Looking at the original katakana (バトル・バルバス), I have a feeling the st. 2 boss is more properly Battle Barbas. Barbas is an alternate name of Marbas, a leonine demon from the Ars Goetia. (We have Belphegor, we have the fallen angel Gaderel, we have a popcorn enemy named Caim…and somehow one named Olog-Hai…)
EDIT: While we're at it, Gorjanoi MAY be Croatian (or similar Slavic) for "he of the mountains", in the same way Vodyanoi means "he of the waters". May. Depends on whether Croatian HAS the English j phoneme--the katakana are ゴルジャノイ (go-ru-ji(ya)-no-i), not ゴルヤノイ (go-ru-ya-no-i).
Always love when these games get creative with their boss fights instead of just having you fight the same big flying ship motif over and over again
Well, Gaderel's namesake IS a fallen angel. And not just any fallen angel--he's one of the five main leaders of the rogue Grigori under Shemhazai and Azazel (and depending on how 1 Enoch actually went, ultimately Satanael and Ramiel), alongside Yekon, Kasbeel, Penemue, and Kasdeya. So he's fathered quite a few Nephilim. That final phase might even be meant to reflect the Tanakh's depiction of an ophan, just in a suitably demonic fashion.
YESSS I was wondering when you'd do this one! The TurboGrafx Star Soldiers are so cooooooollllll
Honestly some of the best games on the platform. Soldier Blade is honestly one of my favorites.
hehehhh, i like the sleepy lady going "aliens approaching..."
For a game that came out in '91 there are some really creative fights. The small details are great too, such as boss 3-1 with the drones moving in and out of the water or the final boss where it slowly becomes more and more fleshy.
Boss 1-2 is kinda funny though. Half the fight is two mech bros doing some stretching while the player bullies them.
I can't help but feel as if you were a bit frustrated during the Rafflesia fight, Shadowserg.
Stupid flower keeps closing up. >:L
At least the lulls let them play around.
The Belphegor Twin fight, though, looks a bit nerve-wracking from here…
I was missing creepy bosses so much, thanks for it Shadowserg ♥
I will never get over the fact the enemy homing rockets look like corn cobs...
Game: ALIEN...APPROACHING.
Shadowserg: FREEDOM NEVER SLEEPS!!!
lol
Cool game master !
Does that ship shoot... swords? Interesting aesthetic choice...
Wow, did the composer, like, charge by the measure or something? Haha
