍
❤
Close your eyes, open your ears, sit back and enjoy the harmonies
“Mr. Banker” may bring you to tears. It’s a Skynyrd tune.
Yes, good catch. It was Shinedown amd they did a damn good rendition of this!
Lynyrd Skynyrd and Shinedown are both from Jacksonville Florida
RVZ was a lyrical genius. He went barefoot on stage, never wrote down the lyrics to His songs & ran this band with his fist. Literally. Call me the Beeze awesome song.
This song would work as a hip hop sample really well
3 members of the band had a hard line PE teacher who didn't like loud music or long hair which was also against school policy. His name was Leanord Skinner and so they named the band after him as a joke. The rest is history.
I an 70 years old and never heard this song first for me and it is great . I think I was locked up when this came out
Sang this to my son when he was born, then danced to it at his wedding❤

Thanks for all the great music, I appreciate all your hard work and heartfelt reviews os the songs.
Rock and Roll speaks to the soul and is a human creation which is why it can touch you so deeply.
My mothers and my song , always has been great reaction cliff ❤
My absolute favorite song by these guys. The lyrics, message & it resonates deeply the older I get. It's more spiritual now.
They made twin guitar leads sound amazing.
You will hear this song somewhere in Florida every weekend being played by a live band in bars......and I'm sure other places 😂. It's a rock band staple
It’s amazing to see them live. LOVE this song.
I tear up when I hear this song. I have played it for my son when he is going through "life stuff". He's a plumber and has 3 kids now, and is a simple man raising his kids the same way.
Best song ever. Nobody has ever covered this but I have to admit that Shinedown covered this and they done it justice.
Check out their song Gimmee Three Steps
Great reaction! The lyrics of this song can be the foundation of a meaningful and fulfilled life. Momma was a very wise person!
Shinedown's guitarist is married to Melody Van Zant, Ronnie's daughter, there's your connection.
My son's ring tone when I call, now 44y young.
He was a fussy baby, so I'd sing this to him. 😊
Edit: pronounced LINerd, the teacher was Leonard. 👊🏾
My generation was so spoiled musically and we didn't know how much. We do now.
Skynyrd was a big influence on all kinds of music groups and artists of different genres of music one of them is Kid Rock
The opening riff was used for a "Bush Beer" commercial
I love that you really listen to the music mostly without the distraction of videos that often have nothing to do with the song
Great song, I can't wait for more.
If I remember correctly this is advance Gary’s grandmother gave Gary and Ronnie when they started out in the music business and they put it to music
Yes - they were the "original" group to record this song in 1973....
Iconic Southern Rock band. Had many of them not died in that plane crash they'd have a lot more songs. Yes it's the original band. Shine down was a cover.
Tuesdays Gone next
Yes, this is Lynyrd Skynyrds song. They wrote it.
🌸 .... and I still cry every time I hear this song.
Ballad of Curtis Lowe. Practices, practices, practices, practices.
Ed King, standing on the end by the street, got a lightning bolt on top of his head 😮
Shinedown's cover of this was amazing.
It resonates
This was the Mother/Son dance song for my son's wedding. It's a very long song, but the DJ had a shortened version in his library. It's a song about a Mother's advice to her son to live life simple and slow. LS was one of my favorite bands as a teen in the 70's.
You really need to hear Shinedown's cover of Simple Man. Your ears will not be disappointed.
Gary was one of best slide guitarist of all time.
This is such great song. Really sad singer Ronnie Van Zant died in plane crash 3 days after album release 😢❤
Great Reaction!
I’ve dedicated & sang this to MY only Son for 31 Years🥰♥️
Two of my favorite songs by Lynyrd Skynyrd are both cover songs. T for Texas and Call me the breeze. Jimmy Rodgers wrote T for Texas in 1928. And Call me the Breeze by J.J. Cale.
